My brother-in-law happens to be a police officer in a rather backwards US state south of the Mason-Dixon line. If you've ever chatted with a police officer you know they tend to have some stories concerning the various failures of humanity, but this one in particular caught my eye.
It wasn't the arrest, which was undetailed, but the name:
"La-a"
Now, I'm all for odd names for your child. Not "Peekaboo (Picabo) Street" odd, but things like Apple and Dweezil are fine (though Zappa's other child, Moon Unit, might be pushing it). However, I think this particular name is significant, in that it opens up a whole new vista of strange child names.
The name is pronounced: "Ladasha"
La dash a. La-a.
Clearly, the tunnel vision wrought by the cage of our mere 26-letter alphabet has prevented us from truly exploring the space of names! We have been doing them a disservice; we are failures to our children.
Why, look at the wonderful names we can make:
She! (shebang) ^top (carrot top) st& (stampersand)
I also have a certain fondness for the name '.pains', though I'm sure that would be troublesome later in life.
The possibilities are truly endless.

In a class I just took, my teacher's name was Sunshine.

I knew a guy named Ram.
We used to call him "Mb of"

Theres a guy in Ecuador named "Semen de los Dioses Bazurto Quesada", which basically means "Semen of the Gods Bazurto Quesada"
EDIT: on topic though, using punctuatino marks would be kick ass

My roommate told me of a girl he worked with one summer named Ab-aa (Abdashaa)

It took me a minute to get it, that's pretty funny. I just don't understand why some people give their children such eccentric names... But, where would we be without diversity?
|
I read that and think 'Lahyphena'.
It's dumb, but is it really as dumb as stuff like Jazmyn?

Ma~a
I'm a serious fan of Ma~
Can you imagine signing documents? You basically make "Ma" and then a long, squiggly line, which is EXACTLY what my signature is like now

Haha, thats kinda interesting, but I think I would despise to have such a name

They might be cute/funny as baby names, but babies have the bad habit of growing up.

There's a girl at the same school I go to, her name is also La-a.

However, I can assure you that I am indeed truthful and this did not come from anywhere but the filthy, filthy South. And my sister and her husband, who live there
