So one of the first online communities I was involved in was D2 jsp, a trading forum for D2. d2jsp is not a pleasant place to be. Unfortunately, I started d2 again recently uz i was bored this summer. even more unfortunately, that means i ended up using d2jsp as that is simply the easiest way to get items. but the fucking community is the worst. the worst. coming off of d2jsp, i expected most online gaming communities to be similar in the amount of general rudeness and immaturity - after all, it is the internet with a bunch of teenagers doing whatever they want. but TL proved to be an exception to my expectations.
i made a blog earlier about how immature and horrible jsp was compared to TL, but i just witnessed a new low. i kinda expected this kind of response to be there considering the kind of people that live on this site, but it still blew my fucking mind nonetheless: http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=46311890&f=52
thank you TL, for being able to lend sympathetic ears to forum members in need. thank you TL, for having enough common sense to know when you gotta be serious. thank you TL, for having the willingness to help out and offer advice. thank you TL for being everything jsp isnt.

i read through it and all i saw that was bad was that 1 guy. rest of the comments were consolatory and condemning of that one guy
Don't let one rotten apple spoil the bunch.

It's not really the people on tl that are better, it's just that we're more constrained. the moderation on TL is unforgiving. also the fact that being publicly BM is really shunned upon in the starcraft community probably also contributes to this. but yah, the community is good because of this
|
I admit I would troll a lot more if the moderation team was not as effective I mean not really trolling, but I would do a lot more of one-line jokes, especially in the general forum. But I just don't, and try to make constructive posts everytime I can. And I think Malgrif made a good point when saying that public BMing is not appreciated at all in the starcraft community.

I hear people on TL clean up after you even when you puke IRL too.

Agree with this.
My favorite thing about this forum is that the posts aren't the 95% trolling bullshit you find on other forums, and you can't actually discuss/talk about stuff without worry about 14 guys coming in and posting meme photos/etc.
Kudos to the staff for this.

Yeah, the teamliquid moderators do a great job of keeping this community free from spam / trash.
|
Kudos to the moderators, TL is the best website on the internet for keeping trolls out and letting intellegent people stay.

definitely agree that the moderators fucking rock on TL. the mods are very proactive and personally involved in weeding out/keeping a lot of that kind of thing from TL - you guys make this place the hospitable community that it is (but you already knew that ).
As for the actually people making up the jsp community... its partly their fault, yet the game inclines them to be that way. There's also a lot of other reasons that I can think of that jsp is so much of a mess compared to TL. such personal moderation is kinda impossible for jsp, just due to its sheer size and speed that threads are updated (its an rpg trade forum). really, i dont know how the mods handle it there. On top of that, the nature of diablo 2 gameplay is just inclined to fostering a lot of immaturity and e-rage. public games are always full of kids who trash talk and are just rude by default to everyone, to the point where its just accepted as a norm, and many people adopt an "if you cant beat them, join them" attitude. im sure a lot of these kinds of people would mostly be chill if you knew them IRL, but when they go into d2 mode and play behind their characters, they become totally different people. I guess its common enough to BM in starcraft, but in my experience, its definitely not the norm. And when forum currency is involved (which some people spend hundreds of dollars to buy from the site), things can only get worse... ive seen people do such self-deprecating things to get richer. and ofc, trolls follow that shit like vultures to a probeline.
the bottom line is: thank you, mods, for helping keep TL as friendly and civilized place.

Yea it's mainly cause the mods are so unforgiving here. I made a troll thread and ended up getting IP banned for 6 months lol
|
lmao, i can just imagine going from JSP to TL, must be like going from hell to heaven!
Every time I go from TL to another forum I am constantly shocked at how bad the community there is. I guess I am spoiled by how good TL is
|
the internet allows people to be like that. They wouldn't dare try it in real life. That's why I believe in TL mods and the way they deal with people.

i strictly deal with trading on jsp, and nothing else, cuz i know its gonna start pissing me off.
i really dont mean to sound like im elitist or something saying this stuff... but ive honestly never had the urge to troll, so i kind of have a hard time understanding why so many people on jsp act like such douchebags there. but as i mentioned, i guess its nastier than it really looks just because d2 brings that aspect of people out
|
Meh, why would you post something like that in an online community? It's the ultimate fish for attention. I'm not saying the comments were justified but what the hell was he expecting?

We also had to dodge the cops
can't believe the fucker actually called the cops on us
|
Well not on us. The guy called the cops because he asked Omin who he was with and Omin said he was with nobody. And the guy called the cops back that Omin was with someone after he found out.
|
Lol, if you've never been to D2Jsp you have no idea how bad a community can be...it is mindfuckingly terrible. I would say 4chan is a better community than Jsp...it's that bad.
