Hey, Im going to start a series of blogs about my 'escapades' on the battlegroup Bloodlust, aka BG9, in World of Wacraft. For those who dont know, WoW's 200-something US servers are split up into 13 battlegroups for PvP. A battlegroup is a bunch of realms that share arena and battleground participation, basically. BG9 is widely considered the most competitive US battlegroup. Arenas will be the main focus of this, as they are pretty much the only important aspect of WoW pvp. I know that a lot of people on this site dont exactly hold a high opinion of WoW, but I urge you to be open minded. While PvE doesnt require much skill at all, PvP arena does. Broodwar is by far and away a 'harder' game, and a ridiculously great game, but the skillcap of WoW pvp can get pretty high, especially at the highest level of play which is what Ill be covering.
====================
So I just transferred to BG9 earlier today from my long time battlegroup of Whirlwind, and its a stark difference. Whereas my Mage arena partner and I were the best priest/mage 2v2 on whirlwind, we're two noobs in a sea of players on Blackrock realm, horde side. I did manage to get me and Tenc (mage partner} an invite to the current top pvp guild in the world, , but its not that hard to get in to, they pretty much invite anyone who asks since pvp guild serve no real purpose.
Tenc and I found a rogue to round out our 3v3 team, rogue/mage/priest (RMP) almost immediately, and he's pretty damn good at that. Despite this, our first arena matches on BG9 went pretty badly... at around a 2300 arena rating, we ran into 3 seperate paladin/hunter/death knight (PHD) teams, which are a soft counter to RMP. we went something like 18-21, which pretty much sucks balls. A good team will usually win about 70% of their matches, and here we're under 50%. We could blame it on counter-comping, but I know better, this is BG9 bitches. Anyways, we need to improve our coordination and personal skill levels, but thats what we're here for isnt it? Interestingly, we fought Euneek, the best ret paladin in the world, and his team, but our rogue disconnected and it was a 2v3, so I died in a global (meaning I died in the 1.5 second 'global cooldown' of any ability, or basically got destroyed instantly What do you expect, best ret paladin in the world)
So 3v3 didnt go so well, but after that me and Tenc did some tried and true 2v2, and that went quite well, we went 5-1, beating some 2400 teams and one 2500 team. I guess me and Tenc are already very coordinated and versed in mage/priest 2v2, so we could play at our maximum. Right now Im sitting in front of Orgrimmar getting ready for some 1v1 duels, which I'll probably be at for awhile, getting my ass handed to me and such.
That basically sums up this entry, Im not looking to make these 'episodes' very long, just little updates and interesting tidbits for anyone who cares. Also, feel free to ask me anything about priest pvp or RMP or really anytihng about WoW in here, Ill answer.

what server were you in while you were in whirlwind? what's your exp as far as pvp goes (highest rating/title/seasons played)?
I remember the hype about BG9 since like, even before S1 was introduced. Quit like 2 weeks into S4 so I didn't really follow the scene except some excerpts of WoM
(also isn't BG9 really BG5 or something?)

I was on Hyjal in whirlwind. I just started playing seriously in late season 6, and my highest rating is 2467 in 2v2 this season. no titles
BG9's hype is deserved I think, its completely different from whirlwind so far. for comparison, Hyjal had 2 horde gladiators, neither of which were very good in my opinoon. this server has probably 200 or more horde gladiators, some of which are the best players in the world.
Im not sure about the bg5 thing lol

I thought Bg9 was the over-rated server with a bunch of arrogant bads who thought they were good...? That's what I remember at least.
Bg9 is Bloodlust, no?
|
BG9 is overrated its not like EVERYONE in the entire arena scene is going to be amazing... the BG9 hype really only applies to the very top of the ladders...
|
Yeah, Im not saying everyone on BG9 is amazing, Im just saying theres a lot more amazing players than usual and a rating on bg9 will usually be harder than the same rating on another bg.

back when I played when people would hit 2k+ on other servers they'd think they were hot sh!t and xfer to bg9 to get stuck in the low 1800s lol.
and vice versa some 2k+ bg9 would often come to other servers to get glad title and mount ezmode

Bg9 is Bloodlust, no? + Show Spoiler [according to players] + BG1 - Reckoning BG2 - Cyclone BG3 - Ruin BG4 - Vindication BG5 - Stormstike BG6 - Vengeance BG7 - Rampage BG8 - Shadowburn BG9 - Bloodlust BG10 - Nightfall BG11 - Whirlwind
Emberstorm and Retaliation never had numbers too new
BG9 or BG6 were where most of top PvPer use to play. Both are still good Battle groups
and then there's http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=4665466059&pageNo=1&sid=1#8 + Show Spoiler [Blue post] +When people say BG9 they're generally referring to Bloodlust, although technically Bloodlust is BG 5, not 9. BG9 is actually Shadowburn. :0 [...] http://www.gameriot.com/blogs/Battlegroup9/The-History-of-Battlegroup-9-Detailed-Version/ and inside that site: + Show Spoiler +July - August 2006 - Rumors of Cross Server BGs stir up, Easily assuming that the same clusters as the original 13 WoW servers will be in the same divisions, It was known before X-Server BGs were announced that Tichondrius, Blackrock, Frostwolf, Kil'Jaeden and the oceanic servers would be paired together.
This prompted the original BG9 chatter and the formation of the Battlegroup 9 WSG League.
Ghwrin and Vhell register every battlegroup channel from 1 to 10 on irc.gamesurge.net, BG9 forms. #battlegroup9 @ irc.gamesurge.net ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The history of BG9..... I'm 99% sure Kalgan is just lying to play down Bloodlust hype but BG9 = Bloodlust not Shadowburn. There's a difference between how the web team initially labeled them on the website versus their actual battlegroup number in the database. ;]
edit: ah and lolquote from ArenaJunkies in ~2008: However, any of them in the Face-rolling 5 are all extremely bad: Cyclone/Whirlwind/Reckoning/Retaliation/Emberstorm

Bg9 is Bloodlust, no? It was, except that the hype carried over and caused other good players to actually transfer there.

