1st part: Life Troubles + Show Spoiler + So my second year in Uni is struggling with many stuff that i have never thought of: housing, cooking, courses to choose and worst of all, Job. After 1 year stay in Residence, i find myself hard to find a room for rent off campus. Its not because that there is none available or anything but moving from Res to off campus is a whole new level of cleanness. Being a gamer, im not proud of myself about how clean i live but there was a place i visit recently with 3 girls living in the basement. I was so surprise about the number of empty beer boxes i found in front of the house. Dont let me mention the washroom + kitchen... I have been around places and most of them are same. Is that some thing common where housemates dont want to keep the common area clean?
Cooking is, on the other hand, something i enjoy the most. No cafeteria, back to some south east azn foods mix with some juicy coconut milk occasionally lemon/orange juice is undeniable. But cleaning all of those after cooking/eating is just brutal. Its irony since i just complain about it but seriously, i HATE doing dishes. Mom gave me some tips with hot water but its not about it. It just ugly when you cant spend time resting after a full tasty meal. So i always do my dishes like 5 hours after aka. when the next meal start. Which when all of the dirt dry out and sticky and harder to clean. At time like that, i just shout out "FML" and pick up my wallet and eat out... One of the main reason for my money run low and buy sc2 1.5 week late :<
Well if that enough for house chores, school work is not even easy. I missed the first enrollment appointment and have to enroll at the free section and find out 1 of my requirement courses is full. I am now on the waiting list for that course and have a chance to pay my tuition late and pay the "late fee", all bc that course was not in my requirement list last semester. The faculty made a slight change in the requirement courses and i was not aware of it...
Job? It is the hardest problem i have in life, ever (if not counting the plan i made to live separate from my parents which i had successfully completed). As an international student, i have to spent the whole summer to finish all the paper works in order to work in Canada... And then find out its almost impossible for a none coop-student to find a job in their field b4 they graduate. Reason? The market is full of coop students already. They have a Department stand out and help them contact the companies, teach them how to write cover letter + resume, how to do an interview while us have ourself. In case you lucky find a job, it would be just some kinda lame one which cant be compare to a coop job in both term of salary and field related... Dang! only if i have not forget the deadline to submit my plan change from regular to coop... I was a dummy 1st year, what do i know?
Starcraft2: PvZ + Show Spoiler + well now i have to say PvZ is the hardest match up for me atm. Same as the fellow Protoss, we have a constant fear for muta lings into ultra late game. luckily, most of the games i played recently are PvT or PvP so i suddenly got a 8 wins streak :D (hvnt play 9th yet, will after this blog). But i have put lots of thoughts on PvZ these days:
1/ Wall: well as this point most of you have to agree with me that there is no way we can PvZ on 1 base. FE is something we must do just like back in BW in order to not stay behind in mid game. so how should we wall or nature?
Most of you will answer me: 2 gates pressure into forge... hmm i will have to say no. When i first see the 2 gates build Orb vs Idra in the HDH invitational on BS, I was like: What is the different between 2 gates proxy Protoss classic cheese? Nothing! Its only gv you another wall and the chance of him running over you with out number speedlings or roaches when you put down the forge is always there. Else he just double expan and out number you before you even have your 1st stalker out.
Lots of pros have experience this and came up with 1 gate forge... well, i dont know how does it work out for them but certainly not for me. Therefore i have choose Forge FE classic BW style.
About Forge FE: 9 pylon 12 forge scout
now depend on map you will choose your next move. as short distant like steppes, 6 pools is not impossible. how you counter it? 1 pylon in main 3 probes block ramps and 1 cannon in main => solved.
now if its a 14-13 pool, you have to watch the larva counts: if he is saving up larvas when pools is about to finish, build 1 cannon, else just get a nexus then cannon. there are times you would get away with nexus gate cannon if he tried to be greedy.
how does this gona work? well the biggest weakest of this build is lings runby. on maps like metro with wide open nat, you need some GOOD cannon and pylon placement to block this. I cant provide images since i dont have time go through all my replay but you want to check out HuK vs dimaga games. the key is try to use your nexus as part of the wall instead of wall to protect your nexus. the wall will be pylon->forge->gate->nexus->pylon->assimilator most of the time. try to wall with at most 2 cannons since the 3rd one will put you FAR behind if Zerg taking his 3rd base.
Transition: i will most likely recommend you go air heavy such as phoenixes or VRs. Most likely phoenixes since the provide fast scout so you can spott the 3rd base if needed. Zerg getting 3rd: keep pumping air since hydra will be delayed as his 3rd going up. if Z not getting 3rd try to macro up to get tier 3 and run over him, keep phoenixes count as 3 or 4 just for harras while scouting his tech pardon.
Last comment: it requires lots of practice and most likely everyone would fail first time they try this build but believe me, this is the future of PvZ =)...
side note: cannon rush with wrap prism need to be used more. On lost temple the cannon on top + bottom base high ground areas can hit hatches at nat but right and left hand bases cant. =P

