We are living in very interesting times - on verge of the release of StarCraft 2.
Though a good number of players have been able to play the beta, and those less fortunate have been watching the streams and reading the news, StarCraft 2 still remains in the hands of our niche community. Though many may criticize StarCraft 2 for being too easy, or some fear StarCraft 2 may become too mainstream, the fact is that the beta is still under development and care by us. The legacy of Brood War, the years of waiting, our very first games, our very first tournaments, the rise and fall of progaming legends, and countless amazing events that define the community - all these nearly indescribable experiences are still part of our tight little community.
But soon, it won't be.
This is the community's timing window to reflect on all the experiences we've had with Brood War. How this game was went "beyond the game" in every sense of the word, and how somewhere along the way it became a bit more about the community than about the game. Take an example from Day[9] daily #100 and really sit back, and stare into space, just recollecting life and Brood War - you'll be surprised at how much emotion you invested into this seemingly ridiculous space-war strategy game which little Korean boys aim to master.
All the achievements of the community, all our experiences with our friends, family, and fellow TLers will soon be nothing more than
By continuing to give back to the StarCraft community, by continuing to be generous, share experiences, and have a positive impact to those online, we are continuing to solidify this legacy that precedes the reputation of StarCraft 2. StarCraft 2, after all, is just a computer game. What we are all truly waiting for is the evolution of the community into something much more. Something we must be sure to shape into a familiar but new entity that has been consistently been a positive impact on so many people's lives. A legacy of a community which formed many friendships, gave many laughs, shared many life struggles, and overcame them all. Isn't that something worth sharing with the world?
So it's up to us to show the newbies, the returning veterans, the ignorant bloggers and reporters, the interested parents, and the eight year old computer gaming nerd that this game revolves around an amazing community and legacy. For the sake and vitality of StarCraft 2 and the community, it's up to us to take all our recollected experiences and share it with a world that is going to be hit with what will be the sequel to one of the most influential games of all time.
It's up to us to make sure it lives up to its name.