I played on Khaz'Goroth for most of my WoW life. Was never really much into PvP, though. :p
|
Little update, I played on a pretty bad 5v5 team with a raging shaman, mmr is 2k at best. Ew. Also played some 2v2 mage/priest with my other mage friend, went well besides being zerged by feral/rogue 3 times, the biggest counter to mage/priest there is.
Got wrecked in most duels as expected :D
|
I loved playing R/FD/P in 3s haha, such hilarious burst too bad we got stuck in the 2000s because WLD RMP and HRD were FOTM -_-
|
is RMP ever not fotm? more like fotbc&wotlk
fun to play but often quite frusterating from my point of view, especially since the healer is like the goalie. get sheeped once on accident, miss an opportunity for PS before a strang-> lolstorm, etc etc, and you instantly lose xD
edit, Ive never heard of HRD, Im assuming thats hunter/rogue/druid? that doesnt seem like it would work too well

HRD and WRD worked pretty well in bc
HRD wasn't very popular but HRP was played by Nihilum or something iirc it still stomped face hard
and yeah RMP is hard to play when you're not coordinated, lol esp. in bc when mages were only viable when you were nova'd lol.
and yeah I played a priest sooooo getting banged on by warrior+rogue or rogue+rogue was ridiculous to survive (thank god I ran RMP and WDP lol)

Well, it's about time you transferred to a real server. I started on Blackrock when I played wow years ago and it was rough from the beginning. Players like Ice rushed to become one of the first lvl 60 and then spent all his time killing everybody lower lvl than him for fun. The server went down a lot and we'd create pink-haired gnomes and raid Argent Dawn and yell Blackrock Down!

In all seriousness though, those of you still playing:
I quit a while ago, and haven't PvP'd in ages, is it still a gibfest? Are Protholy's still ridiculously OP in 2v2 and 3v3? is 5v5's Fotm still Euro (Which I believe is Disc/Ele/Beastmast/Destro/Rogue)? And is PMR still too stupid in 3s to the point that it's the only comp?

eurocomp was dpriest rdruid frmage sl/sl lock ssrogue back when I played priest followed rogue around to dispel/fear, lock mage raped a target and druid spam cyclone/roots/bearcharge countered by "cleave" or "trifecta" ssrogue warrior enh sham pal priest (originally, Serennia's nerd stompers team) or was it srogue warrior retpal rsham druid/dpriest can't remember
there was also uhhh, 2345 (warrior dpriest hpal elesham frmage) which had the lulziest name because ele shams were as easy as "2345" back in the days. 2346 was the variant where you swapped the mage for a lock to get more surv/sustained dmg
hmmm, drainpain? some gay name like that was sl/sl lock hunter dpriest rdruid and w/e else (warrior or rogue idk) or perhaps it was like, mace/imp hamstring warrior hpal dpriest sl/sl lock MM hunter for lolstuns bye bye mana
I doubt RMP is the same but back in S3-S4 it was really hard to fight WRD/WLD/shadowcomp (ua lock/spriest/rsham)

Hmm, my server is fairly clueless when it comes to pvp tbh, so im probably off on some of those team names..if i rememeber correctly when setup correctly against any other comp that 5s comp could do a potential burst of like 85k damage in like 1-2 globals...it was ridiculous, and why i stopped pvping haha .
Me(priest): Stunned .1 seconds later Me: Dead.
not fun >.<

eurocomp isn't really about burst it's moreso about CC and sustained dmg while dispelling other teams' buffs and your debuffs
cleave was just like...rape...completly raped eurocomp cause like, rogue would own the mage ez (with the priest following to dispel nova/armor it was so easy) and the warrior/sham would jump on the lock to keep him from doing any dmg. that made it so only the rogue could do dmg, and there was a druid to keep him from doing that exactly lol. all there is(was) to it is(was) auto-attack+dispel, insta win.
2345 was ridiculous man, bloodlusted frost mage + ele shaman if you were bad enough to get caught outside dispel LoS and inside nova you were pretty much done for.
there were a ton of 2dps comps in 3v3 that were ridiculous tbh, rogue rogue lock was one of them, 2 rogues on the healing lock on dots/fear it was over pretty quick WRD was a pain to deal with too, imp hamstring and skillstun was ridiculous, especially back then there was Stormherald, a fucking no CD 4sec stun that didn't share diminishing returns with charge/intercept/imp hamstrng so that made it very very easy for warriors to shit on you when there was a rogue around to CS/KS you rofl.
I ran WPD with a pro warrior who had lost his acc and started all over, he had like, 2p S3 3p S1 stormherald when we started and we took major dumps on everybody easily until 2200+ (but I was on a terrible bg so it doesn't really matter cause bg9 only matters amirite)
|
Haha don't remind me of Stormherald.
And now stormherald reminds me of Hemo/AR/Prep rogues back when macestun existed. THE PAIN! UGH.
