Hello TL
I found a crazy cheap WoW account on Craigslist ($15). It had some level 50+'s, but more importantly I want to use it to have 2 entries into the SC2 beta.
I want to make sure I don't get screwed in any way here. I have my phone where I can change the e-mail/password on battle.net and not worry a bout a keylogger.
What about authenticators? Is there a way to see if a account has one or not, or do I just have to take the guys word for it?
Any other holes I need to plug to make sure he can't steal the account back?
Thanks!

He can always mail blizz that his acc got hacked and they will give it back to him if he has all info needed and wont ask u a thing.im 100% sure bout that unfortunately

When you get the account change the birthday and security question if possible. When people sell accounts and try to just get them back by calling customer service they're asked on either of these two things.
Normally people are pretty legit on these things, at least if they're in the business. If it's just some random person selling shit then there's a higher chance of them trying to screw you, but people that do it for a business have a reputation to keep.

I'm pretty sure he can ninja back the account at any point as he's got the original CD key needed to create the account in the first place (which he can keep a copy of, even if he gives it to you), as well as being the person registered to the account (you have to link it to your name and adress, which can be used to retrieve the account). He'd also have the secret question and answer, which I'm not sure can be changed, that lets him get his account back. Finally, he also has the original e-mail adress which contact to blizzard to retrieve accounts is made.
If you want a WOW-account, buy a physical copy of WoW for the what, 20$ it costs these days (expansion upgrades needed, of course) so you won't get randomly ninja'd later on. There's probably an option to create an account on the WoW site without actually buying a physical account as well I bet, although I reckon the price will be pretty much the same as buying the physical version.
Anyhow, bottom line - if you buy an old account, you are likely to be ninja'd, and also, if anything ahppens to your account (hacking, whatever), Blizzard cannot help you without the original owner contacting them, as he's the original owner, and account-trading is pretty illegal.
Anyhow, more importantly:
but more importantly I want to use it to have 2 entries into the SC2 beta. Do all WoW-users automatically get a beta-account, or are you just trying to get a double opt-in?

Yep, user who sold the account only has to say...
"Hey Blizz! My accounts has been haaaazizzzacked! HALP!"
"Sure, but can you confirm some security info?"
"You bet!"
Info confirmed, he gets account back, and you're fucksed.

Maybe you could start by not discussing things against Blizzard's terms? I know bans have been thrown out left and right for discussing similar things, very recently.

Yeah I thought about this. But the account seems like it's more re-sellable, and I will get to try out WoW at level 50+. I never had the patience to make it past 29 before.
I will more than likely buy a few D2 keys tho !

True. But I will make sure and change the contact info before I leave.

you can't change the name that's registered to the account, just the address / telephone number.

Do you have a friend with huge muscles that'll come with you? Tell the guy you'll kick the shit out of him if he tries to do anything sketchy. Problem solved.

You can't change the name. If all else fails, he can get his account back by providing proof of identity. I had to do that before for my account

Even if it is only 15 bucks, why take the risk when its so easy for him to take the account back?
|
if you were planning to play the game, what could happen is he could take his account back anytime, so after you've invested hours upon hours of time, he could just take everything as his, and there's really not much you could do about it.
|
Don't buy an account, people are way too evil. They'll take it back someday.
|
Never buy a wow account. Ever.
Chances you get scammed are incredibly huge, all they need to do is enter their secret password or email blizzard their account information + picture of the wow cdkey, say they got hacked, and blizz just gives it to them.
This is obviously a scam, don't bother.

itt: no trust in humans
Diamond, just wait, opt-ins are too random you should crack it to play vs AI to relieve your sc2 hunger.

Not a life a life obviously.

Alright you guys have convinced me !
I'll just pick up some D2 keys....
