Hate to be a blog whore, but, I can't help it. Today, it seems to have all clicked for me. In the beginning of beta I was a bronze player and towards the end I was a low-gold player. I, like many others, had to over come that fear of hitting "1v1 search" I finally placed, went 4-1 and got back into gold. Then, I hit that point again.. afraid to hit the 1v1... After winning my first round in a tournament, I gained confidence.. maybe I can do this. Ended up playing several more games grabbing only 1 loss and a few more wins.
Perhaps playing random added to my intimidation factor, thinking I can't be as good as the gold, plats, and diamonds who pick one race and stick with it. I SEEM to have gotten quite a few builds down for each race, allowing me to adapt or set the pace of my liking. I am beginning to over come that fear of hitting 1v1 and fear of losing. So what if I lose? Learn and move on and win.
Thanks again for reading guys, sorry for blog whoring. ^^;

I think we all know this fear from iccup. i preferred to stop playing when reaching a high rank. Thought it would be better to keep my ranking rather than playing good players and lose the ranking. Always the same....

at least you dont have to deal with koreans >.<
PvT is by far my best mu in bw, and every time i meet a korean terran i somehow i destroyed. its disgusting.
korean zergs give me nightmares. so i started dodging them.

But in iccup, if you reach C- or C first time in your life, you could just get another account and ladder with it as well (if you don't know how to do, ask remag, but that dude is way higher than C- but he still has plenty of smurfs). In bnet, it's not that easy to get a smurf or some smurfs (at least not as easy as iccup, right ?)

i had the same attitude when i started playing sc:bw years ago, i was so focused on my rank and my points, i was afraid of losing, ragequitting after a few games and stuff... In my case some of my friends made fun of me, saying stuff like "ohh dude u suck so hard why even play this old game". One day i woke up and realised that this kind of thinking would get me nowhere in life and sc:bw. Just fuck it. Stats don´t matter, accounts don´t matter. Loose because loosing shows you your weaknesses. Try it and don´t be afraid of it. For me 1on1 is like a bitter beer. At first it doesn´t taste that good but after a few sips u just can´t stop (especially after loosing).

it's all about hitting that find match button. trite as it sounds, every game is just a huge bunch of progress and revelations for me and i'm diamond. at gold, it's gotta be even better. keep playing, it pays off.

Man do I hate blog whores.
Yeah I understand what you mean a bit about that fear of hitting the button but... I'm glad you've gotten over that. It really is very silly.

People should start learning to fear the post button. It's a lot more intimidating knowing how easy it is for you to look like a moron or an asshole online that it is to lose a game of starcraft.
(this isn't directed at you Mortis, mahnini just sparked this thought)

(this isn't directed at you Mortis, mahnini just sparked this thought) Plus the fact that you can get warned/banned at almost any post. (well, outside of the SC2 forum I guess)

AI on Very Hard is comparable to most gold players, or at least it was in my league. I always play a practice game before matchmaking to warm up and solidify my build. Also, if you have some bonus pool saved up, there's really not much to lose in laddering, as you can go 1:1 and still advance.

feel the same damn way all the time

No one cares about your stupid rank or whatever. You're just another player in a sea of them and no one cares. You got some stupid rating and who cares, congratulations you've just done something easy that you could probably do again and again.
No I don't mean it as a troll, this is the attitude you should take. The more willing you are to think of your ladder accomplishments are meaningless and something you could do without an effort in the world the more willing you will be able to play. Your rating is stupid and no one cares about it so why should you? You're only a good player if you're actually a good player, you're not a good player because some rating tells you so.
Lose a bunch of points? no big deal, you're good enough to get them back at some point in the future. The accomplishment of hitting x-rating isn't taken away because you then immediately dropped 500 points.
The sooner you let go of your rating the faster you'll become a better player.

I have started to get over that button fear as well, I used to play 1 game win or lose and I wouldn't play another, but now I just click, click, click its good fun now and am really enjoying the game so much.

Nah, gold players don't have that good of timing pushes as very hard AI, I'd say at least plat if you don't cheese it to win.

Thanks for the plys ^^; And I know how silly it sounds and I know logo, that's kinda what has gotten me over that fear. Who cares. No matter what situation you are in with competition, there will ALWAYS be losing. Being afraid of that is being afraid of competition.
@micro: Sorry ^^;
@hurricane: Ah, ok ^^;
In general: I get scared to post on the main forums just because I come from another extensive gaming back ground in MMO's (no, not WoW) where the noobs or people who make the same old posts/arguements get scalded by the community and/or warned/suspended by the mods. Kinda why I post here a lot, where I only look like a jackass by a few people and not a few thousand people ^^;. Thanks again for all the input. This is why I like this community.
