So, I pre-ordered SC2 at gamestop on march 10th. Recently, I discovered that supposedly if you pre-order from gamestop, you gain access to the beta. Now, I was mildly shocked at this news, seeing as when I initially pre-ordered the game, I was never told anything of this nature. Over the last month I have not received a phone call, e-mail or any notification of any sort that this deal existed. Last night, just before the store's closing time, I called to verify this offer. I was assured by the manager that if I were to come in today and ask for my beta key, I would receive it with a hi-five and maybe a hug. Today, after school, I took the bus to the mall 2 hours from where I live. In the rain. Without transportation home, as SEPTA is a horribly managed company.
By the time I arrived, things were looking up. I was anxiously excited as I approached the gamestop and the employee's friendly greetings, finally I would be able to partake in the beta shenanigans. However, after 12-15 minutes of nervously pacing the store, waiting for my beta key to be retrieved, I was told that the supply had run out, or that the computer's were not working properly. Needless to say, I was upset by this news. At no point did I get a single notification from the store regarding the beta key, and at the time I pre-ordered the game, the website said nothing of the sort.
Now that I have been gently brushed aside by gamestop, and now that I've stopped crying furiously, I can't help but wonder if all of this is somehow my fault. Should I have reserved my copy a month earlier? Should I have visited the store more frequently, perhaps I would eventually be told of this magical offer? I'm not sure how I should react here, should I contact Blizzard, Gamestop's regional manager, should phone the police? I distinctly recall being notified of previous betas after reserving a game, through either e-mail or phone. What's worse, I have the Edge subscription, which I had expected would make me a bit more of a priority than the customers who didn't shell out 20$ for a membership to the store.
I'm simply lost here, and would appreciate any advice or feedback. Also, as broken as this makes me seem, I am quite sarcastic, this is not the end of the world, I am just upset at either poor customer service or my own folly. Also I just got home after walking two hours in the rain. Also I should be playing SC2 right now, instead of brooding.

cancel your preorder and order at gamestop.com they send you an email within 24 hours with your beta code.. you need a credit or debit card tho... unless you buy a gamestop giftcard with cash and redeem it online.
worked for me!

The computers were down this morning. I tried to get a key and had the same issue. I preordered anyway, and they called me a couple hours later with a key (over the phone). Try calling that store location back and see if they have a key for you, assuming you're still preordered.

Just called, the manager says the computers are still uncooperative. I'm starting to wonder if they're actually out of keys and are just trying to stall me, but that is most likely just me being paranoid.

Yeah if you buy it online, they send it very fast. Also, if you and a friend order together, the code 25OFF will save you both more than 10 bucks on each copy.

Email gamestop? My buddy got back from them quickly.

My buddy pre-ordered the game for me for my birthday, apparently I should be getting a key.
He pre-ordered it last Friday and no email yet, concern?

My issue has essentially been resolved, no thanks to gamestop's representatives and their incompetence. My outlook on life is much less bleak

You should e-mail wherever you ordered the game from, and call the closest store to you just for good measure. Beyond that, I'm not sure there's much we can do but wait.

just get another $5 and pre order from gamestop again or get a friend to and get a key asap!! sorry for your inconvenience, looks like gamestop nerds just took advantage of you T_T

OP, all I had to do was read the word "SEPTA" in your post and I raged. I can understand your pain.

that sucks, btw where do you live?

One of my friends works at Game Stop and told me I had a beta key waiting for when I pre-ordered the game about 2 years ago (lmao). He ended up getting me 2 beta keys. Fuck yeah! (I'll end up giving the other one to a friend though).

I live in Philadelphia, hence dealing with SEPTA's bs. I'm moving soon though, to south jersey.
