I had my first Eagle today while playing golf. For those who don't know, an eagle is a score of -2 on a hole, whereas a birdie is -1, par is even, and a bogie is +1.
My neighbor suggested I go play with him on a 9 hole course a couple of towns over. It has a bunch of short par 4's and a few par 3's. On the first hole, I was standing in the middle of the fairway waiting for someone else to hit when the sprinkler turned on, directed right at me from like 7 feet away. I got BLASTED. Luckily, it was a hot day, but it messed me up pretty hardcore and I couldn't hit the ball for crap.
A couple of holes later, I was finally starting to feel better, and then a group cut in front of us. They told us the group ahead of them on hole 1 was extremely slow and the ranger and invited them to skip to hole 3. So I was pretty ticked off about that also lol.
Then I calmed down and had a couple of pars (both up and down), and a couple of bogeys that were NEARLY pars ._.
Hole 9 is a 315 yard par 4 but there was a temporary tee which chopped off 30 yards or so. I took my driver (which had been pretty fail before that since I had no practice earlier) and hit a good shot slightly left of the pin. I figured it was on the fairway just short of the green, but it had actually rolled up on to the green and settled 30 feet from the pin. I am lucky the group who was STANDING on the green at that point didn't kick my ball off lol. I must have misjudged the distance since I didn't think I would reach the green.
My putting had been pretty crappy, and the greens were pretty terrible, but I managed to sink the putt, which was a straight line (thankfully). It's funny how I make the eagle but miss the 1-2 birdie chances (by chance I mean less than 20 foot putt).
So LemonWalrus, that King Cobra s9-1 did the job!

Congrats.
For the life of me, I can't understand why people seem to enjoy golf. It's difficult and not exciting, at least to me.
Any hole in ones on par 3/4's yet?

It is very exciting. What are you talking about!?
True, it's difficult. But so is SC.

Well the extent to which I've played golf is going with my P.E. class in high school to a driving range. Also putt-putt. Putt-putt kicks ass, especially if your friends are totally shit faced and do things like try humping the plastic animals.
But regular golf just seems...boring to me. It's probably because I haven't actually played golf as it's supposed to be played, but it just looks boring. I probably shouldn't knock things before I try them though haha.
A side note: I happen to live in Carmel Indiana and we just hosted the U.S. senior open :D

Nothing is more exciting when you hit a ball really far or right near a pin. And the holy grail of golf, a hole in one, is a life-changing experience unlike anything you get in most other sports. And that's BEFORE you consider the possibility of an albatross.
Suffice it to say, I was very excited when I saw my ball was on the green.

I also was a standard bearer in the lightpath long island classic (senior tour tournament) in 2001 or 2002 a couple of miles from my house.
Long Island has like 140 golf courses lol.

How do you get a handicap? You have to play religiously at a close 18 hole club?
edit: I've only played 9 hole courses so far since I've started up with golf again.

No I agree it is really boring. It's a bit funner of course as anything is if you're like competing with friends or something.

i hate getting up in the morning but there's nothing like getting up at 5:30 and getting to the course when the sun is rising, hitting a couple nice shots, amazing really (you have to carry your bag too, cart golf isn't nearly the same ).
lol @albatross, that would make my life better score than a hole in one on a par 3 too
congrats man, i've yet to hit an eagle, i don't drive long enough. i was 0_0 at your 280 yard drive lol. kinda funny actually, i just got back from golfing. didn't shoot well though -_-

It was hard to judge due to the temporary tee.
I don't take a golf cart normally, but I do use a pull cart :p

still better than driving a cart lol. sometimes driving is necessary or preferable but it's just not as fun as walking imo

your subconscious knowledge of physics led you to the eagle, imo. :p

Nice!
I've had one eagle where i drove my first shot directly into a bunker (trying to make it to the green in one) and then somehow in my rage i actually hit a good shot and chipped the ball in lol..so lucky
I'm fairly certain this will be the only eagle i ever get since i cant putt worth crap and even if i happen to get on the green in one i usually 2 or 3 putt
Anyways, congrats!

wow nice, getting eagles is very hard

I had 3 eagles in one day once playing skins.
was fucking awesome. Drove 2 par 4's and hit a par 5 in 2.
was this with your new driver? how are you liking it?
Also push cart > pull cart. And getting a handicap is a pain if you arent a member somewhere. Ive wanted one for years but never been able to get one. To get into the Michigan Amateur here you need to have one....us open qualifiers too.

Also push cart > pull cart. I just started noticing push carts. What's the major difference? Requires a bit less force?
