Anyways, I had decided that I would be Protoss in SC2, as my playstyle has changed in WC3 from agressive/low-econ to more security, to try and increase my consistency (which was always my issue in RTS games, I could beat an amazing player one game then lose to a newb the next) and well, Protoss in SC2 is just badass. Stalkers ftw!
The issue though lied with playing BW again, In the years from 1999 to ~2002, I played about 90% zerg, 9% Protoss and 1% terran, but since I wanted to start learning the movement and feel of Protoss for SC2, I played my first season on Iccup as protoss. It helped that this was during the glory days of Stork/Bisu, so almost all the pro VODs were focused on Protoss, giving me lots of insight into how the race was played.
Now, as Protoss, I played about 1000 games over the past 4 Iccup seasons, and at the end of last season, I just kept feeling how awkward and weird feeling Protoss still is for me, while I can go months without playing zerg yet it still feels so 2nd nature to me. Its an odd thought, but I think you grow attached to some races, and they just become like the back of your hand, and I definitely believe that I was meant to be a zerg player for BW.
So, I decided that this new Iccup season, I would start playing zerg again. Rusty of course, not knowing any newschool builds, Its a struggle right now, but I can win games by doing totally retarded builds, just by pure gamesense. The only somewhat issue I seem to have, is having to learn this whole "macro-based" zerg style, since I missed the Savior days, My biggest idols were the likes of Yellow and Chojja, using low econ builds to outsmart their opponents, but It definately feels nice to know that when I build zerglings, I am 100% confident in my micro with them against any opponent, Something that I definately wasn't sure of with Dragoons/zealots.
My point I guess, is to remind people that you should always stick with the race you learned to love, even if you feel a switch is mandatory due to any factor (imbalance, coolness, etc) because chances are, all those thousands of games played give you an ability with that race that is just not 100% transferable to another race. I can't explain it, I just know its there.
(I still plan on playing Protoss 100% in SC2, but I have the thought in the back of my mind, if I struggle with them, I might resort back to "what I know"; being Zerg. doh)
