I'm in my college networking class and I'm about 3 weeks ahead of where I need to be, so I decided to download Eve Online so I can do some mining while I do my schoolwork.
The installer is downloading a 4GB file at about 150-200 kb/s, and it says it'll take about 4-5 hours. I'm using the majority of my schools bandwidth, and I can hear the people in the business class complaining that Facebook is taking forever to load, and YouTube is stalling and not working.
This is making me smile
Yes, I'm being kind of a jerk right now. Normally I just do my schoolwork and listen to music/browse TL. The majority of the people though just kind of fuck the dog all day on FB/YouTube and I can't explain why, but it irritates me that I'm busting my balls and everyone else just skims by while abusing the fact that these are self-paced classes with minimal supervision.
So, I'm going to hog all the bandwidth today and feel great about it

What kind of crappy internet does your school have? That´s just sad man
|
I'm surprised this isn't a rage blog about your schools slow internet tbh
|
If you're 3 weeks ahead why bother showing up? Just stay home.
|
Yeah it's pretty terrible. This is after an upgrade, too. The administration is just cheap, they can totally afford a better internet connection, they would just rather spend money on aesthetics.

Student Loans requires me to put in 5 hours a day, minimum. If I fall under that, I risk having my loan taken back and then I wouldn't be able to pay for my schooling
|
it's your school's fault. You're actually doing them a favor by helping realize they need better internet.

You don't have to, but care to explain? This is a very unusual set up.

I applied to CDI College to be a full time student. Because I couldn't afford it on my own, I applied for a student loan. The way that the financial advisor explained it to me is that since they (Canada Student Loans [CSL]) are funding my education, they can stipulate minimum requirements for attendance. In a sense, this is a good thing because there are lots of people that will apply for a student loan, get the cash, and then just not go to school.
When CSL pulls your funding, the school doesn't get paid for the courses and therefore you can't attend unless you pay for your tuition out of your own pocket.
Not sure if this explains anything really, but if you have any questions about specifics I can try and answer them.

I'm pretty sure that's against the terms of use.

Lol, talk about crappy internet. At least what little bandwidth exists is being put towards something awesome like EVE!

Just wait until the last week or 3 days of class. They'll all be way behind and you'll be like a senior in high school who gets to laugh at everyone else who still has to do work while they bust it trying to finish with a C.
|
Set aside the crappy internet why doesn't your school have stuff like FB and that shit blocked in the first place lol. Only thing I haven't got blocked at my college is fucking own3d.tv T:T

His first sentence kind of insinuated that he was in college.

Damn that internet blows, even at peak usage times i get 20/20 at school. Come in later at night and its 80-100 Down.
Wait. Colleges block sites?.....My school blocks torrenting stuff for liability i think(not sure never really wanted to risk getting kicked off the internet at school). Other than that almost anything else is free game

Great question. I asked the director this as well, and he says "Because adults shouldn't need to be told how to allocate their time".
...
............
Yeah.

I'm confused. That's entirely correct. This isn't public schooling anymore. You're paying THEM for a service. Why the hell should they place limits on YOU?
|
Well, when you have a shitty internet connection and people are using it for non-school related shit, it affects the rest of the school fairly drastically. The way I'm justifying it to myself right now is that since nobody else is using the internet for school related stuff, I'll make ISK while I learn about network engineering.
