Naix is broken. Thats a fact.
I am currently 15-5 with Naix in ranked match making. Here are the reasons why:
1/ Laning flexibility.
Naix currently could be played in almost ANY position, ANY lane. You could go offlane using a buffer large camp near by or you could just hide in the jungle. Thats beside the norm which is just to run him as slot 1 safe lane carry as always. The extremely low item requirement(which i will get into later) also opened a lot of door into naix item choice. What that means is that Naix could afford warding, chicken or what ever you name it.
2/ The ancient power.
Playing naix is playing pokemon. You got 3 picks on what ancient creep you could get at 6 mins and lets all agree that the fire-breathing dragon is the best choice. Not only you CANNOT be killed, you also have tremendous pushing, fighting, farming power and the in-your-face ability that often could only be seen with Panda ultimate. Did i mention that you have the farming power? Drake's new fireball spell is better in clearing creepwave than kotl blast, on par with darkseer ionshell. Now imagine you have a unkillable darkseer going behind enemy tier1 to erase the creepwave.. at minute 6. Did i also mention that you got to PICK the ancient creep? Yes, stacking the camp guarantee you either a Lizard or a dragon at min 6... or even BOTH if you are lucky enough.
3/ The econ.
Naix simply needs no item to dominate the game. Even an idiot could get level 6 at 6 minute on naix, especially with the jungle buff... and the Iron talon scaling with melee strength hero... You could roam the map from min 6 to min 15 with nothing but a ring of basi(500) + iron talon(500) +brown boot(400). It is extremely easy to get a radiance at 18-19 minutes if you time your creep stacking right to constantly get a black dragon. And if you want to go the support road, get a vlad: cheap build up with tremendous pushing power with HP regen, armor aura and lifesteal, all work on your unkillable ancient creep.
4/ The ungankable.
Laning is too flexible to gank a naix. Especially when he comes online at 6 minute. You cant quick kill an ancient creep unless you have a specific hero in a group of 6. 98% of the spells do NOTHING to the creep. And even if the manage to kill the creep, you could consume out and fight or Rage+TP. Did i mention you could get blink dagger to get a cheap consume->blink because you take no damage while inside the creep? I guess i just did. Oh yeah, your creep has bonus armor+/(lifesteal+hp regen) from ring of basilus\vlad. And radiance gives you evasion... short of...
HOLY SHIT WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GO PLAY NAIX NOW! Before OSfrog patch it.
Here is the link to some of my recent games, feel free to copy the playstyle.

You are a disgusting human.
Seems after EG did this 2 or 3 times yesterday everyone is doing the ancient cancer strat in pubs, good stuff.

Is the counter ranged heroes that click it down with kiting? Kind of like Axe on steroids?
|
You cant click down ancient naix since he could just run away, cant be disable. The following are the most effective counters but even these just barely scratch the build:
1. Ursa+basher. Dont get to see this as often since i just push really hard leaving no room for ursa to grow.
2. A farmed mid TA. Its really hard to shut down a mid TA as Naix... But she needs to win mid quite dominantly.
3. Venom/Expert Earthshaker. These are good disable vs ancient creep. Venom orb attack slow the creep tremendously(creep has no boots movespeed) with the wards slowing down the push. Earthshaker simply block pathing. Both of these heroes cant stop Rage->TP though.
4. Slardar has been annoying but if you just get your team to push heavily early on he wont have room to grow to threatening level. Also if you reach radiance early, it fucks with his blink terribly.
5. Lycan could burst you down FAST. But i havent seen lycan picked a lot so im not worried.
|
id say lycan is #1 against it hes already the most successful carry in 5k+ pubs both winrate and match duration wise

i tried it yesterday, 75 free mmr
Tranquil boots are really important since the movement speed from the active tranqs are always up while you are in a creep which results in 400 MS on the ancient creep! Also I prefer the Stone Golem for farm since it has high base IAS and 82 dmg which can push any carry out of the lane early on. When you start pushing you can swap to ancient dragon. If they have some super heavy physical lineup just go stack jungle and get a Black Dragon.

The armor aura is REALLY good and the mana regen has been neat.(The build up into vlad is good too) I have yet seen a need for movespeed but i guess ima test it out.
For farming i find the golem is too slow. Thunder lizard damage is much better and attack speed could always come from the frenzy. Better yet Black Dragon just simply clear the wave with fireball spam. Golem is the worst there is until you get radiance.

Do you have a general rule of thumb for skill order or item buys?
I can see that there are cases when you open with Rage first and others with Feast first.

Seems you didnt even get the points I made and the reasoning. Blackdragon goes OOM and has worst attack animation ever, Lizards can get a-clicked with ez so Golem OP.

Right click is neglected when you just kill 4 creeps in 4 seconds with your spell. When you run out of mana you just go back to ancient camp, farm and stack and get another dragon/lizard.
Lizard is undoubtedly easy to kill but i dont think losing an ancient creep while your main purpose is farming that big of a deal. You wont die anyway, obviously thanks to rage->TP, and Thunder lizard provides the ultility you need to put pressure on towers.
Stone golem overall is just too... slow. Its not impactful, too defensive. Its a great host once you got radiance but before that it feels incredibly underwhelming.

haha I got 5 ez wins against 3k scrubs trying this today, thank you and kuro.

Yeah I've found that offlane Naix is actually gross this patch
|
i have no idea wtf i'm doing once i'm in an ancient running around with my radiance; but won 3 games in a row against 3k plebs with this

I find the radiance build a waste of gold. The play style is to infest and gain advantage, then transition to a proper core naix.

I think it depends a lot on the enemy composition and your position. If you're playing vs a comp that doesn't have a strong ability to clear an ancient (like Necrophos, Zeus, or Tinker cores) or really slow developing right click cores (especially melee ones) I'd say the investment is totally worth it. You become incredibly hard and awkward to deal with and can grab tons of map control for your team and just hold on to it almost indefinitely while your safelane/mid core can farm up the map.
If you're the #1 farming core that's not going to work out probably, but if you're playing from an offlane core that can be above and beyond what you need. It's also not like the radiance build is all that bad eventually. If you're carrying like AC + Radiance that's already a ton of right click potential and you'd only need movespeed to supplement it.
On the other hand if the enemy composition has like an Ursa and mid TA your ancient is going to last all of 2 seconds and you can maybe bully a bit with radiance, but more likely than not you're just going to be ineffective and fall behind.
