The games were pretty good today. DRG slaughtered everyone, only looking shaky in one game against Maru which he actually lost due to a botched allin. We left after he got through the group, since Sam had been sick earlier and we were hungry. His english was really good, and he was very happy to sign+take a few photos; he was also very manner and stayed back to watch the rest of his group's games, unlike the winners from the other days (MC lol).
We got the laddering urges earlier in the day, so went out to find a PC bang to try and play SC2 on the korean server. We read up on it a bunch here on TL and saw that without an account, you can't really play in a PC bang unless you relocalise or ask for the owner's accounts if he has any. We walked around for about an hour trying different bangs when we gave up to play broodwar in one at random. After a few nauseating games (we're terrible at BW), I had the brilliant notion of simply trying to log in on the Korean client. It worked.
Apparently in PC bangs, anyone with an existing battle.net account can simply log into the KR client and play the unrestricted version of SC2 on the KR ladder - but only in PC bangs. They've got some kind of separate client or trace going which reverts your account to the Starter edition if you try to access it from anywhere else. We both won all our placements and placed into platinum; alright for first try on KR, we thought.
After the GSL and dinner, we went back to ladder some more, and after more wins and a few frustrating losses (Sam's endless TvP woes and my unfortunate mismicroing in a ZvZ, as well as some diamond terran who was an extremely persistent dropper), we both got into diamond, a worthy achievement for our first night playin! (so we thought)
Here's some pretty sick graffiti we found in an alley in Hongdae whilst walking around looking for PC bangs:
