Hi TL,
Today I was finally promoted to silver league! Huzzah! Thanks to everyone who's helped me thus far - I've still got a long way to go .
I started out in 17th place in my division, then lost a few games and am now hovering around 23rd. A couple games into silver, I was bunker rushed with a proxy barracks in the corner of my base on Lost Temple. What a lovely welcome!
Another interesting game took place on Steppes of War where I was handily defeated by a precocious protoss named Crimson. After reviewing the replay, my friend Kaiz hypothesized that Crimson was actually a smurf account because his mechanics were too good to be silver (or gold, even). What do you all think?
Peanut vs. Crimson replay
Anyway, I'm still going 3 rax MMM against protoss and zerg, with slight variations vs. terran (2 rax 1 fact if opponent is going 3 rax, etc.).
Day: Tuesday, Nov 16th Wins/Total: 8/14 Starting Rank: 1 (Bronze) Ending Rank: 23 (Silver) Highest Rank: 17 (Silver) Lowest Rank: 24 (Bronze)
Wins/total matchups (as Terran) vs.: Zerg: 1/2 Protoss: 4/6 Terran: 3/6
Bronze League Summary Total 1v1 games: 182 Total Wins: 99 (54% win rate)
Wins/total matchups (as Terran) [only data for last 116 games, so ratios are inflated] vs.: Zerg: 21/34 (62%) Protoss: 23/39 (63%) Terran: 27/43 (60%)
This does prove my hunch that TvT is my weakest matchup. I'm working on it, though.
Ok, I've been on battlenet for almost 12 hours today and need to hit the hay. Good night all!
Shoutout to Temporal and also Kaiz.

Its good to see you're improving and keeping at it. GL

Niiice... great job getting to Silver... I was wondering how long you could stay at the top of Bronze for ;P
|
Congrats
Edit: P.S. I looked at the replay, don't think Crimson was THAT good... I know the feeling, though, but looking at it afterward I think you just got slightly out-tech'd each battle. He got a good force field off for the very first battle, and zealot legs in moments later to polish off your army, and then his army was bigger each time. You guys had about even macro. If you had expanded when you attacked, and then bunkered up when you lost the battle, you'd have been on even footing later.
Not bad at all, though! I would have guessed you were gold

It must suck to put forth this much effort and only get such minimal gains... Not bad-mouthing, just god I hadn't played Starcraft in like 10 years but got sc2 and played campaign went into solo 1v1s ladder straight away (bad decision) got plat and then diamond and havent looked back. Just something I've been mulling over, that TL's Bronze and SIlver league players are still doing poorly even though they put this much effort into improving. I wish I knew why it was this way. They watch streams and replays and theorycraft (lol we all know this is how you improve) on the site yet barely manage to improve on ladder. Anyways keep trying if that's what's fun to you, like I said not raining on your parade just something I've been curious about.

Awesome job!
I've been hovering at 1st in my Gold Division. Still waiting to be promoted. :/

Grats on reaching Silver League!
As for the game vs. Crimson, I watched it and would suggest that Crimson is around gold level.

I wonder about this myself sometimes too. I wonder if it's just a mindset thing. I didn't play much BW competitively, I found out about iccup and teamliquid like 2 years ago and played a bit, never got to D+ even on iccup cuz I just didn't play many games. But in Beta of SC2 I was instantly placed into diamond after like 20 games in plat and it's been the same in release. I watch streams when I can, I use to watch day 9 for like a month but that's it, it was entertaining but I didn't learn anything. I think what I learned from the most was watching OSL/MSL and Proleague and got general ideas of what I should be doing. I've played like 175 games 1v1 on ladder in SC2 and I seem to do pretty well.
So considering I don't watch many games and play very much I think it has to do with people's natural talent with the game and natural understanding on what types of things should be happening. The only thing I think i've improved on since beta of SC2 has been my APM I guess... I went from about 70APM to 120APM.
I think in the end if Peanut keeps playing like she is and practicing a lot she will be a better player than I am. One problem with starting out in Bronze league is you deal with bronze league strategies which are way different than high level ones, so everytime you improve you are dealing with different players that use different strategies so you're constantly having to learn new things. Where as at Diamond players are usually pretty predictable in what they do.
*EDIT*
Ok just watched the replay. I don't think he was too much better than you Peanut, Maybe gold level. Your APM was pretty even with his the whole game, macro about the same, he just expanded sooner and caught your army offguard when you had it sitting below his natural. There's a few small things you can do to improve from what I saw in that game, stay on top of building SCVs and Supply depots! Those are probably 2 of the most important things in SC! You could have built an expansion a lot sooner and had more units to attack/defend with if you stayed on top of those 2 things. You were building army fairly consistently so that is good. You got upgrades nice and fast and applied some good pressure early on. I think if you just keep on top of that supply depot/scv production and work on the macro a bit you'll dominate silver

There is a pretty big learning curve in SC2. The basics of understanding advantages/disadvantages when in games is probably something a lot of people don't quite understanding. I don't think its awkward or strange at all how some people are still trying to make their way up to gold or plat.

Dun worry bout proxy rushes, when I was n.1 platinum I lost to a proxy hatch -.- it just happens.

But seriously grats Peanut, we're all glad your work is paying off. Let's get some practice in!!!

Congrats on the silver, Peanut! But I also have to comment on this:

Really?
What a terrible post. If you're really curious about this, you should make a thread with some actual content. Maybe include some reps showcasing your god-given talent. Maybe a log of the other skills in your life you've picked up effortlessly. You should do that. What you shouldn't do is take a shit in Peanut's thread. I mean fuck:
It must suck to put forth this much effort and only get such minimal gains... Not bad-mouthing, just god
Really?
I'm going to laugh when, after a few more months of "such minimal gains," Peanut ruins your shit in SC2.

This may sound like a dumb question, but how do you check your win percentage for different match ups?

You keep track of every game you play on a notepad and then at the end of the day calculate how many of those you won over how many you lost
That's the simplest way..... although I believe there is a program out there that organizes your replays and gives you stats from the replays. So as long as you save all of your replays into a specific folder you can have the program look at that folder and say "Daozzt has a 90000% winrate vs Z"
|
Well you get the most practise in TvT so thats good since it's your worst MU. How much do you play vs friends? Feels like I improve ALOT more when I do that.
|
Congrats! Keep on climbing.

Congratulations there, you got a lot of work ahead of you to get faster, play faster, play smarter, macro better, scout better, react better to get to the top. It's a work in progress but your dedication shows with each rank up and each promotion.
