The project's placed on hold for an undetermined timeframe
A couple of days ago, Neil Bloomcamp tweeted that Alien 5 will be his next project.
On March 01 2015 04:34 {CC}StealthBlue quoted:Director Neill Blomkamp is setting the record straight that his upcoming “Alien” sequel won’t “undo” the events of “Alien 3” or “Alien: Resurrection.” It appears as though the new movie will take place before the sequels, serving as a bridge between the first two films, “Alien” and “Aliens.” “My favorites are the first two movies, so I want to make a film that’s connected to ‘Alien’ and ‘Aliens,’” he told AlloCine. “That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo ‘Alien 3′ or ‘Alien: Resurrection;’ I just want it to be connected to Alien ‘1’ and ‘2.’” Source

Let`s see if Bloomkamp can contribute a worthy movie to this saga.
Haven`t seen his latest movie, Chapie, yet, but District 9 was refreshing different. So i`m looking forward to both movies.
I`ll keep this topic updated. Since it`ll take some time for the movie to be released, i will only push this topic after drastic changes or major updates.

Ugh, so this means Resurrection is canon? I was hoping this would just be a follow up to 3.
Well my guess is it's going to be very much like Aliens, which isn't bad. They will go with the formula that worked best.
|
It makes no different to me if it`s a follow up to 1,2 or 3 as long as it isn`t one to 4. Artworks would suggest something something Aliens (2).
|
I heard this is a follow up to Aliens and they are going to ignore 3 and 4.

Would be quite happy with this. It has been called Aliens 5 though. Hopefully that isn't the final name.

Oh, forgot to mention in the post earlier above; Alien 5 is only the project`s working titel!

still don't understand why everyone hates 4, it was inventive and had style. Apart from the original Alien and the much maligned Alien 4 I don't actually like the other films, 3 was a total abortion of a movie and 2 is basically just a dumb space combat movie with shitty dialogue (I know I'm in the minority here).

Chappie hasn't even premiered yet. Looks like it could be amazing or a complete disaster.

That`s a + in my book at least! I`ll edit it into the op, if you don`t mind.
Update1: Looks like Sigourney Weaver is confirmed, Michael Biehn hasn`t yet.
Update2:Looks like Michael Biehn is on board too!
My body is ready

Pre-production begins What is pre-production?
When they asked Sigourney if Ripley would be coming back she responded by saying: "There are two factors [Neill Blomkamp] needs: Ripley and the Aliens".
When ET asked Blomkamp about when he plans to start on Alien 5, he replied by saying as early as next week. Following this question the reporter also asked if Sigourney would be cast, to which Neill responded with: "She'll be in the cast," Blomkamp said. "She is the Alien franchise, to me, so yeah." - ET

also:
Unlike his previous works, this will be the first time Neill directs a film based on someone else's property and ideas. Blomkamp mentions one of his main concerns was that he didn't want anyone telling him how to make this new Alien movie - he wanted complete control and creative freedom - and it seems like Fox were eager to honor that request.

I am now worried about this, after how underwhelming and disappointing Elysium and Chappie was.

Given that I've never seen 3 and 4, that would be perfectly fine with me.

"Aliens" vet Michael Biehn will apparently be reporting for duty for another tour of duty with the franchise.
Director Neill Blomkamp has recruited Biehn to reprise his role as a space marine from the 1986 "Aliens" in the eagerly awaited upcoming sequel.
"It's official," Biehn posted on his Instagram page, before taking it down.

During an interview with Empire Magazine here in the UK, Blomkamp revealed that discussions between himself, 20th Century Fox and Ridley Scott have made it clear that an element of his story needed to change as it would affect the plot of Scott’s own Prometheus 2.
“I changed the one thing [Ridley Scott] felt was bumping Prometheus a little bit,” Blomkamp said, adding that he has a title – but it would be a major spoiler to reveal it, “it’s kinda quite bold, but it gives away too much if I say the title.”

I want to get my hopes up... I always do... but then they get crushed so hard every time If Ridley Scott couldn't make a decent Alien movie, I just don't know if anyone can in this modern era of the movie industry.
The concept art with Ripley and Hicks looks like its headed in the right direction, though it flies in the face of the abomination of a movie that was Alien 3, which it sounds like he doesn't plan to contradict. And it won't make any sense with the actors being so much older now...
If anything, I'd love to just see a movie that shows what happens at Hadley's Hope between the scene where Newt's family finds the derelict and when the space marines arrive.
