I mean it's fucking 2.0! That means its updated and better right? WRONG.
- No chat channels.
- Terrible, terrible interface, have to click 5000 things to do something simple. + Show Spoiler +
Like If I want to look through a match history, after each match, I have to re do every step. Same with viewing friends ladder divsions, etc. etc. And they are so confusing because there are like 4-5 sub menus and they aren't laid out plainly.
- No hotkeys at all for game lobbies, or battlenet.
- No realms.
- Laggy interface. That damn spinning circle blank screen is fun. + Show Spoiler +
remember when people were complaining about the slow interface and those damned chains in war 3? Well now we have the spinning circle, hooray!
- Can't host replays online. Can't even send replays to friends without 3rd party programs or websites.
- No team/Clan Support. War 3 had this, nice update to orginal bnet.
- Chat commands. Remember "/f m hi who wants to game?". Now all we have is worthless broadcast that doesn't hit friends in game and you can only see the last 10 or so out of your 50 friends, and /r which doesn't seem to work if you are chatting to a guy in a window then join a game.
- Offline friends listed by real name and not nickname.
- Map Publishing system is a huge failure.
- Need realID to be able to do the important shit on on bnet 2.0 but tbh I'd rather not give out my email everywhere and have people's real names etc. I HATE typing email addresses.
- Must type in email and password to join bnet. Can not save password.
- Ladder maps are positionally imbalanced. Not even going to get into racial imbalanced maps.
- Game F10 Menu is crappier. No "exit game button" to rage quit sc2, no "are you sure? confirmations"
- End game screen doesn't show some of the important standard basic shit it showed in BW
- etc...
Oh and every Tuesday morning we get this cool downtime for 5 hours.
I mean I know these threads have been made 100 times, but seriously Blizzard what the fuck? When beta was supposed to be come out last year, you said "nono we gotta make sure bnet 2.0 is all good to go first" and we waited several more months. Then beta went down for another month after phase 1 and still no fixes. Now the game is out and it's the same terrible system.
Lan has nothing to do with b.net so I wont mention that but it would be nice to have lan while bnet goes down every fucking week wouldn't it?
Why is it every time something new and improved comes out, no matter what it is. They always make it look all flashy and shit but totally forget the utilitarian side of it? A lot of the functions that you and everyone else who loves the program/cellphone/service/etc are totally left out of the new version which makes people disgruntled and go back to their old versions.

This is really thought provoking CM. Why has no one thought of these ideas before?
|
The thing that annoys me the most is how the match list is organized by map name and not opponents name. If i want to look back at a game I played against a certain opponent i have to randomly click through 100's of games until i find it
|
I wish we could click on our profiles and actually see something useful as well instead of all these achievements and bullshit.
For example; Ladder Matchup win/loss & percentage Custom game Matchup win/loss & percentage Best win streak/ worst loss streak. etc

Is there any automated way to save replays? Or do you have to manually save them after each game so they won't get dropped after ~10 more games?
|
is there ANY possibility to find out my win/loss ration in all matchups (like it was on ICCUP)?

I completely agree CM. Not being able to play Sc2 with your friends on different continents, great! Not being able to hangout in a channel full of friends or just good old casual gaming channels, great!
Ugh really...

I find myself not knowing how to find a clan without chat channels :S
I really just want to play some clan leagues and shit and in WC3 I used to hang out in the clan channels and then ask for a tryout game or something and we were good to go :S

Talk about retarded system they implemented to search for custom games. If you wanna play a map that is not in the first page, you will never be able to find a game.....
Who was the mentally incapacited Blizzard employee that came up with such an illogical system?

I'd like to add I'm nowhere near good enough to take advantage of it, but still.

That's handy. Thanks for this.
Now I wish we could send replays to each other from within the game.

I present you with CALCULATOR 2.0.!
I worked for months on this and its great, you're gonna love it. Server maintenance going on right now for an undetermined amount of time so sit tight before you get to your calculations.

Blizzard is on it!

The one positive thing about bnet 2.0 is that it saved me $60.

