Well, it takes a while to understand how the community works and what is considered acceptable here and what is not. If we allowed people to report right off the bat I suspect we would get an overwhelming amount of worthless reports where people report personal attacks and other non-actionable issues.

A year, though? That doesn't seem like the optimal length of time.

I mean, if you can't figure out what to report and not report after eight months I don't think you'll ever figure it out.

1) TL didn't want too big of an influx of people issuing reports at one time so it wasn't in anyone's best interest to set the criteria too loosely.
2) If you stay at TL long enough to access the report feature then you will understand why TL wants to be a bit more strict about this than other sites are.

By the way these are completely speculative but I have no idea why you are complaining anyway.

didnt know there was a restriction for this though since id been around that long when it was implemented. so thx for teaching me my thing for the day

It may be arbitrary but it better then nothing, it also prevents people who just is active for 3 months after getting sc2 and feels like a big shot from being able to report someone when they call him an idiot in his blog pertaining to how good he is in sc2.

Maybe because it makes it a pain in the ass to benefit the community? I guess if I were amazing at sc or had triple the free time there would be more ways I could do that, but you work with what you've got.

Understand that you're an exception.

Thank you for helping us out but I don't think most March joinees would handle the privilege well. The fact that you go out of your way to PM mods shows that you're willing to put extra effort in, which is great but I think most people wouldn't (and don't).

There is no optimal length of time for this kind of thing. Our choice is more exclusive, but it's done with purpose.

Keep writing those PMs. PMs that give a little context and understanding to the complaint are way more valuable to mods anyway than the semi automated reports.

I think what he means is... a pm allows for the reporter to go into more detail than a small 'reason' field but he can correct me if there's something else to it.

What about 7 months and 28 days, or 7 months and 27 days, or 6 months and 2 days? Obviously some people will pick it up faster than others, and others won't. One year is a rather easy baseline to go by for an automated system. It also gives the mods time to know YOUR name and trust your posts.

I can't report people with icons / red names / the new blue bars.
Is there a reason for this?
