The way a community operates is that you give back what you have taken..since i cannot give anything starcraft related, i could however donate, if there were such a feature.

The last thread i could find was about 3 years old, i have no idea how much TL.net costs to run, and i have no idea how it's funded either, but i think it would be a good way for a lot of people to give back to the community what they have taken from it. Without this site i'd have quit starcraft after a few weeks, and never have known about the pro-scene, i feel i owe a lot towards the site, because it's a great time killer.

I'm not talking about donating 100's of bucks, but little donations from a lot of members would surely add up.

I wouldn't ask for a different icon, or a donaters section etc.

Don't know if the funders even need the extra money but i'm sure it'd help in funded future endeavors that TL.net may like.

PS; i donate a small amount each month to another community site, as do 100's of others, it eases the payments they have to make towards the servers and allows them to rent faster servers etc. so far it's had a very positive reception.

tl:dr; Should TL.net have a donation section?

The ads (mostly the Google ones that don't show up for members) cover the server costs, Liquibition prizes, etc, so there's no need to donate. Just make good posts. :p

You can buy a shirt or two if you want though: http://www.teamliquid.net/store/

^^I like how you did a ninja edit just to add the face, XD

I would donate. I think TL has saved me a lot of money by causing me to play mostly Starcraft which is free. Otherwise I would have bought new games.

Like most community sites that can cover their bw with a couple ads, any donated money will be spent on things like beer muffins and pretending we are legit by renting an office. Just be a good poster ^_^!

These guess are full of shit. PM me your banking info and you can donate directly to the #1 moderator. Every $100 allows you to give a 1 week ban to anyone you choose, twice a month.

And, for a limited time only, I will throw in a second 1 week ban, ABSOLUTELY FREE! That's right, you not only get the satisfaction of donating me beer money, but you get TWO of our world-famous bans absolutely free.

These are the same bans that have triggered such cult followings as "teamliquid sucks", the "Mods in Heat" blog, and coined the phrase "Stimey Rage". Own your piece of history now for the low price of 199.99 (+shipping).

^^Someone needs to tell Nitrogen about this. Or Tuna.

Edit: Oh crap, if we get the ban package can we give you a specific message to put as the ban reason? I would say something like "Next time I see a noun in one of your posts this one is permanent."

It would be so hard for them to get any kind of message across. XD

I've donated about ~75 dollars through joke ads. lol

If I was rich, I would sit at home making fake ads all day.

Fake ads are so fun to make. And once the initial crush wore off they became pretty cheap.

if we would allow this why wouldn't we just have mani make a blog and ship it directly to his paypal

oh right, it wouldn't involve you as the middle man for extra paypal transfer fees and shady off the top skimming

Now that SC2 is out and the community has grown quite a bit larger (and thus the server strain has increased), do the ads still cover costs completely? I've often thought about donating to TL since I get so much from this site, and so I just wonder if what was said here pre-SC2 still applies today.

I already did. I like it. It's one of my favorite shirts, mostly because it's one of very few I have that fits me properly.

I can't speak for admins, but I think putting out content that promote TL is more valuable than sending a few bucks. Making a good thread helps a lot
