After listening to you on DjWheat's show i was hoping to see some good news for community made maps but i wasn't expecting this. Good luck! You are definitely one of the best mapmakers out there and deserve the position.

That's not meant to be some kind of diss- your maps and contributions are cool and all, but just keep that in mind while waiting for an answer and maybe don't get your hopes up too much ![]() Good luck, though!

Not only are your maps vastly different from those Blizzard publishes, but I imagine the job is moreso geared to those who are going to develop scenarios for the Heart of the Swarm campaign (involving a lot of trigger work, naturalistic terrain design work as opposed to geometric melee map design, etc.) That's not meant to be some kind of diss- your maps and contributions are cool and all, but just keep that in mind while waiting for an answer and maybe don't get your hopes up too much ![]() Good luck, though! hehe, i was originally only applying for the associate level designer position but i figured what the hell and went for all three. what i said in my cover letter essentially was that I wanted to contribute as much to sc2 as an esport as i possibly could. if that's not what they're looking for, then so be it. I'll continue to what I can as a member of the community and try to reach out whenever i can

And every single map has some gimmick; DRocks, XWT, gold bases, etc. I think the key elements for a map are: Safe Natural. Semi wide choke outside nat. Wide open spaces in the middle for flanking and meneuvering. (as well as key places where it is tight). Relatively close 3rd (since zerg needs creep and are so fucking slow) which is not positionally imbalanced (so basically each mainbase has 2 equal options for a 3rd base in either direction of towards or away from opponent). After the basic design can accomplish this, then throw in whatever concepts on top of it that don't screw with this too much. I think most of the imbalance bitching (especally ZvT) is mainly due to the maps. The maps are just bad. Even the most loved and 'balanced' map Metalopolis has glaring problems. - The gold base is unusable in ZvT entirely. There is no time at all unless you have won the game that this base is safe to take. The XWT platforms and other gold base are too close to them. - Close ground positions is worse than Steppes of war because of the blue mineral 3rd base is unholdable in ZvP or ZvT. As well as the fact that you have this ramp that they can siege into your nat from at a very early time in the game. -The nats are very wide open, and then have a medium choke to get out of. This is horrible if you need to defend the ramp with static de, because then they can just loop around and go behind minerals with hellions or stalkers or whatever. -Close air positions suck balls in ZvT because overlords have no where to go without risk of being sniped from first 1 or 2 marines. -No good places to put overlords on the map really around the nats of the bases (which is arguably the most important place). Except for top base where there is a huge space behind main/nat mins for some reason. -Gold base has too many entry points, would be better served if they lost the central ramps. -Not as bad as KR but this map is just a bunch of routes and chokes, which doesn't help zerg all that much because they need creep spreading and flank setups. -The stupid fucking statues and crap all over the map that you can misclick on. (I'm trying to retreat and I clicked a mengsk wolf, oh well I should just play better). -Geyser positions are slightly further in some mains and nats, not sure how big of an issue this is but i've definitely noticed it. I mean I only really feel like the map is semi decent when I get diagonal positions. And every other map in the map pool is at least 5 times worse. It's kind sad when this is the best hope I have to look for when I ladder. If I could I would X out most of the maps because they are really bad for Z. PS- If you do make it, put in some word for me I'd love to help design some decent ladder maps or do some more BW ports for sc2. I live close enough to blizzard hq. ![]()

I wonder what their interview is like. I've always imagined blizzard to be a really laidback, nerdy and fun environment. Becareful if you get an Activision Overlord interviewer, distinguishable by their black robes, red eyes and veins around the temples. Go for the chaotic-evil answers . GL!
