Before you laugh - this is more like a guide for Diamonds n00bs like me. I want to share this particular counter that I found and really enjoyed doing whenever getting cannon rushed.

Yes cannon rush in PvP is a viable strategy even in mid-low Diamond, that's why people still do it. It's easy to stop if you realize the early probe or early forge, but it's still possible to miss it until they got the first proxy pylon up, especially if they use the 6th probe, or chat to distract you.

There is an easy way to deal with this strat that doesn't require too cautious scouting - build another nexus. The most important thing you need to realize is a pylon + 2 cannons are already worth a nexus. Just follow these simple rules:

- Try to harvest at your main base as long as you can.

- Force him to build as many cannons in your base as possible.

- Pretend that you don't know what to do. FAKE NERDRAGEEE.

- Expand in a gold expo if possible. Avoid expanding to your nat if the cliff could overlook the nat - he could extend the cannon rush there easily.

- Have either cannons or stalkers to: prevent more cannon rushes at the new base, and defend the remaining tech buildings still in your first base. Just one cannon/stalker will do.

- Now that you have a massive tech & econ lead, do something fun like mass sentries or fast mothership :p

I personally prefer to do it this way than denying the cannon rush right away, because it's more fun (especially with the fake nerd rage :p)

Interesting if its unscouted, and they dont switch from cannons too early, thsi could be strong. But if they get like 2-3 good cannons up and then go stalker or something... you better hurry ^^

Usually the cannon rusher will be behind in both econ and tech. If you don't reveal the plan to migrate to a different expo too early, they will most likely build more than 2 cannons in your base too. Also as I said, do some nerdrage (to assure them that they're winning and there's nothing suspicious going on) :p

I like this strategy a lot :D As long as your new nexus comes up asap you can get by with very minimal damage to your own economy and pull out ahead.

Just don't let your opponent box you in with pylons at your ramp, if that happens this whole charade could fail immediately.

i like it, never thought of countering a cannon rusher by proxy nexus somewhere on the map. lol, kinda want to get cannon rushed now.

sure, what's your B.net ID?
If you watch Godzilla backwards it's about a benevolent lizard who helps rebuild a city and then moonwalks into the ocean.

This doesn't make sense at all, he can just follow your probe train and discover your gold expo the second your nexus is destroyed.

You have a better chance beating him by just proxying gateways in his base.

On a more serious note, is cannon rushing that much more viable in SC2 than BW??

He will eventually know, but with the immobility of cannon rushing, and a little bit of defence (as I said, either a stalker or a cannon), you will be fine.

No, do not go for this before you have the new base properly up running. Proxying gateways when your base is slowly dying is an all-in attempt and most likely won't work. Because if there is anything a cannon rusher is good at, it is defending a desperate all-in from you. He will most likely have some cannons in his base and constantly check for any kind of desperate all-in/proxy.

In SC2 an average/noob-ish player can do it more efficiently thanks to auto mining and queuing.
