Nv.mOOnGLaDe was recently announced as one of the premier players in Blizzards new WCS tournament series, we caught up with him for an interview.

Recently Paladin caught up with Andrew 'mOOnGLaDe' Pender, the current WCS Oceania champion and arguably the best player in the region. The Australian Zerg player from team Nv Gamecom boasts a rich professional gaming history, having already proved himself as one of the best in his region for Warcraft III, one of Starcraft 2's big brother titles.


Paladin: So HoTS has been out for nearly a month now. What is the most noticeable difference for you?
Nv.mOOnGLaDe: I'd say the most noticeable difference is that it feels very refreshing and interesting again, WoL was getting very stale towards the end. Next most noticeable things would have to be widow mines and voidrays .

On that, do you consider the game balanced?
Currently I think there’s a couple of things that need balancing, which are quite obvious when watching pro games. Such as skytoss (mass void / tempest with high templar) which seems unbeatable by just about any zerg army resulting in doing a fairly boring style of massing static defences and waiting behind them with your army, as well as I think a change needs to be made to widow mines as their cost is too cheap and damage is just too great.

Do you think Blizzard will get there? Or was WoL still unbalanced before HoTS release?
I definitely think Blizz will get there, it will need a lot of time but it will happen. The end of WoL Zerg seemed the strongest, but the other races weren't miles behind or anything, it was getting pretty close which I think is a great job for only 2 years of play.

So have you enjoyed HoTS more than you did WoL, or is it too early?
It's taken a lot of getting used to, going from feeling like the strongest race into dealing with these really powerful changes for the other races but i'm really happy HoTs is out and im having a lot more fun than I was for the last 6 months of WoL.

Will be interesting to see how he performs in WCS Premier. I think he has a better chance than some of the other invites, but the latency issues will be difficult to deal with I believe.

Only saying what troubles his own race.

In truth the only imba things are: widow mines - infinite charges for that price are so wrong - 1 charge is ok for the price
voidrays charge - too damn powerful, needs some tweaks so that corruptors vs vray battles are closer. Also the PvP is very broken too. Any stargate opening is too safe because of vrays.
mutas hp regen - makes any non-phoenix response, pointless. But also ZvZ is also pretty dumb like that.
medivac speed - just... bullshit. No drawbacks for the terran.
and last but most important - swarm host. This thing is soooo powerful that only the cluelessness of the newcoming zergs is keeping the meta from shifting into mass swarm hosts abuse. After the locusts upg, they become ridiculously strong that no matter what number of colossi you get, they still kill at least 2-3 of your units. ( in each locust wave)
They need someo redesing so they can be useful, yet not OP.

Did you just call moonglade a patch zerg O_O Dafuq son? Also, i disagree, i dont think Swarm Host are strong. They are momentum unit and you need A LOT of momentum to make them work and they are a HUGE commitment. And if you get colossus/voidray with good ff the SH will be demolished.

Swarmhosts are super good vs colossi/voidray. Honestly more zergs just need to figure it out but swarmhosts are very strong in zvp trust me

On the interview, I found sad to see (imo) such level of unbias when talking about both WoL and current balance. Other than that was a interesting interview. Also, sad to read him saying that he may retire from Sc2 in not a long time(not said textually).

I was pretty upset that I was unable to see any of his games today during the ACLSC2PRO tournament in Sydney. I realize he was taken out pretty early during the semi-finals, but I would liked to have seen those games. Maybe they are trying to shine a spotlight on some other talent that AUS is fostering, and if that's the case then well I really have no complaints, other than 6 out of the 8 finalists being zerg and watching ZVZ all morning

Well he suggested 75 minerals and 25 gas for a mine which shoots once. In BroodWar you had 75 minerals for a good unit and two mines on top of that. -_-
