Hey Guys,im a Platinum Terran from Germany.I Play SC2 since 1 Year now(with a short break of 4 months)and i have a huge Problem.
I don`t know why,but I am scared to press the Find Match button.I didnt had this in the beginning of my sc2 career, but as i got better and higher,I got more Scared.I dont know if that is just a problem of me,or if other people also have this kind of Feeling.
I really dont have a Problem to jump in a Custom Game, play and lose.If i lose in a Ladder Match, and see that i fall down in the ladder ranking,i just dont want to play sc2 anymore, and i take a break for 2 days or so,which means i barely play 5 games per week.
I`m excited to hear your answers

As you've played more you've started to care more about the game, so now you're afraid to play in case you lose.
Only way to get over it is just to keep hitting find game until you don't care about losing.

You are not alone... I have the same feelings (Diamond Zerg) But I play like 1 game a month since the beta :D
I am also from Germany. Maybe the country is the problem? :D

Good for you. I have problems NOT to press that button. Much more unhealthy for life in general.

who cares? its just a button, and by pressing it you get to play some awesome sc2

Since im in the HoTs beta this problem is gone for me, i just play unnranked

Or you can just do what I did and quit playing and find something better to do with your time, or find a more entertaining game to play. Makes no sense to tread water. Of course if you like being scared thats fine too I guess lol. Although I must warn you it could cause you to become paranoid.

Once you've lost enough time you stop giving a fuck, don't worry.

Once you come to the realization that you are not the best player in the world and that it is inevitable that you will lose a game and that by only through losing can you improve - then maybe you'll find solace.

You know what might help, pick random and try some silly strats and just enjoy yourself (you will obviously lose a lot). Then you will subconsciously accept that losing doesn't matter and lose your fear.

Disclaimer: I am one of those people who think ladder anxiety doesn't really exist, and is just an excuse for people to not play the game.
My advice. Why do you play sc 2? Do you play for fun? Do you play because you want to be a pro? If you are playing for fun then you have no reason to have issues. No one is judging your performance. No one really cares how you play. Honestly, if you don't want to play the game don't play it, play when you feel like it and you are hyped up to play. Get yourself excited to play. Just have fun.

This. Once I had ladder anxiety. Now I don't, and I kinda wish i had anxiety, because sc2 is insanely addicting and I shouldn't waste my time playing this game.
I really wish I could have a helthy relationship with sc2. Say I could perhaps 2 hours 3/4 times a week.
Now I don't play that often (cus I know i can't control it). But when I play I play for like 12 hours straight or so.

Your definitely wrong. I remember thinking sc2 was really fun to play, yet I was scared to lose.
Most people also don't use anxiety as an excuse. They would use other excuses not to play the game. Like they are tired, htey have to do other stuff in 20 mons (so they don't have time to play now). Or they will say they need to study the game to become better. This is not because they don't enjoy 1on1. They are just scared of losing. The problem is when you identiify your self with your rank/point etc.
As a general rule; As long as you know your rank/the amoint of point you have --> then you have ladder anxiety. Because chances are, that if you know you have like 466 point and is rank 11, then you are too focussed on those numbers and they become your "world". You are scared of losing it. However, for me there came a time where I became more focussed at getting better at the game. LIke improving siege tank positioning. Unit control etc, and graduallly started to care less about rank. It's much better to identify your self with your ingame strenghts. LIke "I have great marine splitting" or "I am a great mech player" than "I am rank 4 in division 65 platinum".

WTF is ladder anxiety? I mean I used to play Broodwar for over 5 years on various ladders WGTour, PGTour, ICCUP, but never heard of it... Is this some kind of new computing age disease?
