Hey guys, it's been two days of laddering since I saw you guys last and now I am up to 42 wins on the season (up from 10 when I began). My MMR is steadily rising game by game and so are my mechanics. However I'm encountering different problems than what I expected on ladder! Alas my winrate is getting higher and gold enemies are becoming easier and easier to play against.
But what is making me successful? Honestly there are two things: 1) Production 2) Upgrades
The first allows me to send 30 marines and 2 medivacs in the enemies front door with a drop in his mineral line every minute (plus travel time). The second helps me stand up to counters that are being forced by an entire mineral line evaporating.
Enemies are being contained to two bases while I am free to take 3, 4, and even 5. Once I have production facilities to help me "remax" after trying to poke in a drop in a pretty dense space of AA or knocking on the front door I just try to trade effectively enough so that I can't be killed by a counter or tech switch. Once a drop is safe, I can usually make the win happen with a two pronged attack.
I know, the life of a silver is SOOOOO hard. :/
New Short term goals: Nonstop workers. Period Never get supply blocked. Period Don't let 10 banelings kill 40 marines. Period.
The first two keep me non-stop producing and aware of my resources so I can make my upgrades faster. The last one has cost me a game against zerg and since I am running a lot of bio-play it will only be helpful to get myself to make them ineffective.
Hopefully my laddering today/tonight will contain some more TvT so I can try my drop skills on a mech based army. Haven't seen it yet, but it'll be fun to spread them too thin to do anything effective.

Good Luck! From what little experience I have with various people learning to play SC2, I'd say that you are going to improve a lot in a short period of time. I think your goals are very admirable, but I'd suggest not changing goals until you have all but mastered those skills. I expect to see you on the ladder within a month! (mid-diamond by then if I can figure out PvZ) GL

TY Mordanis. I was low-silver MMR this season due to inactivity (BF3, school, and skyrim). However I have never played this well in a long time. Sheer volume of marines make my life easier haha.
As a reference: This is a new piece to the playing terran: Idra style. Trying to do an update every day to keep me at it, with a new topic every week. Now that I know it makes a new thread every time, I'll be opting to just change the OP.

Good luck improving ! I agree with Mordanis that it seems you've got the right mindset (like very specific goals) to improve quickly. : )
Still, don't beat yourself up too much if you can't quite make constant workers and avoid supply blocks entirely. I'm mid-masters (NA, admittedly ) and I get food capped all the damn time. Its quite shameful but you should be able to get away with it for now. But maybe being super hard on yourself on the basics is the best way to go. ^_^

Here is a fun tid-bit of knowledge:
As a toss/terran, you should aim to be about 20 supply ahead of your current (in the mid-late game). With zerg, you should be about 30 (as you might have to make a huge amount of stuff right away).
If you want to know how to bio against mech, watch MMA v MVP (pure bio v pure mech) or ThorZain v DeMuslim (BioMech v Mech).
Marine splits are hard, all you can do is practise, and not engage on creep.
Feel free to write back for any additional help ^^

Thanks DYEA. I like the support coming from this thread!!
I've been doing a drop/bio build and learning to toy with the opponents game knowledge and decision making. It makes mid-late game vT really fun when he tries to walk siege tanks close to me and then I drop 16 marines on his front door to destroy all of his mining/reinforcement army.
12-5 on the day. All loses from gold/platinum ranked players. Oddly enough I am seeing more cheesy play from 'higher' ranked players. Good that I've been learning to scout properly rather than seeing what he has, seeing what he DOESN'T have.

Please post a replay of you sending 30 marines and a drop at your opponent every 60 seconds. It just sounds too good to be true

GL on improvements sir! As you realize, the key thing is getting the right practice and the correct attitude.

Will do, though on 3-4-5 bases only producing MMM it is easy to get eight reactor barracks always producing. (and iirc, marines take 30 seconds?). Obviously this is a late game situation but...you know. Haha.

I made Gold division! Also due to my ladder points I'm in their top 8. Not that it matters but it is still an ego boost to know that my activity on ladder of recently carries over. I am kind of ashamed I can't work up the ladder over several days because most of the division is inactive. Maybe it'll work when I go to platinum in a few weeks.
Lost 3-straight TvTs to 3-tank pushes/drops (who drops tanks?) which is a relatively new build for me to see in TvT (I usually see turtly mech and whatnot. My drops kept me in a base race and sniping new tanks but eventually lost because 8 marines < 3 tanks, sieged, and defending the last few structures. Then won 1 TvP who tried to proxy two-gate me into charge but a drop of 8 marines cleaned his single mineral line up (as warptech was finishing no less) as well as kill the researching twilight council.
I really need to get used to scouting Terran air pressure! Especially since I use it all the time haa.

If I were you, next time I'd write a teeny bit more and just make a new blog. The way the blog section works, bumping doesnt put it back in the sidebar so its not gonna get too many views. I just kinda stumbled in here somehow.
But again, congrats and good luck !