Roommates are almost always disgusting creatures that don't keep things clean. You have to specifically choose people you know keep things clean or you're pretty much boned.
I have no idea what you're talking about regarding needing to FE against zerg in sc2. You don't.

Let me guess... Waterloo?

Unfortunately it's called living independently and figuring out that there are a lot of responsibilities (many which you don't realize until you're out on your own away from parents or any type of guardian) that go along with it.

I fucking hate doing dishes. One tip is to get a gf and make her do the dishes after you cook (what I do). Other thing is to always put water on your dishes after you eat so it doesn't get all crusty and crap, especially leftover cereal/granola and anything baked with cheese.
|
Dishwasher isn't a very fun expense but seriously, I couldn't imagine living without one. It was a top priority for me when I got my appartment even as a poor student.

i think pvz is ridiculously unbalanced for most players. speaking as a zerg player, you need to use specialized units like phoenix/dt to gain the upper hand in this matchup. use phoenix to severely supply block your opponent while you try to gain the upper hand in numbers rather than tech. also capitalize on most zerg's players lack of detection in this matchup for DT abuse, esp against spine crawlers, and esp against expansions. gl!

imo forge FE is very inferior to 10 gate then forge because it literally allows z to take 3 bases if he wants to like in BW and drone up like crazy. You need some sort of pressure to follow every one of your expos in the game or you just give him too big a window to drone.
|
On ladder maps, I honestly think Forge FE only works on Lost Temple, because you can wall pylon/forge/cannon/pylon on LT. Put your gateways and cybercore behind that, and it'll be impenetrable even by a baneling bust. You do have to stay on your toes, and push out as soon as you have a solid warpgate army, since, if the zerg double expands, you need to exploit the window where your army size is greater than his because he's focused on drones. Other than Lost Temple, zerg has too many options to deal with Forge FE. If you want an early expo, go for 2gate pressure, or maybe even a 4gate into an expansion, it usually works better.
I also have shied away from phoenixes in PvZ, just because it's such a huge economic investment in what usually turns out to be a macro war.

Man Forge FE is just begging mutas to come ruin your day. You're going to end up spending so much on cannons that you'll be behind in the mid-game, anyway.
Get some pressure out and force Z to spend larvae on something other than a million drones.

thanks for replies folks xD
yeah im in waterloo and dish washer is impossible to get as a student RENTING a room. its just super expensive.
about the forge FE, i believe it give you better chance to get nexus up earlier and by the time your wrap gate is done, you will have +2 attack 75% done. In my opinion 2 bases P is not far behind vs 3 bases Z since P has lots of AoE tier 2 like storm and colossi and once +2 kick in, things become quite easy.
Lost temple is the easiest one to wall but the other map requires creativity, of course for some map like Desert Oasis it is impossible but on most map, i believe it is really good to get forge b4 gate in most situation. Again, cannon positioning is crucial so keep that in mind. The only thing can screw this up is early muta or nydus. Muta can be counter with phoenixes and nydus is easier to handle since you dont have a complete wall off so zealots can go back in base and defends.
I still open 2 gate on scrap station btw :D...

you're assuming zerg is going to pressure you. they're not. zerg will macro like crazy while you spend resources on tech or even FE. they'll know exactly what you're doing because you have no stalkers to chase away ovie.

Man, I go to your university too, woman-up and do some dishes =) It sucks, I know, I ended up eating out all the time too, but cooking at home is so much cheaper.
As for job hunting, what program are you in? It's really tough for most people to find a job first year, but don't give up. A co-op job is worth it.

About dishes ... you really need to do them right after you use them or else they can get 10x harder to wash. You also cannot leave a bunch of dishes there for more than a day or else things will start to smell bad with bits of food soaking in dirty water. I used to hate doing dishes but after awhile it almost becomes a relaxing thing to do (especially if you keep up with it because it = a clean non-smelly sink).
