I frequently watch streams of Starcraft, which I'm sure many of you here do as well. What I've noticed is that more and more we are seeing non-starcraft streams being listed (even in featured streams).
StarCraft 2 and Brood War Live Video Streams
Many players like to stream their games of StarCraft as they are playing, often with commentary. Below you will find a list of all streamers that are live right now on Team Liquid. Nothing to watch? Check out the Official TL.net Channel, streaming classic games 24/7. To discuss a stream, please use the discussion thread link available in each stream, or click here to view all stream discussion threads.
This quote makes me think that the original intention of the streams page was so that live SC content could be easy to find. This is becomming much more difficult to do.
I went through 121 streams (just the ones I saw online now to get a random sample). I would click the stream link. I took screenshots of all the stream links on the stream page. If the stream was showing a game other than Starcraft or Broodwar, I would put a red X on that persons stream. I had to do this manual check because even if SC2 was listed under the persons name, quite a few times they were streaming a different game.
Here are the results:
Streams streaming Starcraft and related content: 70
Streams streaming other games: 51

I bring this up because I want teamliquid to continue to be a site where people can find live Starcraft content to watch. I hope this raises awareness of this issue and opens up a discussion on addressing this issue.

but this does not affect the stream page, correct?

Correct, it would not. You could click [Show 101 non-featured] to have a sorted list but the actual Live Streams page is not sort able to the best of my knowledge.
If my post was unhelpful then I do not understand what was requested. You can sort the streams and filter them just as he asked. You can still view the complete, unfiltered list by clicking on Live Streams (which he documented). Win win?

Sorry I didn't mean it to come off like that. I actually agree with you and I've had my sidebar settings set like that for a few months since the option was available.

Didn't mean it that way at all, my apology for your apology.

1) People aren't using the sidebar setting properly, so it there are bunch of false positives.
2) The ratio of non-SC streams to SC streams is increasing. Wouldn't it just work out better to list SC2 streams separate from the other games since people don't label their stuff properly?

How would a separate section for SC2 streams help if people don't label their stream correctly?

I am kinda on board with this. It seems people are using TL as just a "Stream advert site" for whatever they happen to be playing at the time.

Well TL is becoming more of a Gaming site than a purely Starcraft site, you just have to look at the Sports+Games sidebar to see what I mean. I don't see this as a bad thing, but I can understand why people wouldn't want it.

The main point of the OP seems to be that he believes SC streams may be hard to find among the hordes of other games. I don't really agree with that. As long as you filter the sidebard it shouldn't be an issue, even with the issue of mislabbed streams. During your test, there were what, around 5 streams labbed as SC2 while streaming other games? And they are ussually not featured streams. It's an issue but I don't find it that annoying, if you are looking around the unfeatured streams you are ussually ready to go around checking a few streams anyway.
The overall list of stream could also have some filters and be better organized, but I feel that's a diferent issue.
The there's the whole discussion about the "purity" of the streams section. TL is a Stacraft website, but it's also a community website, made by it's members for it's members. That's also why we have diferent forum sections. Some people basically don't even post in the Starcraft sections at all, either because they stopped playing/watching it or even because they simply joined because they liked the communities TL represents in other games, be it Dota, EVE, LoL, etc, but they are still part of TL. Having streams of diferent games on TL just makes it so much easier to keep track of tournaments/players. I personally enjoy not having to keep checking several websites just see what's online and I don't really see the problem for people that don't care about other games, after TL added the stream filters. This seems more like something people dislike simply because they want to keep TL as SC only than something that actually makes their use of TL more dificult.

Yeah, this is definetly part of a larger discussion on TL's direction. Esports is a more than just Starcraft these days and it's going to get a lot more diverse, and I frankly hope TL keeps diversifying too. There's some very interesting things happening in the competitive PC gaming world right now, it'd be a shame if TL wasn't a part of them.
