Yes, level 5 unlocks the race portrait and the FoS. I'm not sure if they will have a FoS for each race like Diablo 3 had for each class but getting all 3 to level 5 will provide you with the full exclusive beta rewards.
Yea, that's what we've been discussing. Great call on their part due to this last 'incident'. I have to say, I'm glad it happened since it cut the grind from 60+ hours down to about 3. I don't know how much leveling/xp testing they will get from this but I'm sure many others playing ladder is the better pace since those grinding vs. AI will not be the same as leveling via ladder.

Quickly, go back and edit something awesome into it.

I am pretty sure it is for all server since there is only one beta server so problems effecting EU/KR would have effected NA as well.

Can't write in the thread since I'm EU. us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/7788739133 Yes, his announcement says the requirements for the FoS and the race portraits is now level 5. "As a result of the leveling issues that several players experienced shortly after beta patch 2.0.3 was released, we have decided to lower the leveling requirement for the Feat of Strength and portraits announced in the Call to Action: Heart of the Swarm Beta Leveling blog."
Yeah, but in the sentence after that he says "For each faction you manage to raise to level 5, you'll receive an exclusive character portrait specific to that race when Heart of the Swarm is released on March 12, 2013.". Nothing about the FoS. Thought it was a bit unclear is all, would hate to miss out on the FoS seeing as I don't have that many levels left and didn't lose much XP.

Level 5 seems a bit too low for me. Everyone in the beta now can get the FoS without any special effort. On the other hand, this decision by Blizzard saves me a lot of time as well.
|
It might not be the one that you get for reaching lvl 30 though. EDIT: nvm I guess I wasted a few days worth of grinding and (after they dropped me back to lvl 5 for each race) re-grinding. I'm gonna keep playing the beta anyway since it's so much fun.

Because there are not 3 FoSs, only one and it is not bound to any specific race, just 'Helped out in HoTS Beta' or something along those lines.

Cool move by Blizzard. I say level 5 is good.
Making it level 30 and making it take like 30-40+ hours per level 30 (I'm only level 12 I think on Terran, 5 on Toss and Zerg), so about 120-140+ hours total is too much for some people IMO.
It would be okay if there was no time limit but a month to play 120-140+ hours is actually a lot (and it's 120-140+ hours if you grind out against the AI, making 50k exp per 20 mins; If you play normally, you'll likely get half the amount).
Overall, glad it was reduced to level 5. Cool move by Blizzard.
Edit - Also are any of the animations or skins unlocked by leveling? I checked someone with level 30 on a race and I checked their skins and animations, and they have none of them unlocked.
The dances are okay but they should add the HotS viking landing animation as a reward. Or maybe just make it built into the game (I don't think Vikings being able to move and land, while keep their momentum and then making a cool slide, would be OP at all >.>).
I'd do that every game for sure (when I'm winning of course).
Edit 2 - About the FoS and stuff, since the requirement is so low, I say everyone should get all three races to level 5, even if they just only one race portrait. It's nice to have the collection. About there being only 1 FoS or 3? I think it might be like Diablo III promo where you get 1 FoS for each race (I know they said only "Feat of Strength", singular, but it might be a mistake because every other Blizzard game, 1 reward is always tied with at least 1 specific achievement or specific FoS, so that means there might be actually 3 FoS from leveling 3 races to level 5).

The original thing was one portrait for each race you got to lvl30 and a Feat of Strength if you got all three races to lvl30. Portraits are lvl5 now, and I assume that the FoS will be for getting the portraits. Just wanted to make sure, since the blue post is a bit unclear in my opinion.

I think everything is clear and understandable.
1) You reach 5th level at each race 2) At game release you will have three 30lvl portraits and one FoE achievement for participating in beta.
I think they will have other 30 level portraits from the beta so these are jsut placeholders (when in release we will have completely different 30lvl portraits, because just look at portrait names), but as they said, those placeholders can be a good representation that you played the beta.

The blue post is 100% clear no? It leaves no doubt on what has changed.
I'm glad. I just recently started beta and though I found a decent way of getting protoss XP (75k in 20-25 mins), I wasn't looking forward to a grind like that and then twice more.

It's not 100% clear to me, no. It's not completely unclear and I do believe that lvl5 with all three races will be enough for portaits and FoS. Anyway, I can break it down to show my point.
Aldrexus: As a result of the leveling issues that several players experienced shortly after beta patch 2.0.3 was released, we have decided to lower the leveling requirement for the Feat of Strength and portraits announced in the Call to Action: Heart of the Swarm Beta Leveling blog. Here, both the portraits and the FoS is mention and it's stated that the leveling requirement has been lowered.
Aldrexus: For each faction you manage to raise to level 5, you'll receive an exclusive character portrait specific to that race when Heart of the Swarm is released on March 12, 2013. Please note that even though these rewards are still tied to level 30 in the beta, each faction reward will be assigned to your permanent account when Swarm is released if you reach level 5, in the beta, with that faction. In the following sentences, where the actual level requirements are given, the FoS isn't mentioned. This got me a bit worried. As said, I do assume that the FoS will be handed out along with the portraits for getting lvl5 with all three races. I just got a bit uncertain due to not mentioning the FoS in the latter part of the post. Getting bigger than it originally was now, I just wanted to doublecheck and the EU forums are pretty dead when it comes to blue posts.

Haha, well damn good thing I didn't spend most of my days this week grinding it out. Still props and thanks to you guys who did get to level 30 and were kind enough to share strategies.

Great. Freaking. News. :D

Despite the knock-down of xp from a lot of people (myself included), everything seems to have panned out fairly well. Level 5 is a pretty alright number for those looking only to get the portraits/FoS, and even better the "Call to Action" helped bring this bug to everyone's attention. Seeing how distraught some people were because of the experience rollback (the overly dramatic, "I cancelled my pre-order, gg blizz can't make a game" sort) its definitely good that the leveling system is getting this sort of attention and with any luck can be nicely tuned and refined by March!
As for me, the grind for portraits is over, but the beta still awaits. I really look forward to the last month and a half we have to test and get the game ready for launch. It's been pretty great so far, so here's to the final stretch!

haha what a luck i saw this, i was on my to start farming!

I'm a level 27 Protoss, but I don't have the portrait. Anyone know whats up? Isn't it supposed to be level 5 now?

You get the portrait (and feat of strength) on your regular account when HotS comes out. Any grinding now after level 5 is just for Beta portraits I guess

Confirmed
Feat of Strength is now awarded (when HOTS launches March 12) if a player is Terran level 5, Zerg level 5 and Protoss level 5 (in the Beta before it closes).