I laughed so hard when TheMango was like "Yea it only autosaves your last 5 replays, but you can use Windows' scheduler and a vbs script to save them..."

LOL well played. Also, the replay folder doesn't keep track of the last folder accessed so I'd have to navigate back to the same folder every time I finished a replay.
|
And you have to use mouse for everything, bnet1 you could do basically everything with keyboard shortcuts, which if you haven't noticed, makes things faster. Oh, and you can't forget random drops in game where you don't lose internet connection or even connection to bnet2 (you go back to the multiplayer menu, still logged in, and in many cases it's obvious there was no drophack involved). Oh don't forget, no way to squelch someone in game. And if one of your real-id friends is being a real ass and bothering you, you can't squelch him unless you've also added him via 3 digit identifier.

Speaking as someone who works with software and is aware of the challenges Blizzard might be facing in rolling out a large new project:
They suck. They're lazy. They're stupid. They're run by interns.
You're absolutely correct to be outraged by a lot of these issues. There are good and simple fixes to the UI issues (assuming they haven't relegated the job to interns), the lack of LAN, cross-realm games, hosted live replays, & chat rooms. This bullshit is 100% political inertia - it's super easy to implement these things (unless they have interns writing all of their code).
I know Blizzard has a lot of smart engineers (full-time employees, not slave interns), so it has to be a failure of leadership and decisiveness. Or maybe they just plan on charging you extra for chat rooms in an expansion pack?
Why is it every time something new and improved comes out, no matter what it is. They always make it look all flashy and shit but totally forget the utilitarian side of it? A lot of people who go into the game industry are artists & 3D graphics programmers. Only an experienced subset of Blizzards engineers (read: not interns) make the calls regarding how the engine runs - the overall performance of the game is therefore in the hands of a few, but performance optimization is always an afterthought (especially by interns).
We'll likely see a lot of lag and usability issues get fixed in major patches to come - after they've been complained about a lot in forums and the developers have had time to fully analyze the problem.
The devs have probably been so tied up with bugs in the unit physics/interactions, game logic and map editor, and cutting corners on the graphics prior to game release that they haven't had time to worry about game play. Also consider that the lobby code was probably developed by a separate team from the game engine (probably a team of interns).

I regret buying the game just to play online...server disconnects counts as loss, match finding takes up to half an hour at high levels, profiles doesn't load and everything else OP mentioned.
So much for a decade of expectations. All thou personally I'm not even disappointed because since 07 I didn't have any expectation that they would deliver the sequel to the best RTS of all-time.
Edit : Oh and for the past 2 days on the http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/ server, I can't play online because "No StarCraft II license found", I hope this is temporary...

fffffffffffffffffffff
turns me off sc2 evne more even though bnet2 isnt part of the game..

lot of these are really important/good.

Maybe raise hell about it at blizzcon?

You know what, I thought I'd get used to it, but I haven't. Bnet 2 is just dumb. It is just dumb, for real.
What a colossal mistake by Blizzard. You gotta think there's something up in their office. This kind of shit would be unimaginable before WoW.

Guys but the interface is so pretyyyyyyyyy how can you say these mean things .

This is how big corporations work. It isn't about excellence, it is about good enough. Yeah, bnet2 blows, and we've all known since the beta. And we all still bought the game. And we're gonna buy the two expansions too, even if bnet2 doesn't improve.

Because no amount of ridicule from TL and every other sc community will dent their profits. We all bought the game regardless of the obvious issues with bnet 2.0 right?
EDIT: Hell Starcraft 3 can be about the great pony wars of 2546 and we would still buy it.

We did it because we believed Blizzard is good at what they do.
The more they keep dirting their name, the less credit Blizzard is gonna receive from us, eventually we will be so disappointed that we will no longer buy the low quality games from them. Of course it is Blizzard, so their credit with us will take a long time of fade out...
edit: just to clarify, I'm by no means saying SC2 is a low quality game!

Your ninja edit is the answer. Do you think casualites wanna play on bnet 1.0? It is so efficient and simple to use, but its "ugly", there are no stupid achievements, and it lacks the myriad of other shit thats been added to bnet 2.0.
Even with all the development time and money spent, I guarantee that they made a hefty return on their "work".
@Fabiano We can all agree that SC2 kicks ass, but bnet -_-;

Because the same old shit allowed for things like pirate servers and lan play over hamachi with pirate copies.

