How long did it take you to get there?

(In response to 1 star): This is a serious question... SC2 isn't very appealing to me and I'm considering spending some time this summer to get past D+ -.-;

Ive been playing SC:BW since around 99 or 00' and i got B- first season of ICCup. Sadly even after like 10 seasons of on and off ICCup play i focused much more on 2x2 then 1x1 so i was still only around high B-'s. But i still tend to be able to reach it in about a week of serious play.

I havent played SC2 yet due to certain circumstances but i pretty much have the feeling that alot of competition will be gone once its released, so going B- in ICCup shouldnt take too long. Just take your time and focus on your builds and timed attacks imo.

Edit: Well i suppose your multi-task should prolly get better before u start learning timed pushes and shit. But just knowing ur timed pushes can help u win alot of lower level games even if ur multi task isnt up to par.

It took me about 3-4 years to get to B-/B rank. But I never put any real effort in, I just watched replays and played when I was bored.

4 seasons when I really cared. and B- meaning B- HIGH.

But that took like seven years of playing on Bnet prior.

yeah it takes many years to increase rank that much if you dont focus on it/played casually since forever. However, nowadays there are tons of resources available so if a determined player is willing to learn and practice hard they can gain multiple ranks per season. A friend of mine recently started playing low money (used to play fastest maps alot) and went from c-/c to b- in 1 season. I gave him some advice and he already had decent handspeed from playing fastest, but you get the idea. The harder you apply yourself the faster you will improve.

I say go for it man, theres nothign like achieving a goal that youve thought out of reach for so long. Since you are a terran player, youll have to focus on mechanics alot but its definitely doable.

im with fyre_dragon on this one, though i may not be B- or a terran player there are the resources to learn out there such as liquipedia and they help a lot, personally though i believe that if you diligently practice with the intent to improve and watch your replays regularly then you can do it ^___^

5starred bcuz of a awesome goal ^___^ and bw > sc2 atm (sc2 still fun though just not as good as bw)

Actually all you need to do is one good well-timed push and you can reach B-, srsly. I used to get FD wins until C+... Sadly there's not that many foreign players anymore (thx SC2) so B- is harder to get...

Edit: Lol I completely didn't address the question. Uh. At least a year? Maybe two years?

3 seasons. However, I learned how to play TvP the wrong way and to this day I still suffer from it. In TvP I would just do 4 fact timing push when protoss gets his third nexus every single game and it would work until you get to B-. But this was when timing pushes were still popular in the pro scene and protosses didn't know how to react to it properly.

But I also hate the TvP matchup so much which is the reason why I even did timing pushes in teh first place so that games would only be about 15 minutes~..it is almost as boring as TvT to me and makes me wonder why I even picked terran in the first place.

I mean do you really want spend 30++ minutes on every TvP u play using the Flash Build? It's gets really discouraging when you spent the last 20 minutes turtleing waiting for that 2-1 upgrade and then when you finally move out, he comes in with storm, stasis and a ton of zealot goon before you have time to react and 8 tanks aren't in range to shoot his fukin units. Once that's over, he is remaxed from his 50 gateways in less than 2 minutes with the support of 5 expos. You start a new TvP game and then you do that all over again..turtle for 20 minutes.
We have competitive ladder, strong community, progaming in Korea going strong, perfectly balanced game..why do we need sc2? #1 ANTI-SC2 fan

ICCUP is actually a LOT more difficult now, because there are very few foreigns (as Kawaii said). Late 2009, I was able to easily reach C+ (did it with 4-5 different accounts in a season) , but now I'm barely at C- , and I have about 50% rate...

reason being, you're much more likely to get games vs a lot of Koreans, and the average skill is higher (because it's about a ~6 month increase in skill of the general population and a ~6 month decrease in skill to the SC2 people who haven't been playing BW) .

I pretty much agree with this. You could obviously dodge koreans and learn a couple of solids builds, this should be able to get you to C+ pretty quickly (couple of months, if you really spend time on it)

I generally play during korean hours, I don't think they are too much better they just play differently. I got B- in first iccup season (with protoss though, clearly it's imbalanced) and it took 2 seasons to make B- with terran. I think the most important thing to practice first is just get your standard build to follow up to around the 10minute mark, play for shorter games (as your mechanics will improve over time you can practice more long term games) and play as much as you can with the same builds, deviate as you improve.

Also, the korean-foreigner thing I don't buy one bit because the opponents you face will generate your skill improvement, so if the opponents are better and you are playing the same amount of games you should improve just as much, if not more.
I don't need luck, luck is for noobs, good luck to you though

playing since the game out , but i played money map for 2 year first . 1-2 year stop for come back later in low map . maybe 3-4 year for get B- and after , up till now many year for get from B- to A- .

but im playing this iccup season and im stuck at C+ rank lol , not sure if iccup become like twice as hard since sc2 or because you only play korean 99 % of the time now.

most people right now are not B- or better curently , maybe in the past but right now im pretty sure the best foreigner cant get A- curently unless he restart play the game seriously and try hard .

would be fun to know how many top foreigner still play seriously

Says sMi.Kira, a well known abuser, "Pro Team Practice Partner" poser, and scrub who couldn't break C rank last season. Also hacked when he was his "high rank".

To make this post a bit more helpful, I will say this. If you really wanted to get to B-, and took the time to study build orders, and mass game, it wouldn't take you too long if you put effort into it.

I started SC 2 years ago but mainly practiced 2v2. Last season I got my first Blue rank 1v1. So for me.. 2 years? Though I only play on weekends/break days.

It depends when you started playing, it took me 3-4 years to hit B. But at my time we didn't have liquipedia or flash.

^How to call someone out.
Yeah. But, srsly this thread as a whole makes me sad. I've played for two seasons and I still haven't broken in to C-. I practically play against only Koreans, but I don't think that's an excuse.
