Girlfriend here, I just wanted to make a distinction that many players here are seeming not to realise

Toned, tanned, tall sports players are one of the biggest reasons us girls watch sports. Seeing a football player drenched in sweat is pretty hot

However, seeing a pasty pale nerd that obviously does no work on his figure is pretty unappealing. Atleast in korea they work out every day :D. Its just a suggestion for your cause here, I think it would be really cool to see starcraft on the big screen! you can call me superficial, but thats just the simple fact of american media

I don't think we are on the same wavelength.

First of all athletes like football players are toned because they need to workout to be competitive in their sport. Gamers don't need to work out and in fact it could possibly have negative effects (incontrol can possibly clarify). Being tanned is irrelevant... if you think gamers should be going to tanning salons or something then I don't really have much to say. As for tall... what in god's name are you suggesting right now? Why did you even think mentioning that was at all relevant?

How are the gamers you see when observing games different from the athletes you see during a sporting event, in terms of pastiness? I'm just not getting what your complain is. This is what I've taken out of this thread and your post:

"I wish gamers were physically sexier." What do you actually PROPOSE? At the last event I went with I stayed at the same place as one of the players and I know for a fact he showered before he went to bed and AGAIN when he got up. What else should have have done? Hit the gym for 30 minutes every morning? I'm not saying that's a terrible suggestion but most of the best gamers don't fit that profile. There is a fundamental difference between football and computer games unfortunately.

I guess superficial people who watch a game because the contestants are sexy and not because of the content I can live without (not profiling girls since guys do this too re girl's volleyball). But yeah it's a bit unfortunate.

massively agree with that last paragraph. While certain levels of hygiene are naturally expected this isn't a god damn beauty contest. People play because of their ability, and they play alot. I can't imagine they have too much time to do superficial bullshit to please people that base their lives off stereotypes. I mean at least that person admits it but it's terribly sad.
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
Oh goodness me, FOX tv where do you get your sight? Can't you keep track, the puck is black. That's why the ice is white.

Ah yes, White-Ra, the pimply sweaty nerd. Clearly the worst offender and a prime example of people making progamers look bad!

Have you ever seen Jaedong sweating like a motherfucker during an intense match?

...the appearance of many progamers in NA/EU right now are quite literally hindering the penetration of Esports in the west. What do you guys think?

I think not.

Also, tbh I don't care if SC2 doesn't make mainstream because the players aren't "attractive enough". Why do I wan't fanboys/girls watching only because they think the players are hot, not because the game is fundamentally entertaining to them?

Don't worry Huk. We all love your sweat.

Women used to covet the sweat of gladiators as an aphrodisiac...and I think we all know sc pro-gamers are the modern day equivalent of those guys. We just need to harvest their sweat at LANs and sell tiny bottles of the stuff for extortionate prices under the Liquid brand.

Frankly, I'm surprised it hasn't been done yet in Korea. Who wouldn't want to rub a little bit of Boxer sweat into their soul?

To the OP:

Firstly, you do realize you are playing a competitive video game right? I don't think I need to explain that.

But secondly and mainly...who cares? I sweat a lot in general; that's just how some people are and there is not much you can do about it. If you don't like dealing with sweaty people then do something like swimming instead of sc.

I think it adds legitimacy to the eSport, requiring such demanding physical speed/dexterity and mental concentration that you perspire! It would make it look like more of a 'joke sport' if they just looked super relaxed and refreshed after an intense 40min+ game.

Please, computer games are one of the few places left where it doesn't matter that you look good - you can be just as successful if you look like a complete nerd - please don't take this away from the unattractive people. I agree that if an individual wants to look nice for the camera then they should reap the rewards of additional attention and sponsorship or interest, but you can't force it on people. Most of the events are online where you can't even see the players...

Athletic sports rarely make women more attractive (there are some exceptions) and they get popular on strong support from their niche fans, love of the game, or being the best at what they do.
