They were also in CONCACAF and lost to the US which was composed of our reserve picks. And we SUCK at this game.

That was 2019. I'm not too worried until Japan and South Korea have played at least their opening match

Don't think he will as I never pictured him being a principal type of player. Also England is saying they will take a knee... so.

For Qatar nothing will change once the WC is over. As for FIFA, they can simple agree to the request and be done with, showing some good faith while leaving aside the whole bidding fiasco and other things more related to FIFA scrutiny (like worker deaths). On the other hand, I think the only way this tracks some real action is if Kane goes into the pitch with it (with FIFA not allowing) and gets carded live on TV in detriment of his team. I mean, I'm not against the gesture, but I feel FIFA has an easy way out of this one.

I mean, I'm not against the gesture, but I feel FIFA has an easy way out of this one. Hopefully he does give it a crack and let’s see. FIFA want to have it both ways, which is the main problem for them reputationally. If they just said fuck it, it’s a football tournament we’re not getting involved, I mean ok that’s not super popular, but it’s more palatable than this nonsense. You can’t simultaneously preach inclusivity while giving the sport’s crown jewel to Qatar. Especially as the closer the tournament came the more their tack changed. What justification existed for giving such an honour to Qatar on a social level was the idea that they’d be forced to moderate with the increased scrutiny. A process FIFA have thrown out the door, I mean look at Infantino’s monologue. It’s not all bad necessarily. I think part of it stems from FIFA misjudging how pliable Qatar is, they’re less keen to rewrite laws as we’ve seen being increasingly expected of hosts.

"Curious ultra section" means there was a curious section behind the goal with a bunch of hooligans in it. Ultras traditionally buy the tickets behind the goal, as they are the cheaper seats, but that doesn't really apply at a world cup. I'm not sure what made the guy refer to that section as "ultras". I didn't see any violence. I guess the fact that they chanted "queremos cerveza" at FIFA at some point? Either way, the fact that the stadium is empty for Qatar's game just further illustrates why this was all a really bad idea.
