I don't really want to disagree with your counterexample but...

that picture was generated by a television show crew so I'm sure he was 'touched up' more than players at sc2 events are :p

It's pretty funny you'd say that when I've seen progamers in Korea dripped in sweat more than once. Jaedong's sweat dropping on his shirt - it's actually pretty awesome. Intense mental activities make people sweat. I mean, have you ever taken a 4 hour math exam? People get sweaty and the room is warm as hell. Also, playing a 30+ minutes game at 200+ APM is actually pretty exhausting.

A good number of progamers are pretty alright and the pimply nerds certainly aren't a majority. Taking MLG as an example, I couldn't name 3 pimply nerds.

Hell, Huk and Kiwi are pretty handsome! I've been wearing my headphones on my hoodie (without success).

Im curious to see a picture of the thread creator, if he is talking about other people fitting that "stereotype".. Chances are, he does too.

Sweating is hard to avoid in a heavily taxing mental and physical game like SC.. Its really different than every other game. Of course its not as bad as a full-body sport, but the amount of energy needed to play at the level that the top players play at, their high APM and so much multitasking (mentally) is really draining. I wouldnt expect anyone whos not familiar with it themselves to understand.

I think it adds a bit of excitement tbh; if the players weren't all that bothered the matches would be boring

the only reason you don't see korean players as "pimply nerds" is because of the amount of makeup they cake on them before they go on air. and even then, half of them seem like their team could really use a proactiv sponsorship. and honestly they're pretty sweaty too, one of them (jaehoon) even has the nickname "sweattoss" because of how much he perspires.
so in summary i'm not really sure that you have a valid point

Atleast they look like they're putting some effort in to it. When QXC comes out on stage it doesn't even look like he's bothered shaving before he's set to appear in front of thousands of people.

I'm sorry. Are you seriously suggesting that an unshaven QXC with his badass bandana looks like a stereotypical sweaty pimply nerd? ROFL. He looks more like a stoner than anything. What's with the obsession of shaving anyway? MLG LANs aren't boot camps, a bank nor a place of business and even then it's a pretty retarded norm if it's kept neat enough.

Also, does your girlfriend find beefy although sweaty boxers appalling as well?

in their defence, maybe it was hot where they were?

i mean, when im really focused and doing something that requires a lot of attention; even if it's not like mad physical like pumping weights, i can still sweat if the room isn't well vented or w/e

We'll probably have to wait 10 or so years for this to be implemented.

Actually it was kinda chilly in the gaming section... but personally I was sweating a bunch just from anxiety/pressure/stress. Playing a game in such an intense environment is pretty mentally taxing.

Playing a really intense game can make you sweat. Not much can be done about that. If it happens to me, I can only imagine it happens to progamers even more because they are playing more intense games then I am. Add in the pressure of a LAN event for large sums of money and I really dont see how you could expect them not to sweat.

lol, this is such a dumb thing to say. unless you want people hired as sweat catchers who go and wipe peoples faces during games, you're gonna have to deal with it. people under intense stress are gonna be sweating mid game, it's a natural response. has nothing do do with personal hygiene. i don't see how it looks unprofessional, so if you want jacked super models coming in to play so you're girlfriend thinks video games are cool, i think you are wasting your time. they most likely won't think video games are cool no matter who's playing. and esports in the west are anything but hindered, there's been a huge explosion; big cash tourneys, youtube's been spammed to shit with starcraft videos, look at the TL community, it's huge. let's all be sweaty nerds together!