Also, I think we should give Blizzard a little more time. Maybe they're all packaging this stuff 1 one big mega update. ^^;

I did spoke to one of those Bnet teams when I was at SC2 opening at Fry's. one of them said "Chat room are coming, not anytime soon, but its coming" what a faggot reply. If i know the Bnet team is there I wouldn't let them sign my book.
I am more into custom game lobbies, *get rid of the 1 game room at once. *manual start the game lobby (do we really need 30 second to start a Sotis / Marine Arena game?) *If the host is idle, there should be a vote to start.

bnet2 sounds like trouble
they should allmost just insert BW interface again, so clean, so neat, nothing else, GG

Not to mention what a bitch it is to create a game as a party when you have more players then the map has spots. Even if you can make with spectators.
|
All of these problems are making the actual online experience alot less enjoyable. For most people there is zero community online. Alot of the known players have bustling friends lists, but the majority of players probably dont have any on their list, and just sit there in between games.
One of the bigger things that gets on my nerves is that you cannot even spectate your friend playing a custom game open to the public. How bullshit is that? Seriously, it's like blizzard doesnt want anyone to actually communicate and make friends on their server.
Personally, other than the actual game itself being alot of fun, I am NOT enjoying my experience so far.

I feel the exact same way, the only people I have on my friends list are people I either know offline, or people I have played SC1/WoW with. I have not met a single person in game that I either added or talked to after a game. Whats the point? They have probably moved on to their next game, logged off, or dont feel like talked to someone they lost to/roflstomped. I thought I would get used to the new bnet after release and get excited to play but it just hasn't happened.
I realize now that chat channels and clans were really the only thing that kept me playing the original game. I probably wont be playing too much SC2 anymore after I finish the single player, and its a damn shame cause the game really is good. Perhaps Blizzard will fix the issues like chat channels, hosting online replays, and fixing the custom games problems with parties in the future, but will it be too late to capture a community element for players new to starcraft? With clans likely not on the horizon until HotS, I think so.

Yes, Bnet 2.0 is utter shit. We said it when we first saw it, we said it when we first got it, and we're saying it now. They said it was going to be revolutionary, but the fact of the matter is a fucking high schooler could have done a better job. True fact.
Can we get an interviewer to approach Dustin Browder or whomever and say this to their face? And not a diplomatic "hey have you noticed these issues?" but rather a more direct "what the fuck were you thinking calling this complete pile of horseshit revolutionary?"
I'm a fairly calm guy, and I tend to be cool, forgiving and understanding about most things, but the broken promise that is Bnet 2.0 really, really pisses me off.
|
lol wow. that really makes me pissed off hahah. I totally forgot all these failures of bnet. BUT I try not to think about how crappy it is >.<
|
BNet 2.0 let me finally find out the real name of an ex-WoW guild mate, who was the brother of another guy in the guild who I've been playing with, who refused to tell us his name.
God bless you, BNet 2.0.
|
I failed to notice your sarcasm until deep into the list ^^;
Right now most of my bw friends don't play sc2, so bnet 2.0 does not bother me so much.
I miss my e-friends T.T
|
By far the worst part of bnet 2.0 is the fact that it feels like a ghost town. My only friends are my IRL friends and like two guys I played BW with seven years ago.
They should have taken bnet 1.0, added matchmaking, and called it done. That would have been PERFECT. Glad they're looking for a new team, though. The guys who came up with this catastrophe should be fired.

I could not agree more with nearly everything I've read here. I'm really the last guy to bitch but Blizzard spectacularly failed with the new bnet. They are just ruining the whole community experience and I don't get it ... I don't get how Blizzard could benefit from that. IMHO it's going to badly hurt SC2's growth. You cannot even see the character code of your friends once you've added them so you can't give it to other ppl you know. How DUMB is that ????
Thank TS for providing me a place to shout my hate for Bnet 2.0 !
