i generally use bootcamp to play any game, but today after a reformat of my widnows partition, i decided to play the beta on my mac side. I installed the mac .dmg and updated to the newest patch. I figured since I can play the game on high on windows, I would be able to play on high on mac.
After the first minute into my first game, there was this insane screen lag. clicking on units was near impossible, shifting screens between main and natural took 2-3 seconds. I just left this game. I turned the settings to low, and was like, let's see how this does. The same immense lag problem. What I don't understand is how my computer on windows can play sc2 with no problems, no lag.
Is anyone able to play sc2 beta on mac? lol...(mouse acceleration lameness aside)

i have everything set to low and the game runs really really smoothly. how old is your computer?

lmfao, it's Dec 2009 15in macbook pro. with the ram/processor upgrades. I bought the mac for work purposes (3d rendering) and that works fine, but SC2 is just a joke.

Also, there are serious mouse acceleration problems if you use USB overdrive. It is simply unplayable.

I did more or less the same thing . . I used toplay on windows through Bootcamp, but after I had to get a new hard drive i was impatient to play so I just went ahead and installed on OS X . . Its so much slower! In windows I played on all medium settings, and on OSX I play on medium textures with everything else low. I really don't like the way the game looks below medium/medium textures/shaders, but oh well. I will definitely be re-partitioning soon so I can play in Windows again!

For those late 2009 Macbook Pros:
You have to activate the (high performance) graphics card by going to Energy Saver -> Higher performance.
I play under OS X and the game works really fine on "texture medium, everything else low" settings. I use Mouse Acceleration to fix the mouse and it is very responsive now with no acceleration :-)

With my 2010 13'' MBP I can play SC 2 perfectly with Bootcamp on middle details. The Mac Client is just terribad, much weaker performance! So I'm sticking with Bootcamp for a while . Furthermore the mentioned mouse acceleration problems make gaming under Mac OS impossible in my opinion. USB overdrive can't do shit against the bad mouse accuracy under OSX it's really sad.
Apart from that I have a important question: What are you gaming temperatures with your Mac, and which temperatures are safe under Bootcamp in your opinion? Sometimes I'm getting around 70 ° C degrees while playing SC 2 under Bootcamp. It's really hot and makes a little bit uneasy.

SC2 still doesn't run extremely well under OpenGL. I have a late 2008 unibody Macbook Pro with the 9600M GT running it perfectly on low.
My Macbook Pro routinely hits the low 90s high 80s when running SC2

I have an occasional issue on OS X where there will sometimes be lag from the start of the game until my scout reaches my opponent's base, but never in the first game after I start the client, and usually not as bad as what you're describing. My laptop is also significantly older, and I wouldn't even try to run it on high settings :p
Also, what's the problem with USB Overdrive supposed to be exactly? I've been running with it for a while now with no complaints. You can also disable acceleration in Terminal if you don't like the third party apps with this command: defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling -1 Requires logout to take effect, but afterwards removes accelleration.

I never installed sc2 on my mac partition since it works better for me to have games in XP so I don't get distracted when I need to work. It works very well for my brother, though. He has the newest MBP with the best graphics.
Mouse acceleration (the application) won't let you turn off acceleration, only USB Overdrive does it correctly.
