The Last Chance Qualifiers for the Esports World Cup will be held from July 4th to July 7th (see Liquipedia for detailed info.)

Two players will earn spots at the 18-player main event at the Esports World Cup

Insane to think about this qualifier basically having a 15k prize for the players who qualifies haha

MaxPax still hasn't pulled out. It would be awfully rude of him to pull out this late. I think we might see him play.

Does anyone know if TY is going to give it a shot? or is he gone from sc2 altogether?

He said this latest season of GSL was his retirement tournament.

'Retirement' is hardly a binding contract in SC2, but I seriously doubt he'll compete.

Looking at the European Standings...should MaxPax actually decide to attend, Spirit really will have to go through the entire Book of Protoss BS to qualify for the Last Chance Qualifier ._.

That is pretty mental now you mention it. Coulda been even more if the prize distribution wasn’t so top-heavy too!

Still thinking about this.
I wonder if he has already pulled out though, and the standings just haven't been updated yet, or...

Paying the 12-18th place players 15k is already pretty generous imo.

No offence but those players games are usually not as exciting or hyped in these kind of big tournaments because we know all of them are not even remotely close to having a chance to winning it

For example 15k is already a big step up in pay for players such as coffee, Astrea, gumiho,

I think 15k is a big step up for almost everybody.

It's not radically different from the split of the last IEM earlier in the year. I don't see them deviating from the top heavy distribution, their reasons on doing so are pretty clear in the first place.
I'm just a cynical video game enjoyer who is probably unfazed by many business dealings many would find utterly distasteful, while not strictly illegal by the law as seen in a general sense in the world.

Wow that would be so awesome. Poor Spirit, but I think Maxpax would be much more fitting.

I hope he competes and doesn't let the pressure get to him. He could win it all, it would be glorious. Or at the least, push Serral or Maru in a 3-4 match.

Well such is the problem with throwing money at a mega tournament such as this in a scene that is in the state that it’s currently in.

Certainly wouldn’t have been my first choice in how to use that kinda fund

Are the open qualifiers region locked or just on a specific server?

Given the entry lists on the ESL website I assume it's region locked

It's region-locked, though the European qualifier is actually the usual EMEA-qualify - not that it matters.
Sadly that means the korean qualifier might be a bit bloated. Three slots after eight of the best Koreans already have a slot is...tragic to be honest.

Stats/Shin/Bunny/Creator/Rogue/Nightmare are at least as good as any EU player who hasn't qualified yet, and better than most of them.

It's a peculiar choice since the Katowice qualifiers weren't region locked. I guess there's some "world cup" theming for EWC, but is there actually some higher-up at ESL/EWC who's gonna look at SC2 and say "hey why don't we have more players from Latin America" or something like that? Why not just try and get the best players in?

Might be...but then there are ~10 more slots for koreans most people have never heard about.

I think just all EWC-qualifiers are region-locked? So it might really be that theme to have global representation...well, somewhat.
It technically also aligns with the original ESWC who even had national-locked qualifiers.
