Managed to get a hold of the new wow beta by the generosity of a friend of mine. It is rather amazing that they managed to up'ed the graphic despite the engine being rather old.

So far I am liking it a lot more than LK. I have always felt they tried to add too much into the game and the talent trees are very bloated. They made stormwind city a much better place to be in as well by adding an auction house right across from the bank: now even more convenient than lagforge.

Since I have been playing sc2 for almost 1/2 a year I am not too used to the keybinds =S... and to think I used to consider myself one of the top 5% =S.

I cannot figure out how to get to vashjir (boat event doesnt trigger), so I decided to start out at hyjal.

And there I found this quest...

Will update as I play it through!

Edit 1:
I am leveling this warrior up as prot (I am a tank specialist!). This is not my main, my main has 52k hp unbuffed... In cata tanks should have ~120k

This quest text annoys me:
Help us, warrior! The forest is aflame, and the wee animals can't find their way out. They can't fight for themselves, with their teeny-tiny little teeth and their soft furry paws! They're fluffy and sweet.
They have wet little noses!
If you don't save them, I don't want to even THINK about it.
<She slaps her palms over her eyes.>
I'm not thinking!

WEE ANIMALS! $^&*
When I go pick up the animals they scream "WAH!" as if I am butchering them

yea they made cataclysm greens better than 25 man icecrown drops or so i have been informed. Similar to how tbc made almost every piece of pre tbc gear useless outside of set bonuses.

but 47k hp? hmm i suspect he plays tank ;P

You had 4.3k hp as a Mage in Vanilla? That's an awful lot for a Mage back then, unless that's with buffs... PvP gear? I think my Warrior main tank had about that much unbuffed back in the MC days... :p

And yeah the Warrior in the SS is definitely tank spec judging by the action bar.

Tanks will probably have 100k+ health. They screwed up the damage and avoidance mechanics in WotLK hard, so the health increase is an attempt to balance it out.

No way I'd ever go near that shit game again though.

No question they'll clear 100k. I wouldn't be surprised to see 200k raid buffed before the next expansion if they keep scaling it up the way they have been. One of my friends who still plays has like 72k raid buffed now, and he's only in ICC10 gear I think. I would also expect to see players doing ~20k DPS as standard initially at 85. Rule of thumb so far seems to be DPS double twice every expansion: Once when leveling up and once for gear between intro and final. Tank HP is vaguely similar.

Ah that makes sense then, I tend to associate Vanilla mostly with my memories of the MC/BWL days more so.

I got beta last week also, but didn't really have that desire to start leveling. So i played a couple goblin quests.

Should check the whole azeroth. Seems like its pretty neat.

They did say that health pools for all classes will be a little closer together than they have been in the past, but I think it's pretty likely that tanks will have a minimum of 100k by the first raid encounter. Also, of course, they've changed itemization yet again so each piece of gear (even currently equipped, not just Cataclysm greens) will have somewhere around 1.5-2x Stamina on it. My mage went from 19k health to over 30k in the same gear after I copied him over.

He's a protection warrior fully specced, with double stam trinkets 47k is NOTHING for that level. My warrior I think was low for being 50k unbuffed before the beta since i quit shortly after icecrown and didn't get much gear.

No offense but having to pay for a mediocre labrat game is still as shitty as it was in 2004. my friend bought me an account and all I do is fishbot and play the auction house. Insecretly want a Goblin Warlock however.

I was a big PVEer and I find raids very taxing on my schedule.
I will probably only play cataclysm casually with my friends in 10 man raids.

HP geared mage in HWL could do it, but their damage would be terrible.

What? o.o I was around 3.8k in PvE gear @ 700~ damage/max hit/+12~ crit. In PvP gear, maybe 4.1. I guess FF ring/KT's wand and a few sidegrades would've put me at 4.1+. Still, not exactly standard. Then again, I was gearing for perfect PvE, so I wasn't going to have half of FF for a while, anyways.

One thing which amazes me is that blizzard successfully implemented a "streaming" solution to the game. I only have to download around 600mb of data to start playing (installer is still pretty big though). As I play the game data will be dynamically downloaded and the game will smoothen itself out over time.

Right now everything seem to work fine even though I only have 6gb/~12gb worth of data.

Did one quest where you are on a flying mount that can only "leap forward" by pressing a button, and the goal is to run into various enemies in a 3d airspace. Very hard to control, nevertheless fun. End reward is a bird pet. Fun quest like those are fun but isnt that great for the xp/hr rate.

The removal of damage shields (damage reflection when hit),imp thunderclap (+TC damage), and cleave no longer spammable causes me to have very weak aoe capabilities. Prot level might not be as viable as it is in wotlk.

Damn that's some crazy numbers to remember! All i remember is i had that AQ staff that gave so much health, and used some stamina pieces from the pvp gear on certain fights just to get 3 shotted instead of 2 shotted or whatever for example. Might've been 4.2k, but it was definetly above 4.1

ummm.... 4 man... myself, malfurion, cenarius, and some archdruid.... so yeah... a demigod, two archdruids, and a draenei.... all we did was banish him from hyjal back to the fireland.

They told me that I saved hyjal but all i got is a piece of shitty ilvl272 blue! (my main is in 284s)
He is supposed to be back later in another 10/25 man. "Hyjal is merely a setback!"

If wrath of the lich king is 6/10, I will give cata beta a 8/10 rating - better but still need a lot of improvements across the board (need balancing, less bugs, better spawns, etc etc).

Wait, so after we went back in time and stopped Archimonde before, why is Hyjal still getting fucked up? Is this more time travel with phasing?

to my understanding, when deathwing burst out from the earthen plan (deepholme), it torn the barriers among elemental planes apart. This allowed ragnaros (which was banished back to his plane after Molten Core) to invade Hyjal with the help of the Twilight Hammer cult.

are they even trying anymore?

Eh its wierd, after all the hours I wasted in WoW, in retrospect, the time I spent casually leveling while chatting with friend and exploring were probably the best lol ~_~.

Why do people still play this game? It's the exact same game as in 2005 with 10 times the health and 3 new skills per class...

The story and leveling experiences are pretty good.

Its still a pretty good game by mmorpg standards and its a great place to do stuff with friends.
level 82-83 is a pain, done 2/3 of deepholme and gain only like 1/2 a level.

I wanted to hit 83 before I sleep but its looking grim =(
