Did you stimp? With that many medivacs you can probably afford to stimp and it increases your damage output a lot. Also by the time he has ultras you can probably be to at least 2-1 or 2-2. Maybe with that and slightly better unit positioning you'd fair better although we didn't see the game and see how far ahead/behind he is economically leading up to this.

This isn't SC1. Stop trying to play it like it is.

1. Tanks do less damage in SC2
2. Ultras have more HP
3. You don't have medics to make it harder for ultras to get to your marines
4. You have stimmable infantry with + bonus to armor damage, yet you are using none.
5. You have thors, yet are using none.

don't be a dick. i never claimed any imbalance if i thought it was imbalanced i would've posted it in the sc2 section and wrote a rage post about it.

Fighting 13 Ultras on open ground....not going to be a pretty picture any way you slice, and 1/1 @ 23 minutes into the game? You should have 3-2 or 3-3 by then!

yeah was a bit late on the upgrades but i think he had only 1-1 as well + the ultra armor and i was ahead on bases (very recently) so i thought it was ok to slack a little. guess not!

Doesn't Ultras have splash attack in SC2? Perhaps not having all rines in such a big clump would be better? :o

yep, i decided to go back to my base during this encounter and when i came back a majority of my army was dead. probably didnt help that my tanks were firing at frontline ultras and probably one hit ko'ing a bunch of my marines either. :D

This.

Ultras raped unstimmed marines that are behind on upgrades in SC1 also. It's just that you also had tanks/irradiate to clean up the mess. Tanks are different (not necessarily worse overall, but certainly worse against ultras), and Raven Hunter Seekers don't do nearly as much damage as Irradiate.

Ultra Splash will shatter pure Marine, sucks you had to learn the hard way. But theres a whole slew of issues with your SS (Get ready for some awesome backseat SC2'ing);

1) You have no Marauders, which is the bio counter to Ultras, even more so then tanks. Even just a small group with stim will shred an Ultra in no time.

2) You have 15 Medivacs? That's an insanely high number to me. Get some Ravens, Marauders, or at least something else with that gas. Even if you were planning on dropping, I don't think you'd need that many to try and kill his tech. Even if you only had 3 ravens at half energy, you could have thrown down 6 turrets for a quick wall.

3) Your tanks are in the open, why? Either cliff them in the middle of the map so they can shell, or keep them behind the walls.

4) 1-1 Upgrades won't get you very fair vs Ultras, I learned that the hard way as well.

if you do that they don't "overdamage" any unit, but they intelligently share the damage. If the first attacked unit would die from 3 hits, the fourth tank will already shoot the next attacked unit.
And all is illuminated.

Aside from the negative tone of this post he's 100% right. This is what I thought when I saw this OP. Ultras are so fucking bad in sc2 since marauders are around. Like it's literally a joke

yep except even if i did that in sc1 (a move 74 units directly into their hard counter) i could expect to at least come out even. i was taken by surprise but apparently everyone else knows ultras mow down armies 7x their size while only losing 5 units.
