I had resented her and at times even hated her for the way she treated me and spoke to me. But what I had failed to see all this time was that she was prone to emotional ups and downs too, that she was also affected by events that happened to her, that she also knew how to cry and scream and yell. She was my mother, but she was also a person with a past full of details I'll never know of. This is one of the most important things you realize when you grow up. Parents are human beings just like you and they can't be perfect. I realized it few months ago and I also realized how selfish I was for seeing them as perfect. Great read. 10/10 I really liked it and you showed a really mature side of you.

... Actually, I believe everyone can relate to it. We all have issues with our parents while growing up, and only later we life that we can truly appreciate what they have done for us, all the love and care without expecting nothing more than a hug, kiss or a phone call.

Something similar happened in my life, my dad left when I was around 12 going back to our home country. I'd always thought that it was because of financial reasons and how it was too hard for him to support the family in a foreign country - that's what he said anyway. But later I found out that me and my sister had actually been raised on welfare, and mum never told us that it was because he had found another woman because she felt that it would ruin our innocence and affect our growing up and studying etc. It was quite hard to process because I had always looked up to him and saw him as morally perfect.
