For an african worker spending money on the game itself would seem illogical, so why is this any different? You have the money to spend.
On topic: Sick sick sick weapon. Would be a shame if it was nerfed in a future patch :D

It seems ridiculous, but really is it any different than buying a great work of art? If the player thinks it has such value, if he really loves the game, I can see how they may be equivalent. Also that space station the guy bought in the article can be seen more as an investment. That game, Entropia, apparently has its own economy where people can make money similar to Diablo 3. If you manage your space station right, then he could get a good return on investment. Besides that he loves the game. Why not? The difference is that a work of art will last - it also has thought, meaning and a lot more invested in it. Don;t get me wrong i am not an art fan but its clear that a piece of art has longetivity In 10 years diablo 3 will be a memory. Much like for most diablo 2 is. That woudl be like paying several grand for a cs1.6 skin or a doom skin. The conversation wouldnt be happening if people wernt emotionally attached and addicted to it. Moreover most really valuable art ... the artist is dead ... ie no more will be appearing. There is a good reason why artists are poor during life. I get spending silly amounts of money. But its not like doing so needs defending. But if you are buying a pieve of art its an investment ... buying an item in a copmuter game is a much much shorter term investment. blowing 10k in a nightclub is probably going to get you laid. Also as above ... patches? How many people invested in attack speed just to get everything nerfed? You have NOT bought a thing ... games are very very different. TBH if blizz wiped all the data in all the servers ... you would have no comeback.

TBH if blizz wiped all the data in all the servers ... you would have no comeback. Cool story, it'll get you laid. You spent 10 grand for a few hours. This dude is spending 10 grand for probably a few hundred hours at least. Why are you trying to compare it to art? It's a much different scenario. It's like buying a car. Eventually it's gonna be outdated and useless, yet you still buy it. What happens if there's a fire, then your art is gone. What comeback do you have now? Anything and everything bought with money will "eventually be a memory." So why does it matter? You spend thousands to go on a vacation that turns into a memory a week later, why can't this guy spend it on a video game?

Its a similar trend in video games. A breakout game creates a franchise. It then slowly becomes shittier or starts to cater to its hardcore fans or something, which makes the game worse and worse overall as sequels are pumped out.
