People used to say to me when I was young that you shouldn't fear High school. It is supposed to be one of the best times you will have in your life (after reading some threads relating to this topic, people tell me you have more fun in college but w/e). Well, I am not finding the fun part of it. In fact, I find high school to be very stressful. I have to juggle so many things all at once (Crazy assignments teachers give you in addition, the extra curricular stuff) and people (including me) in my age group deal with new emotions and feelings they have never felt before in their lives (Ideas and thoughts towards girls, money, values, life itself, etc,). As time in high school goes by, the tasks and commitments I am responsible for grows out of control... Normally I should be able to handle all this but... puberty is one tough cookie. And on top of all this, if you are an Asian like me, you would understand the pressure you would have to deal with from your parents (marks, university...).
I understand that the average age in TL is just above college(?). I want to hear people's stories about their high school lives, the kind of pressure they have faced, their goals and if they have achieved it or not, etc. I hope they will motivate a high school noob like me.
Man, stress thats supposed to be ez is getting to me these days. .___.

Well that's your problem right there.
By the way, highschool assignments are not stressful, at least not in the way college ones are. If you're stressed about them now you're pretty much shit up a creek in uni.

get a gf, girls ur age are probably more mature than u anyhow and will wisen you up pretty quickly
for example, my first gf cheated on me and then dumped me, saying I was her "boy toy".
join debate or Model UN, something where you'll learn be forced to read philosophy, you need to form your worldview.
do sports, or something where people get into a team and do shit with each other, because that's literally what life is about, getting together with your colleagues and doing deals or making the sale
just realize that 99% of the people are just as awkward as you, and you're nothing special, just another insignificant flea on this hairball of a planet

I thought that high school was the WORST time of your life and that university is kickass.
Which is true btw.

I had a horrible time in High School. I made no friends and every day was a depressing bore.

I agree. Highschool assignments are jokes.

highschool sucks cause you have less control than in college, and most of the people around you dont mostly dont give a f.... about whats going on.. so dont worry so much highschool for me was more stress full than college hang on and try to go with it once you are doing what you really want (in college) it will be better.
it is obious that college is harder but it has a different pace and meaning... some things are "hader" as they take a lot of effort to do but they are much more usefull and gratifiing to do than highshcool shit...
and highschool is not the best time of your life.. college is a million times better.. dispite it is harder.
highschool is just a step for college nothing more.. grades arent THAT hard to get...

I knew someone was going to say "you think that's tough, try university!" and it only took the first reply
I can't say much about the pressures except to try your best. If you break all the tasks down individually it's nothing you can't handle. In social situations the best is to put yourself out them more than you think you can, act confident even if you don't feel it, and pretend nothing bothers you. Basic, generic stuff but maybe it can help.

I went to a High school with a fairly weak academics, so you can take what I say with a grain of salt.
I am currently in university and find university to be much more stressful than high school. I think the main reason for this is because university is so much more difficult than high school.
When compared to my first year of university, I would say that I was more busy in high school. I juggled a full course load and 5+ extra curriculars, easy. This kept me busy most days into the evenings. However, I wasn't as stressed out because although there was a lot to do (which is mostly my fault with all of the extra curriculars), it wasn't crazy difficult.
When compared to my second year of university, I would say I was more busy in university. Full course load + 1 extra curricular. 1 assignment can easily take up the entire day, and into the night, and still be unfinished.
Fortunately, though I am Chinese, my parents never pressured me to be a hardcore student in order to pursue... medicine? However, I still adopt the mindset of, "what I do is never good enough and I should always strive to do better."
Again, this isn't as impressive due to the nature of my school and its students, but I graduated top of my class and am now studying Engineering. Maybe my parents used reverse psychology!
You may have to learn to embrace pressure, or not commit to so many extra-curriculars. Depend on how your life progresses, high school may be the one of the more relaxing times in your life so you should enjoy it!

My best years was 13-16, then high school and everything started to suck

High school was a blast i don't know what you guys are talking about.. You get everything served to you on a plate and if you try at all you can pass into college. If you are somewhat intelligent which I am sure most people posting here are.
Think about it. You live at home rent free, if you have a job it's part time and that money is just for buying food or weed or a new skateboard or whatever else. Your classes are pretty basic and if you study a little every day you can pass no problem. There are hundreds of people to hang out with at your finger tips, tons of hot girls and cool guys to potentially chill with. You get to meet tons of people while having everything paid for, what could be better than that? During the summer you probably work alot but that's all you need to worry about and if you don;t get alot of hours who cares?
When you get to college you have to deal with bills, IMPOSSIBLE classes, what you want to do with your life, super independent girls, extreme douchebags (much worse than highschool douches), finding a place to live, car problems, not dropping out, registering on time, paying your TUITION, doing well, not hating your life, doing dishes, making all your own meals, buying your own food, remembering to pick up extra shisha, running out of engineering paper, turing in that 25 page essay due next monday...
the list goes on and on.
Enjoy highschool it's a fuckin breeze.

My first couple of years in high school kind of sucked because I was in some accelerated classes with kids older than me and when you're already trying to get used to meeting a whole new crowd of people that doesn't help matters. I also was a puny kid who didn't hit his growth spurt till the summer between Freshman/Sophomore year so for that reason I didn't really enjoy any athletic success until my last few years of high school.
But by the time I was an Junior I was participating in Varsity sports (no longer a short, shy little kid), I knew most all the kids in my class pretty well and in general it was a ton of fun. I was a good enough student that I never had to deal with a ton of pressure from my parents about grades (by no means does that mean I got a 4.0 but getting mostly A's wasn't that difficult in high school so I was fine).
In the end once I got past the initial shock of a whole new experience and a ton of new faces it was a big positive. In retrospect, my senior year of high school was probably the most carefree time of my life - almost no responsibilities, school was still easy enough to where I didn't really have to exert myself to get by, and there was plenty of fun to be had. Once college started and it was on me to pay for my own education while I was getting it, as well as juggling other responsibilities it was WAY more stressful, although not necessary any less fun.
I guess it should also be mentioned that I went to an all-guy high school (there was an all-girls HS across the street though ), so a lot of the headaches that could arise during the school day didn't come up, although there were all the benefits after class got out.

Eh, high school was stressful at some parts but it always passes.
Just bite the bullet and keep trudging on. No biggie.
(I understand your situation well btw lol)

Dont underestimate the importance of sports/social activities. Oh and dont talk too much (any) starcraft.
|
Kids stress too much about dumb crap. Assignments and workloads will be a constant throughout your life so no point killing yourself over it. The secret to growing up is becoming comfortable in your own skin. Be secure with who you are and you'll naturally gravitate towards people you can get along with / become happy.

Fixed.
And honestly, who the fuck told you this? High school is known by many to be one of the worst times of your life.

I'm in high school... if it weren't for SATs and the general trying-to-get-into-college, it would be pretty kickass

you know that if your parents are asian, none of these things you white boys say applies for us right?

high school for me consisted of starcraft, drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol. I slept in class (If I went of course), copied my friends homework, cheated on almost all my tests, and made it to graduation and college with a 2.8 GPA. was easy shit.
College is hard as fuckkkkkkkkkkk
