I thought about posting this in the SC2 forum, but then I thought about it again and realized it might (maybe, a little bit) be a rant, not a real post, so I'm just putting it here.
People: Starcraft 2 is not Starcraft:Broodwar. Yes, it's an RTS. Yes, it's an RTS made by Blizzard. Yes, it has three factions called Terran, Zerg, and Protoss. Yes, many of the mechanics and unit names and appearances will be the same.
No, that does not make it the same game.
I want to mention two complaints I've seen that are utterly ridiculous.
1) People wanting the current muta micro to stay in the new game. This is silly. I don't care if it's cool. Even if Blizzard does put it in, the game's likely to balance differently and it shouldn't be as useful: furthermore I would absolutely hate for SC2 TvZ to be defined by mutalisks for ever and always. So why do people insist on having it? It's not like it's an integral part of the game - it's a bug, discovered only a couple years ago. People could muta harass without it before, and will likely be able to muta harass in the future without it.
2) People griping about Terran no longer being all positionally set-up, slow push style. This is silly for two reasons. Maybe three. A. The lack of positional warfare in the battle reports is more than likely due to relative inexperience of the players, and lack of a clear metagame, etc. B. No matter how cool it is, the slow push is inherently weakish because it's slow and immobile - and in SC:BW, the MU where the pushes are used most is imba in favor of the other race. C (B.2). Once again, I personally hate playing Terran because they're relatively immobile. Terran commanders would be looking to solve this problem too, no?
And you know, people also keep talking about how this last BR looks like "the same stuff on both sides, it just looks different". To which I say - well, first, didn't you hear the commentator say how P's unit combo was bad against T? - but also, marine/tank vs zeal/goon is kind of the same. But let me repeat: SC2 does not have a metagame yet. Let that develop for a while and then you can really grouch.
I mean, it's good that people care about the game and are trying to help the pre-release theorycrafting, but "it's not playing like SC:BW" isn't theorycrafting, it's bitching.
One final personal note: the Thor is awesome. Giant mechs are inherently cool. It doesn't have to have a specific purpose: its purpose ought to be "bust up everything". It can be tweaked during beta until it does fit in nicely, but right now it's just there to look cool, and it does.

Thor looks awesome, but it seems like it's lacking something. (feels like a faster, portable Siege Tank though)

I disagree with everything you said.
Terran are so cool the way they are set up with position and slow pushing. SC2 has super high mobility units, so positioning will be pointless- when i can walk up cliffs, teleport, burrow while moving, zeal charge, no mines ect. what is the point? sc2 is going to be a game of harassment- because there is no way you will ever find a way to defend yourself from the peon vaporizing units all races currently have.
Basically turtle and send out your dedicated harass units, and then macro up an army and 1a to the enemy.
Thor is a pointless machine because its role has already been covered by other terran units. it does not look cool, nor does it function well. it's a big tonka truck piece of shit.

(not a single unit can move and shoot iirc) no david kim is not cute with a single tank and d ship harass in BR4. that is freaking nothing. Notice how all of the battles are just 1a

every battle report i've watched looks like a noob vs noob game in BW. i really doubt their even trying to find standard, just abusing parts of the game to find imbalance.

Tips for writting your next blog if you ever write one:
1. Make an interesting title. Don't write something that my first thought is "No shit" when I read it.
2. Don't make a post about something that has been brought up a lot, in the SC2 fourm people have already stated this.
3. No one is goning to take you seriously if you say "I don't care if muta micro looks cool, but it doesn't belong" and then say "omg Thor is so cool". Why is it ridiculous to want muta micro if it's cool? Why do you want the Thor?
4. Post something that you thought of yourself, don't tell us that SC2 isn't SC:BW, we aren't dumb we know that.
Also, how do you think a metagame is created? If we don't discuss, and create theories how does the game evolve? Did boxer sit in front of a computer and SC evolved instantly? It's never to start planning strategies to test when SC2 comes out.

Also, I'm sick of people bitching about how Zerg needs lurkers back in tier 2, and want scourge back. They're basically asking for the same tech tree as in BW.
