The fine folks over at Activision have probably realized by now that they are in the worst PR situation of any videogame company ever. Perhaps for that reason, they greenlit a remake of King's Quest that they had shut down in March.

http://www.destructoid.com/kings-quest-fan-game-is-go-release-july-10-177633.phtml

Clearly this is a new era for Activision (public relations)!

I remember reading about them shutting this down.
It's cool that the game is given a green light to continue, but from all the other stuff I've read about Activision I think it will be rather hard for them to change their public image

I don't know if Activision is trying to become nicer, or they just received enough hate mail regarding the shut down that they figure it will still be profitable.

Maybe they realized that long-term that strategy of ruining gaming is not profitable?

Guess some companies just value (or realise the value of) goodwill more.

Its profitable- look at all the shit they pulled with sc2, yet they will make millions anyway. gamers are too hard core, and too addicted to not buy the next new game.

the only value of good will, is the PR that it might get you- so you can make more money.

Wow, thank you so freaking much for posting this. I am so excited! I was crushed when Activision pulled their little redlight stunt on this game.

SO EXCITED! THANKS MOTBOB!

I swear- most newcomers to this site are so enamored by sc2- that they will purchase anything, and will be the money bitch that acti / blizz caters too. They are hopelessly addicted to a horrible game- and will pay through the nose, and give up all of their privacy rights to get it

That's enough of a list to warrant the phrase "Look at all the shit they did"

I swear- most newcomers to this site are so enamored by sc2- that they will purchase anything, and will be the money bitch that acti / blizz caters too. They are hopelessly addicted to a horrible game- and will pay through the nose, and give up all of their privacy rights to get it

Damn cutting edge gfx for 2004.

But then again, it's free ^_^ Looks like it could be a nice RPG to kill some time with.

Its profitable- look at all the shit they pulled with sc2, yet they will make millions anyway. gamers are too hard core, and too addicted to not buy the next new game.

You have completely missed the point.

Yes, please continue.

I don't think that i should have to continue -.-

Exactly, it means you can't continue, thus why I asked for you to continue.

I still have faith they will deliver a nice product at the end of the day, even if that end of the day is 3 years after the last expansion. It's their business model.

They already confirmed chat channels, and are considering Cross-Realm play/LAN.

I'll continue:

The attempt to not make use of UDP to further grip their game (had to be changed for networking though)
microtransactions
poor PR control with little to no remorse
Online Ladder giving everyone a carebear atmosphere *(IM NUMBER 1 IN DIAMOND! ...with 5000000 other people.)

I *can* continue, should I?

It doesn't matter. 8 months after SC2 is out most of the people who signed up for TL.net after its release will have moved on to the next "blockbuster title". :D

Most (probably not all -- we might have caught a few people who will actively contribute after that arbitrary line I just made up) of these people are probably the same type of people who make the New Year's Resolution to get in shape, spend a month at the gym doing improper, inefficient, and often dangerous exercises, and then don't come back when they don't see any immediate results after a few weeks.

It wasn't long ago that EA was actually losing money because of their antics. PR is important to this industry. It ain't hollywood.

I don't know about losing money, but these companies are very aware of how PR effects their bottom line, and this move to precisely that
