So a while ago I got an Onkyo TA-W450 from a thrift store for like, $20. I did some tests on it with some blank tapes and it had no trouble playing them. I also opened it up to look inside and it was surprisingly clean. Both of the decks (dual deck) were also both quite clean aside from a little dust, and a disgusting muck-stripe on one of the pinch rollers.

So today I finally got around to cleaning it up a little bit more (can't be too careful when you're going to be ripping rare and expensive tapes) and I ripped 2 albums after running some more tests.
The first album was completely fine.
During the ripping process of the second album however, I noticed some horrid squeaking. I had no idea what it was, but I just let it keep going and finish ripping.
So then I put in 1 more album and really just couldn't stand the squeaking.

So I poked around inside and found out there's a problem with the capstan or something behind it. When I power the deck on it gives that horrible squeak from deck A in the general area of the capstan. From the inside of the deck I didn't really learn much. I've noticed that 3 parts in the area of the squeaking, including the capstan, move when I power it on.
One of them is a belt, the other's a little circle thing.. I don't know the name. But it seems to be linked to the belt in one way or another. It might be this "FLYWHEEL AS" identified in my service manual. I don't have scans of the manual unfortunately.

Either way after a bunch of mostly-useless information, I must ask; does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

TL;DR horrible screetching in my cassette deck around capstan area, what do

thx^^

Edit; forgot to mention that the capstan rotates just fine. the belt moves fine as well.

I've never used that brand of tape deck, though it sounds like something might be misaligned. Is the screeching a consistent pitch or does it vary?

Also, if you are ripping valuable tapes I would recommend using a reel-to-reel device. A little tougher to find these days but some diligence is well worth it. Plenty of people will trade those devices on craigslist, as opposed to cash only.

i thinks you should not use this... there is new devices made by man for listening to sounds without using old techs, can hold many many songs, even on electronic computer
