I don't know what's going on

Maybe 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 and FFA require less skill but I'm a pretty darn good team player but when it comes to 1v1, I'm just horrible.

Is it that 1v1 is more difficult or am I just more set with team based games.

I mean, I know when to help, when to attack, when to take risks or expand. Like my observation is good too..

But when it comes to 1v1, I feel so... alone.. and I make dumb risks, don't know how to spy on the enemy in 1v1, it's just so weird.

The functions for 1v1 and 2v2 in my opinion feel so different.

I'm 1400 or above Diamond in 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4

But for 1v1..? lol Silver.

I play with my silver (1v1) friends and hit diamond in team games. I'm usually the one calling the broader shots such as overall troop movement -- so I know what you mean.

The player skill is noticeably lower in team games, and the games themselves largely dissolve into mass T1 being thrown at each other. There are some "good games" but by and large they're pretty loosie goosie. The reaper change actually is really helpful for 2v2 as 7rax6pool or whatever TZ did was just horrid to put up with.

Maybe that's because 1v1 consists of more mechanically demanding gameplay, while team games allow plenty of leeway to do silly things and make mistakes.

thats truee

i can totally agree with just massing up T1 units and throwing them in a big fight without much care for the result as long as i can rely on my ally to cover me while i do a backdoor or expo

its because 1v1 is a strategy game in team games whoever attack first wins

2v2 is easier because of 2x defenders advantage (ie reinforcement rate) imo. This of course unless both enemies are protoss with proxy pylons.

I'm the opposite I'm half decent 1v1 at 1400 but in team games I never really keep up with what's happening to my allies.

its funny cause i find 2v2 to be much harder to play. you have to account for two opponents instead of one and must rely on your team mate. communication plays a vital role, while in 1v1 you only have to communicate with your self.
its not hard to get into diamond in either 1v1 or 2v2, but i somehow just dont "understand" 2v2 at all. there are much more strategies that can be used with increasing number of players and races per team.
team games should be less competetive because their respective ladders are less stacked and less active than for 1v1. maybe i just havent played enough 2v2.

when i don't feel sharp, i sometimes go into team games to practice my fundamentals, cause i don't care about my score in team games. i just have some fun with my friends. plus it's good to be able to blame your friends for losing. but my team play is absolutely terrible, i guess it's a diff style from 1v1 that i haven't caught on to, but i feel that zerg is really weak .

Idk, most of the time i like laddering over team games, cause you have to rely on your teammates way too much (most of mine are terrible, no sense of teamwork), and it's so much all in rush cheese or turtle and mass tier 3 unit (maybe it's not so different from ladder, lol). the problem is in team games you can gang up on people, while 1v1 i can actually defend the fast void ray into dt after void fails (if a toss is losing, get detection asap!).

1v1 is def more difficult. a friend of a friend boasts about being diamond league in his team games, but thats mostly cause he was relying on other players to defend him while he teched to dt. 1v1: no bullying, no relying on others, that's why i like it. Oh, i also hate team games cause a lot of the maps are RETARDED for zerg. tons have naturals blocked off. one 3 player map has 2 sideby side naturals with rocks blocking, so i just say fuck it and put a hatch right in the middle, lol.

How's the weather down there?

Team games aren't easier, their just different. In a team game having good mechanics is is just as adventitious as in 1v1s. But things like army positioning and attacking is different not harder not easier.

The skill distribution of players in the leagues is different though. Its easier to get diamond in team leagues. theirs a lot of "1 trick ponies" in the team ladders ie 1 cheese every game.

And to answer the question, I'm ok at things other than 1v1s. Lately Ive been working on a new style (for me) of Zerg for my 2v2s and really getting raped. But i feel like I'm getting close to something good and viable that's not ling/bane.

I agree with enzym in that I feel team games are harder. In 1v1, I only have to keep track of one opponent, and it's possible to maintain the entire game-state in my head. I know what I've got, what he's got, and what he doesn't have based on my scouting info. In team games, it's practically impossible for me to keep tabs on multiple opponents, and I always feel like I'm playing a 1vX against their army compositions.
Of course, you only live one life, and you make all your mistakes, and learn what not to do, and that’s the end of you.

I would assume the level of play in team games is just lower. Most of the good players don't play 2v2/etc and when they do, they often do not take it (as) seriously.

I quite enjoy 2v2, it's less stressful when you only have half the responsibility to win. Plus you can always blame the other guy when you lose. <3

2v2 is very dynamic, fast paced and fun.

I'm 1800 diamond in 1v1, and whenever my practice partners and me que up for team games its always a blast.

That said, I do find 1v1 significantly more difficult. You can't ever rely on a teammate to carry you, for example.

In Brood War, I played 4v4 Micro Fastest. It's like fastest map possible, except with only three vespene geysers in your base. Also, each of the eight choke points are one pylon wide. With siege tanks, you can reach other people's bases from inside your own. Terran is very strong on this map. It's often a fight very early on, because everyone wants control of the middle, so Protosses will do 5 pylon 6 forge 7 double cannon, and Zergs mostly 5 pool.

Skill required is actually not that much. Most people that play it don't have very good mechanics, but it still makes for very interesting games.

The team games are generally saturated with people who can't take the heat. 1v1 is scary, if you lose it's your fault, in team games it's never your "fault"*.

*It actually like almost never is since everyone is so bad and or just goofing around :D

I find 1v1 way easier cause it's more logical and also easier to scout/keep track of things.

Also I don't know how to play zerg in teams cause the timings are totally different and I don't even know what my role is other than mass speedling/muta to control. But my teams always lose to big frontal attacks when I'm zerg. Protoss though my style seems to work really well though, which is just to get tons of warpgates, put pylons everywhere and aggressively take bases and cannon the shit out of them everywhere.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, your opinion man

the largest problem with 2v2s is the shared base bullshit. it basically becomes a larger 1v1 one base fest. i remember 2v2s on python back in the bw days was intense back and forth matchup. map control was fuckin vital otherwise one of you could get pincered and killed.

lol you believe that?
hold off the first attack in a 2v2 and you have a massive advantage
and it's not like 1v1 doesn't have cheese of it's own....
anyway i prefer team games , less stressful

Yeah you know, because you and him are probably the only two people in the world that share that perspective *rolleyes*

I think anybody that was at least C- 2:2 on ICCup knows this to be true. And probably the solid D/D+ players too... and probably anybody with half a brain that has more than zero experience with non shared base maps...

Agreed. The shared base 2v2 maps are terrible. Even those that aren't shared base suffer from having one choke access both bases - I'd much rather play on, say, LT, than something like Twilight Fortress -.-
