At least its going to seem like 500 hours. I'm currently at the Chicago airport. I just got off my flight from Boston. Now I'm gonna take a flight to Narita, then from there to Kaoshiung (Taiwan). Its gonna be a loooooooong trip. I hope I get wifi to browse TL.
I'm going to taiwan for family. I usually go once a year to see friends, grandparents, other relatives. This is my last summer before college starts so my mom wanted me to go back this one (hopefully not) last time. Taiwan is going to be fun regardless of internet. Lots of AMAZING FOOD and of course 50cent bubble teas ahhhhhh can't wait.
Ill be in Taiwan for a month with no laptop... only my phone. How will I survive?!?

Can you put some content in this? Like why you're going to Taiwan or what you're planning to do there? Right now it's "I'm in the airport. I am going to Taiwan. I will not have a laptop for 2 months."
Thank you!

Haha sorry Chill. It takes a while to type on my phone. Let me edit.

Well, at least you could go to internet cafes to use the computers there. Maybe even find other TL people in Taiwan!

+ Show Spoiler +Nah it becomes more manageable.
yeah but my trip to China was kinda fun, lots of relatives. Make sure to pack everything you need. If you go anywhere rural, lots of insect spray.

what is the actual travel time including layover?
|
If this is your last summer before college, this will be your best one. This will be the one summer where you will have nothing to worry about, no SAT's, no AP's, you already got into the college you want.
Alas this will be the only summer where you will have truly nothing to worry about. Make the best of it and have fun!

i often recommend some good noise canceling or noise isolating headphones.

I lived in Kaoshiung for a year and have relatives all around the country, but I haven't been back in a decade and a half. Have fun, avoid the motorcyclists, and enjoy some bean-flavored ice cream!
|
Stay away from stinky tofu! Some street side vendors use human feces to marinate the tofu!
|
And the good ones use vegetarian stuff to marinate, producing gorgeous tofus. Just a matter of where you go eat.
Why did you fly to Kaoshiung instead of the Taoyuan international airport then take the express train down, lol. So much more comfortable that way and avoids waiting a year at Narita. Anyhow, last time I was at Narita they have decent wireless service from bongodo or whatever that provider was called again.
50cent bubble tea be godly, I want some good place to open up on East Coast. At the moment all I have is Tenren T.T

I love the moment before I get on a flight because I always wonder who I'm going to sit beside. Here's my track record in Asia:
- Korean couple who were largely making out the whole time [enjoying last moment of freedom before returning to their emotionless home]. Terrible. Didn't talk to them at all. - Old Korean grandfather. He slept the whole time. Terrible. - Korean couple. Was awesome, I talked to them the whole time. They loved to drink, so we drank. Was my first experience where my Korean was better than someone's English. - I REALLY hoped I would sit beside someone who was Japanese. I could use this time to get oriented and get suggestions on where to go because I had zero plans before going to Japan. They sat me in the emergency exit row. In North America, the emergency exit row fills up first because there's more leg room. In Asia, it fills up last because they think it's more dangerous or some shit. The entire plane is filled, every seat, except the emergency exit rows. 11 empty seats around me, and mine. Fuck. - Emergency exit row again. Same 11 empty seats. - I sat beside the cutest (looks and personality) girl ever. She was like 20 and had never left the country and had never flown. Everyone was wearing shitty clothes because it's an 11 our flight. She was in the standard Korean girl outfit. The plane was taxiing to the runway and she tapped me on the shoulder and said "Excuse me. Are we flying now?" Hahahahaha my heart melted. When I got off the plane she looked so confused. I said nice to meet you etc. and tried to leave but she said "wait, let's please go together". Oh my god what a cutie haha. I had a connection so I don't know what happened to little miss pink coat :D
Other notables: - Young [12 years old?] boy who threw up beside me during take off. I couldn't stop looking at the bag slowly leaking fluid on his tray and filling up. He spent the flight bragging to me about his house and all the places he had been. - Fat man sitting in the emergency exit row. He was spilling over into my seat so badly I was fully leaning away from him. Fortunately it was a 45 minute flight. I guess when you get to that size you just stop giving a fuck about trying not to inconvenience people. - Angry asian man claiming the full arm rest in a way I couldn't rest my arm without touching his. After he went to the washroom I held my arm on that fucking arm rest the entire flight out of spite. Fuck that guy. - Old man asking me what I was reading. I explained it was about basic string theory and briefly explained what that was. He told me during his retirement, he had started studying basic physics and it all started from asking his friend "Why are there so many exponents in basic formulas?" Super cool and friendly guy. We talked the whole flight. - Cute girl talking about university experiences. During last 5 minutes she casually brought up her boyfriend. What a tease. - Asian girl who watched me play third strike for like an hour. I never said anything to her and she never said anything to me. I'm really bad at randomly starting conversations haha.
Those are the memorable ones. I love that moment you get on the plane because in that moment anything can happen. Your next 11 hours could be super interesting, or boring and uncomfortable beyond belief.

Haha it's funny you remember all of them so well because I can't remember any of my long trips and I've only been on 4 of them (counting round trip as 2). I guess it's because I go into it thinking "ok I'll try to sleep 2-3 hours, I can listen to this this this and this album and that'll take up 3 hours, maybe I can watch in-flight entertainment for an hour, and stare out the window for an hour, then it's over." If I remember to, nex time I'll try to be receptive to my neighbors and see what happens!

Oh! Well, it depends on the plane, but 80% of the time there will be a hot asian girl sitting next to you if your going back to Asia. So if your the type to start up conversations, you could get .. a gf o_o.
Sadly, i'm not the type to start up conversations, and I always get hot asian girls sitting next to me, even though I don't believe in god, I now think he's just teasing me D;.
