Many indie MMORPGs nowadays include strategic features like territory conquest, caravans, city building (or space station building, for the sci-fi titles), large-scale PvP skirmishes, etc. Others of course are more old-school and focused on the RPG elements. Here's a list of 10 independent MMORPGs I've high hopes will release in the coming months or (most likely) years.
I'd add CorePunk! One of upcoming MMOs that looks most promising to me. Devs are independent, they are taking it slow smart and with care, no crowd funding bs nor pre-purchase with benefits. Check it out, you can sign up for beta that should start soon(tm)!
Corepunk is an MMORPG with fog-of-war in a seamless open world. Thanks to the top-down camera and fog-of-war, you'll want to discover every nook and cranny. Corepunk offers a variety of professions, battlegrounds, challenging monsters in unique camps, guilds, farms, quests, and a profound lore.

Nice, thanks! I've added Corepunk to the list. Looks pretty promising from what I've seen in the video.
Cool list! Most of those I'm following with huge interest. Though I'm not sure if "indie" is the right word for some of them. I mean that fact that some of them use UE4 points me in the direction of AA games at least. And then there is the most expensive MMO ever... xD
EDIT: Ah you just meant there is no "big" studio/ publisher behind them I guess. Understood

Yea usually indie means no big publisher / investors behind them, of course it's a bit touchy to know when investors become "big" enough that they influence significantly the studio in their decision (and therefore would lose their "independence"). SC for example has hundreds of millions in funding but it's all (almost all?) crowdfunding, so no string attached money.
Excited for Ashes and Star Citizen! Hopefully they don't come out at the same time, but I've given up all hope of Star Citizen ever coming out so that's that.

Yea this MMO is pretty exciting, should be nice PvP/PvE balanced game. They keep showing the same area in live-stream though, hopefully they've more work done on the map than just one area.

Honestly, to me, those two games look like they gonna be forever in development hell.
Classic MMO(RPG) scene doesn't look too hot, I am pretty hyped for Blizzard's Classic TBC tho! But I do itch for some good and NEW classic MMO(RPG), wish something good comes out soon(tm) - as I said I have biggest confidence in CorePunk, hope they don't disappoint because I really like what is shown by now and dev. team didn't sell out (yet) so game might be both properly released, good and fair.
With Classis you mean tab targeting MMOs or theme park MMOs? I think some of the Asian MMO's have successors in development like Aion 2 and Blade & Soul 2'ish. Also there is Elyon and a bunch more. Keep in mind that 80% will fail in the west because of heavy grind and/ or p2w mechanics
