What is this? Activision NOT being evil?

I remember reading about them shutting this down.
It's cool that the game is given a green light to continue, but from all the other stuff I've read about Activision I think it will be rather hard for them to change their public image

Most (probably not all -- we might have caught a few people who will actively contribute after that arbitrary line I just made up) of these people are probably the same type of people who make the New Year's Resolution to get in shape, spend a month at the gym doing improper, inefficient, and often dangerous exercises, and then don't come back when they don't see any immediate results after a few weeks.

I don't know about losing money, but these companies are very aware of how PR effects their bottom line, and this move to precisely that
