There is already a dwarf fortress thread here
But this is kinda different as everyone who wants to play can, but in a playlist where each person manages the fortress for one year and then passes it on to the next player. It would be kinda like when Something Awful (boatmurdered) did it.
Anyone interested, post here or Pm me, I'll compile a turn list based on first-come-first-served. Of course no guarantee that your turn will come around. Also if your turn comes up and you don't respond (and start your turn) within about two days, in the interest of keeping it going you'll be skipped. If you know you won't be able to do your turn say so and you'll get bumped back a turn or so instead of skipped altogether.
Players + Show Spoiler +
Finally I willing to play with any tileset if some people don't like the ASCII graphics. And if people want to play but don't understand the game theres a tutorial in the thread I posted eariler.

I'm surprised more TL.netters aren't into DF. Obviously, it's not much of a succession game with just 2 people, but I'd love to get involved in one, so sign me up and hopefully more will follow.

I'd be up for this, though it's been a while since I played DF.

my friend plays that but its to confusing for me :O, it was pretty hilarious lol

I would love to play it, I will look into it.
I start to remember the glory days of such awesome games as Moria, Angband and Nethack when I look at Dwarf Fortress.

I'll play if anyone could show me some a guide/walk me through the basics, I love rogues but I hear DF is quite a bit different and a lot more complex

I would actually suggest this one http://afteractionreporter.com/2009/02/09/the-complete-and-utter-newby-tutorial-for-dwarf-fortress-part-1-wtf/ It was posted on the last DwarfFortress thread and it took me from not knowing crap to being able to create elaborate traps, execution chambers, magma falls, etc. (it doesn't show you all that, but it gives you the knowledge to figure it out on your own) Also the tileset they link to and use is a lot easier on the eyes as some might not be able to stand the standard ASCII graphics.
Oh, and I'm totally up for this.
Edit: oh, and are we going to do this like the boatmurdered game where we try to write up a journal of our progress?
|
Ahh I tried to start a game and then managed to flood my fortress
X((((((((((
Oh well...

Oh well... Don't forget, losing is fun!

Well I'm going to give it a try, put me on the list
I'll try the 'complete and utter newby' tutorial, I like how it's written :p

So unless/until we hear from Iankill, I'll keep track of who all is interested, and start up the game if need be. At the moment, we have Lucktar armed_ wonkman Foucault? (you were kinda vague in your post whether you wanted to play this game or not) coldfront Falcynn inertinept
Should we wait for more, or for the OP to respond? Or should we get a game going now? If I left your name off the list, just post here saying you'd like to play. Cheers.

I'd say we can just get started whenever you feel like it If there's more interest we can always just tack them on to the end of the list.
Anyways, any ground rules for this before we start? Such as maximum time to finish your year (2 days? A week? more?), anything we should avoid (is striking adamantium okay, or should we stay away?), or pretty much anything else anyone would like to contribute?
Since I'm 6th in line, I'd actually like having the maximum time as short as possible however I think a week would probably be best. As for adamantium, I'm fine with striking it, but the person should talk about it with the people playing after him if they're okay with it since we don't want people + Show Spoiler +HUGE SPOILER AHEAD + Show Spoiler +(To be honest, I don't think this is that big of a deal, but on the wiki page and at the dwarffortress forums they all treat it as a huge spoiler so beware of this if you choose to click on...) + Show Spoiler +having to deal with an army of demons if they feel they're unprepared for the task, and if they're not it's probably not fair to everyone else further up the list since the fortress will probably fall within a year if they don't know what to do.

Good points, Falcynn. I'd say as far as ground rules, just don't do anything that prevents the fortress from being taken over by your successor, and since we have a fairly good number of newbies, that probably includes adamantium. Large, grandiose projects are encouraged, but if you can't finish what you started, be sure to explain to your successor what your plans are and what is needed to complete things.
Screen shots and creative storytelling are encouraged, since they always make succession games more interesting, but feel free to write as little or as much as you like. I'd recommend against having any set time limits at least for now, provided that whoever is playing keeps people posted on their progress and attempts to get things done in a timely manner.
I'll go ahead and start up a fortress in the next 24 hours or so, so any feedback on what kind of location we want is encouraged. I don't think we should start in any haunted areas or under a goblin fortress or anything like that, but I'm open to pretty much any other suggestions.

Relatively small area, nothing boring like desert or tundra, water. Don't care about anything else.
