When I saw runeglaive my first though went to my lovely longrange onhit triggering buddy Ezreal.
AP Ezreal has some really great strengths.
1. crazy burst 2. good scaling 3. great poke 4. slippery as fuck
but he has some serious weaknesses.
1. awful waveclear 2. poor early game 3. No CC
So I got into my customs and gave runglaive AP ezreal a shot. Holy balls.
Runeglaive does some COOL STUFF.
1. Tadaa you now have AOE damage on every Q, waveclear comfortably
2. Now your Q is all magic to take advantage of your pen. Most people and especially tanks build more armor than MR.
3. Shooting a Q into raptors now regains you 8% of missing mana, the cost of Q is much less than 8%. So each Q into raptors when low buys you 2+ more Q's. You can stay in lane and farm with mystic shot indefinitely.
4. Your Q now procs rylais for full 35% slow. Yeah, you read that correctly. I'm not sure why, but runeglaive makes mystic shot proc rylais as a single target spell. The AOE from runeglaive does not proc any slow, but the main target is fully slowed. This is SUPER SICK FOR EZREAL.
5. You can now steal enemy jungle like a boss and run away with E. Total scuttle control. R smite over wall and steal blue 100%.
6. Never miss a cannon minion again because you have smite.
So what are the downsides to Runeglaive on mid ezreal?
1. You lose ignite. This is kinda shitty early but not awful, as some of the smites are pretty damn strong. Challenging smite procs on Q and seems pretty great as both an offensive and defensive option. Ezreal can usually finish kills with Q on short cd, so its not a tragedy. You probably aren't gonna be allining anyone early as AP ezrael anyway.
2. You have to buy machete. You actually don't really. Runeglaive builds out of sheen which is already a great starting item for ezreal. so all you have to do is build sheen like normal, then save up 1k and finish runeglaive in one go.
3. Runeglaive doesn't play nice with lichbane. If you buy lichbane you completely lose the proc from the RG, the AOE, the magic conversion, and the rylais proc. From my testing however, RG actually outdamages lichbane or is extremely comparable in almost every stage of the game plus it costs 700g less....so this is actually not really a weakness, its a strength.
4. You delay tear or delay RG. I would probably rush RG, then tear afterward or even skip it entirely. RG is fucking good.
Anyway, this item is bonkers good on Ezreal even in mid lane. I only tried mid so maybe it even makes him into a good jungler, I dunno. Its pretty exciting as it basically shores up every single weakness AP Ezreal had. I really encourage you to try it out. It fills a huge item gap and gives ezreal a really early item timing that makes him formidable all by himself. It blows Lichbane out of the water, as it only costs 2250 compared to lichbane's 3k, and actually is better because all of its other perks.

Jung ezreal returns! Saintvicious will be happy

does Runglaive Q proc ludens now?
|
I also just realized this makes Gunblade pretty sick on ezreal.
with RG your Q applies spellvamp now
Mystic shot applies 110%AD, RG converts it all to magic damage, so the 40 ad from gunblade adds 44 magic damage to every Q.
Every Q reduces the active cd by 3 seconds.

Yes it procs ludens, the ludens proc also procs 15% rylai slow as well.

What's the AP Ezreal build if you're skipping Tear + Lichbane and going for a Runeglaive centric one?
The nerdgasm so far over Runeglaive, Luden's, Rylais, Gunblade plus necessary Sorc + Void seems underwhelming.
|
Rylais not necessary imo, just like IBG is not necessary.
Runglaive+Gunblade is probably optimal core, Luden's is probably not necessary considering how good Ez ult clear is.

Still working it out
So far I like glaive first, tear after still, it allows infinite spam and the big mana pool lets you q a camp later game and get like 200 mana+ seraphs
gunblade seems real strong, and it keeps you topped off all the time so I've been going that
Then probably seraphs/void/dcap and final item rylai or defensive
its hard to tell, I've played 3 games and two have been full team feed except me so I can't take much from them other than that I do a lot of damage.

I have settled on tear, RG, Ludens, dcap, void
pretty solid, ludens honestly doesn't feel that strong to me, is proc is really tiny and infrequent and I am contemplating removing it since your ratios are so good. it honestly doesn't do much of anything for waveclear.
jesus fuck you are squishy. Q is actually barely long enough to poke and not worry about getting blow the fuck up
Q>E>W feels best to me after trying a bunch of shit. W max is conditionally good if you want to go for kills in laning. Most of the time E CD is better and more reliable to me.
I can actually see this build getting competitive play, as it has many hallmarks of successful competitive mids and is actually laneable now with RG. We will see if the laning is good enough now...or if Rito nerfs it like red posts sort of suggest.
1. Good poke and DPS 2. Extremely good escapes 3. Global waveclear 4. insane burst on a locked down target 5. Can add suprise burst from out of vision/unexpectedly far 6. Fat huge AOE teamfighting nuke that is pretty much impossible to prevent in every teamfight
the teamwide 40% AS buff also cant be ignored

Faced this in solo queue (mid ezreal smite runeglaive) the burst is pretty good... It was pretty annoying to play against. The classical thing happened where you get baron stolen because your jungler is lower level than the solo laners...

Also works quite well in the jungle I like doing Rangers+RG -> Gunblade -> Dcap, dont really need Tear once you have RG and Cutlass gives you sustain + slightly better ganking, dont think item choices after those two matter much Ran Hybridpen marks AS quints Flat AP blues 21/9/0 Flat AD/AP masteries

What jungle route do you take Inflicted? Camp -> buff -> buff?

I'm not convinced with the tear, tbh. Played a couple of games without it, and yeah you have some mana problems in the early game, but soon enough mana becomes a non-issue, especially if you can get blues. Also frees a spot for Zhonia in the end-game build. Tried morello for one game, since I was vs Swain, but that didn't feel too good.

I rarely get blues so It's pretty crucial if I want to be using Q constantly, which I do. Seraphs is also a really really great AP item.

I've been skipping Tear. I think it's critical to get your Runeglaive/Luden's ASAP and I haven't really had much mana problems. And I love Zhonya on him because it really lets you use your E as part of your combo much more aggressively. So my build is Runeglaive, Luden's Echo, then some mixture of Zhonya's/Deathcap/Void Staff. I think CDR boots go without saying as being superior to magic pen boots in this build, given that you have no room for any other CDR in the build.
What I want to know is which jungle item you all get. Here are my thoughts on each:
* Ranger's: Good waveclear, good health/mana restore on smite, no combat qualities * Challenger's: True damage on autos, -20% incoming damage. Doesn't really fit with the burst playstyle though, since by the time you are in smite range either they should be dead or you should be dead. * Stalker's: Can chase someone down or to kite away one of the "run-at-you" tanks.
I see legitimate arguments for all of them.

How can you play Ezreal with no mana/mana regen items...? Seems ill advised at best.
My understanding is that you're still playing a poke-ish role, and a lack of mana seems like you wouldn't be very effective?
