I know every Aussie and his pet kangaroo that he rides to work has had a go at this topic - but seriously this is a god damn joke.
A lot of outsiders (eg people not from SEA) seem to think that we have a fantastic deal here with Blizzard - We get access to a "local" server, and then after the recent announcement about getting access to USA servers soon - we get that 'added bonus' of playing with the lively folks in America.
First thing; The server is not 'local' - it's in Singapore. I know the main issue with that is partly our own fault - the main company controlling our communications infrastructure (apparently) had previously rejected a request from Blizzard to put a server here. (If someone knows more about this please feel free to enlighten me, I'm just going off things I've heard). However, according to a couple of internet providers here (who obviously would also have the power to host a Blizzard server) no one has been approached to set anything up. I believe I saw something from an iiNet big guy that they had never been asked about it, but they have the resources, and they'd love to help out. Obviously the last part is a bit of PR crap to look good, but still, the feeling was there. (Anyone got a link to this article? I couldn't find it )
So now we must deal with a server in Singapore, which while a lot closer than the US West servers - is still giving most of us terrible terrible ping as per usual. In fact I've heard from some folks that if you're on some specific internet providers, you get a worse ping to Singapore than to US West. Riddle me that Blizzard. Once again, if someone can explain that please feel free to post.
The other main issue I just experienced a short while ago - is that no one is on here. I know that it's the middle of a Friday, most folks are at work, etc - but seriously, unable to get a 3v3 within a few minutes? Seriously?
My 3v3 status for a long time I would presume
I'd hate to see how folks with 4v4 teams are going. As I said, I know it's currently the middle of the day here, but I've heard that a lot of other people had trouble at peak times too.
I know it's still only a few days after release but really - last night I saw on that SC2 'home screen' - 19885 games Worldwide - 1002 games in your region. Gee thanks Blizzard! Roughly 1000 games out of about 20k?
The SEA server - looks all pretty, but there's nothing here.
Hopefully once we get our access to the US server, we'll be able to play some more consistant games, with some quality opponents too. I am by no means a great player, I'm definitely the first to admit that - however one of Australia's best players GLaDe is currently 28-0 on the ladder. Unless he comes up against some of the other higher level folks, he's going to storm through every player he gets 'matched' against purely because the player base here is so low.
Thanks for another excellent decision Blizzard, lets hope that giving us access to the US servers will remedy this ridiculous issue.
The same look Blizzard had when they decided to seggregate the SEA players. (Thanks Mystlord! <3)
Cheers.

Yeah, SEA is pretty much unplayable at peak times. During the morning/day it's ok.

Do you mean because of lag? I haven't really had any trouble with "spiking" ping at all - but to me the fact that there is no real difference to the US servers is just a joke.

I remember back in Early WOW, that Telstra was asking Blizzard to let them host servers. I would imagine that its more likely that Blizzard already had plans for a server in Singapore and decided that Aus/NZ could help bolster the population.

I don't think Blizzard is to blame 100% for it. Australia/NZ usually has trouble in lots of games right?

Ouch, that really sucks for global competition tbh. If the thing about ping is true, not sure why they won't let SEA play on US or Asia.

Wasn't it the other way around? Blizzard asked Telstra and they (being the bitches they are) said no?
Yeah we have always had trouble with this sort of thing, it sucks that people have just gotten used to it - but that said there isn't really too much we can do as a community on this particular topic. The corporate world seems to not care that we'd want our own servers here.

It's been spiking about every 3 seconds for me and a LOT of other aussies/kiwis at night .

But yeah, I think I saw like 2 Singaporeans in all of my friend's leagues and 90% are Aussies, with two or three kiwis here or there. Haven't spotted any fili names I recognise.
The whole server is just one big Trans-Tasman tournament...
It just sucks that the most active of the nations out there, and most well-connected are the ones with very small populations (Aus - 21mil, SG - 5mil, NZ - 4mil). Despite countries like Indonesia having huge populations the percentage that have access to high end PCs, decent internet or can afford the game would be much lower than other countries.

Do you really want cross-server!?

Lol, I'm trying to run a global tournament ... it's kinda sensitive for me too
PS. Hiya plays Yu-gi-oh! I knew it. + Show Spoiler +Where's his millenium item?

SEA custom games are also dead.
There is like no one playing it, the list is pretty much empty.

I have noticed no difference between SEA and US. I really don't see the point of the SEA server.

The one big issue I had regarding lag was that (for me at least) doing some sexy marauder kiting or any other kiting is really really hard to do - yet for our USA opponents it's quite easy.
I thought if we'd get segregated and if we had our own server I'd be able to properly do these fun sorts of micro things. But no, it's still that brief bit of lag where doing the required "moves" to pull of kiting just does not work. It absolutely infuriates me that an opponent I'm playing against can do it, but I can't just because of the fact that certain people are too narrow-minded to at least entertain the option of bringing a server here.
Then again that brings it back to the issue I spoke of earlier that there is seemingly no one here anyway - just an hour ago some other Aussies and I played a 4v4 with 4 pc's purely because we had waited 30 minutes and no one seemed to be coming. (It was 2+2 v 2+2 fyi... not us vs 4 AI lol).

I just lol'd at the picture of Hiya. What's also funny is that he has his mouth closed LOL
