today i was playing beta and i lost due to the fact that i didnt block off on lost temple. in my mind i thought it was a four player map and theres only 1/3rd chance that my opponent will get zerg however a min minutes in, i get owned with a bunch of lings runing by ...

what are your thoughts about blocking off pvX

its a total double edged sword because walling off really fucks you up if they get t and do early marauder

just get an earlier gate vs random. There is no way he will be able to beat you if you defend the 5pool correctly. Your economy will be farther ahead then him, set up a timed attack, he taps out.

i think he went 10 pool and produced nothin but lings afta however i was goin for a 3 gate robo and i think i scouted him last and he scounted me fris twith the overlord trick where u move away as soon as u see your opponent so they cant see ur overlord

Scout early for sure. I always wall just in case. If you use your first couple stalker/sentries correctly the wall thing becomes not such an issue vT. It sucks though because it almost forces you to play defensively as you will have less room to scoot n' shoot as the ramp becomes the final battleground instead of the Nexus.

If they get P or Z your in good shape. I'd rather go with the 66% odds than the 33% !

scout early play conservative there are ways to build sim cities to walls that only use 1 zealot to work.

yes however last time i did that against a random who turned out to be terran player and i went blink stalkers and the choke just did not play into my advantage at the end causing me to lose ebn with blink

I personally block off against every race no matter the match up. Since you have decreased tactical advantage with the miss chance being removed that any extra advantage I can get is better. My answer to the marauder question before someone asks is to just force field the ramp or stall with zealot+probe wall while I try to get out a sentry asap, then I transition into a zealot/sentry force especially against mass marauder.

Walling vs. Terran is SUCH a bad idea. They just have too many ranged units. If they scan they will shoot up the cliff and destory your pylon's and such. Plus Reaper rushes become VERY VERY strong.

I build my base around my nexus so that the only way out is near the back but yet all my units can spawn outside the wall.

I suggest just walling off all the time since it will be effective in 2/3 matchups. Keep in mind that the only disadvantage of building on a ramp is that your buildings are more exposed (also blocks your own army, but P has warpgates anyways), but should they be in harms way it means hes pressuring you and you're probably at a disadvantage anyways. Be sure to double power your gateway with a pylon that is further back.

Defending against speed lings without a blocked ramp is very difficult for amateur protoss playesr to deal with.
