The moment Black Metal was torn down the middile between fans who refused to accept change (the response to Sigh's work beyond Hail Horror Hail, for example) and fans that were too busy whoring themselves to poor examples of it (too many examples to name) , was when the music began to go downhill as far as I was concerned. Nowadays, people are being low quality for sake of it and/or whoring keyboards, rather than realising that if you want to stand against Commercialism and stand for good underground music, the key is to make good music in the first place.
Riff quality and song construction in Black Metal bands is key. Which is exactly what a lot of newer bands lack in their mad stampede for 'kvlt'ness and 'atmosphere' (ie, more keyboard whoring) and why older bands who've moved on beyond Black Metal still produce great material.
Well, imho anyway.

all i can say is FUCK...
you guys know your stuff! :D
thanks for all the advice
I liked the beneath the massacre song...even if a little derivative from necrophagist, the musicianship was fucking insane too lol. Maybe not as much in the song structure as necro but really cool riffing and stuff :D.
Decrepit birth I still have to make my mind up
wow spawn of possession. Just listening now...that's some good shit. Damn I don't want to go to bed i want to listen :O:O:O
This spawn of possession is fucking awesome because they sound like Nile + necrophagist my two favourite death metal bands :D.
Man so much stuff to listen to!
I could go on for ages though...because i like everything that is good...so can some ppl also give me THRASH bands either like megadeth or like exodus/slayer :O!
also meh I might as well ask does anyone like ALL of these: stevie wonder, the beach boys, focus, rush, jason becker, steve vai, the prodigy, the clash, the jam, madness, the specials, michael jackson, eddie van halen, orchestra baobab, lethal bizzle, dizzee rascal, mc bearman, pendulum, muse, tower of power, the bee gees, FAITH NO MORE omg, mr bungle, frost, NWA, Run DMC, Sugarhill Gang, beastie boys, level 42, yes, asia, average white band, john coltrane, charlie parker, miles davis, black sabbath, ratm, audioslave...wow i could go on...does anyone like those :D.
Also does anyone know BAL SAGOTH!!!!!!!

yeah I don't know if he will actually join a new one... he's currently managing a deathcore band called Fallen Figure, that's all I know

HamerD if you are a true death metal fan, you will eventually take your time and listen to Obscura! you must =) I know it's hard to get into though but give it a shot.

Sanctity, Warbringer, Lich King, Warbringer, Project Failing:Flesh, Annunaki, Cro-Mags (well, not exactly. But they're great crossover and the links are there), Quinta Essentia, Skeletonwitch, Seventh Angel, Slaughter, Morbid Saint, Beyond Possession, Thy Gate Beyond, Ascendant (instrumental), Incriminated, Besieged, Dekapitator .
My Thrash Knowledge < My Progressive/experimental knowledge. Way, waaaay too many of the thrash bands I could name are black/death/thrash or so on, so I've tried to stick to ones that are either clearly modern thrash, bay area thrash, etc.
And Obscura - > I will assume this is the one from Munchen, ala Progressive death rather than the Death Thrash one. Both are good.

haxxorized, you are teh cool

Oh, the album. Yes, listen to that one. It is one of those examples of why Luc Lemay is heavily underrated. I preferred from Wisdom To Hate however, better songwriting imho.
edit. updated then <_< As for your question Incontrol, if it is Leche, he does live drums for Through the Eyes of the Dead.

They kicked their last original member (their drummer who recruited all of them) pretty sad stuff. no wonder it sounds so much gayer... The drums are less cool and the overall sound is NOT them. I cant believe they already got fucked over.
also as far as Black metal goes, Cradle of Filth wins it.

no he was talking about Leche, ex drummer of the deathcore band As Blood Runs Black.

It pisses me off when ppl say dying fetus, morbid angel or whatever.
Cephalic carnage are quite close, and definitely death/ atheist, but is there anything that is closer?
Check out Origin. http://www.myspace.com/origin666 Their vocalist never shuts the hell up, but it's extremely technical and I think they outdo even Necrophagist in utterly needless complexity. Other obvious ones you've probably heard of would be Nile, Spawn of Possession, Defeated Sanity, Cryptopsy, Gorguts, Mithras (This is pretty much right up your alley, though a little more focused on the ambient/atmospheric side), and T.O.O.H.
There's a pretty good resource for tabs/covers/video lessons for alot of really technical stuff over at www.riversofgore.com, and I know all the guys who do the covers/video lessons are into pretentious wankery death metal.
Adorior are a virtually unknown black/death/thrash group which I found surprisingly good. www.myspace.com/adorior

Nah there are a few new good ones. Keep of Kalessin are awesome along with Aborym, Aborym isn't exactly new tho but theyre still making albums afaik.
Crown of the Kings The wealth of darkness(my fav)

Gorguts' "Obscura" is my all time favorite death metal album. Brilliant experimental approach to death metal. However, I do not consider it particularly technical, except perhaps the drumming, and it certainly is not similar to Necrophagist (actually sort of opposite of Necrophagist, in many ways.) .
If you want all out technicality, try Behold...The Arctopus. They are sometimes compared to Necrophagist (a comparison that holds up in some ways and doesn't in others.) Behold... is a purely instrumental 3 piece technical metal band. Check them out HamerD, you'll probably dig them. They are at LEAST as technical as Necrophagist.
Oh, another band that comes to mind that you might like is Psyopus. They aren't like Necrophagist, but the guitar work is pretty damn technical. Their sound, however, is very much more chaotic than Necrophagist, but you'll probably be impressed with the overall technical abilities of everyone in the band, particularly on "Our Puzzling Encounters Considered" - their latest album.

Psyopus sound sick, but their vocals put me off for some reason

I'm still stuck in the past when it comes to Black Metal. I really like US Depressive Black Metal. Artists like Leviathan/LoC (Wrest), Draguar, Xasthur (He fucking sucks now). And many others back from that era of BM.
I find it really hard to find new music that I like from that genre.

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.
