Round 1 Review

Round 1 of FPL is over and here are our top 10 finishers!

Congratulations especially to our winner, TerrorTerran, who was the first place finisher in 3 out of four weeks for this round with his almost all KT Rolster Team. I sat down with TerrorTerran to get his thoughts on how to succeed in FPL. Maybe his tips will help out for round 2!

Inside the mind of a FPL winner: TerrorTerran's Tips to success!
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Q: Congrats on winning Season 1 Round 1 of SC2 FPL. Can you introduce yourself and your BW/SC2 background?

TerrorTerran: Hello my name is Rodrigo, most known in the BW scene as TerrOr. I am 20 years old and I've been in TL since 2008 if I am not mistaken. I tried SC2 during the beta phase but never spent too much practicing so I stick with BW n.n

Q: So I take it you've played BW FPL before? How did you do there and did you learn anything from that?

TT: Well I played FPL before but never spent too much time on those seasons, never did trades and always stuck with the same team until the end. I even tried the Fantasy GSTL where I failed hard, but I learned that picking Flash always pays off and to keep tracking of which players may do better in the future. That's why I picked some KT players this season like Wooki or Crazy-hydra.

Q: You picked an almost all KT team this round. Was this because you thought all KT players just happened to be undervalued this round or do you think it's always a good strategy to pick an entire team?

TT: I think this round KT players were really undervalued due to their poor showing in the hybrid league where they finished just before Air Force iirc. To be honest, I don't think relying on one team is a good strategy. Even when picking 5 KT players, I knew that at least 1 player would lose or wouldn't be playing. I guess this round I got lucky KT showed a strong performance.

Q: How much did you look at lineups when picking your team and trading? Did the fact that KT faced a weakened EG-TL in the first match affect your decision at all?

TT: When choosing my team, the only player I knew I will pick no matter his cost was Flash as I am a really big fan of him. Then I have to admit after seeing the line ups and that KT was facing EG-TL, I pick my players based on that. I was planning to trade KT after week 1 for Stars but after their 4-0 over EG-TL, I stuck with them and it seems it was the right call. For trading I checked line-ups and that's why I traded Hydra for Shine because Hydra was facing in week 2, Hero and Bogus, if I am not mistaken. I didn't expect him to win any of those and I saw that Shine had some weak opponents so I went for that trade. Later I had to fix my mistake and picked Ryul2.

Q: Round 2 will be an all-kill format. How will you adjust your strategies and team selections based on this format change?

TT: For this round I think picking players from the same team is a bad strategy. The all-kill format gives teams the chance to prepare special snipers against the top players that may be unknown for us, so I think picking key players from different teams who may take 1 or 2 wins per match could be a good strategy. Also trading will be more difficult because we won't be able to see which players are going to play each week, so it will be us guessing which players teams may be sending depending who are they facing, so that will be interesting

Q: I'll let you have a sneak peek at the values for round 2. From a first look at these values, do you see standout player(s) to pick on either the main team or anti-team?

TT: I see Wooki has double his previous value but I really want him on my team. For anti-team I will go with Stephano. I would have picked him since week 1 last round but he was locked. I think if he gets to play he will need time to adapt so maybe he will lose a couple of games before he destroys everyone as many people are saying. [Editor's Note: Stephano will not be in Korea round 1 and cannot be initially picked on your anti-team.

Q: Why do you especially like Wooki? Is it something you saw about him in his play?

TT: I saw all KT games this season and even though I am not an expert in sc2, Wooki gave me the impression to be a very solid player. Despite being a rookie, he is 5-1. I think you could say the same about Stats but he was already a very solid player while Wooki seems to have so much potential.

Q: Cool, do you have any final tips for people playing FPL or anything else you'd like to say?

TT: Well first I want to thank TL for making Proleague so much fun to follow. Also, I am really happy after their announcement about the Legacy Starleague. And for everyone out there playing FPL, have fun and I expect to crush all of you again this round!

Oh, and in case you're wondering, the best possible team without trades:
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

And make sure you check out this little project, which is trying to find the optimal team with trades!

Round 2, Fight

And with that, we conclude round 1. Proleague, of course, gives us no breaks and round 2 will be just right around the corner starting on Saturday 5th. This gives you a little under two days to enter in your teams. Instead of having predetermined match-ups, this round will be bo7 all-kill format, making FPL results even more volatile and perhaps even more fun! After all, there's always a chance for one of your players to strike it big for your team and push to you the top.

>>>>>Sign Up Here!!!<<<<<

Once again, play! It's fun, easy, and makes watching Proleague much more exciting. You don't need to spend any time on managing your team during the season if you don't want to. If you don't fully understand the rules, don't worry. The basic thing to remember is, pick players for your "Main Team" that you think will do well, and pick players for your "Anti Team" who you think will do poorly.

Here are some important facts to know going into Round 2:
  • Week 1 starters and maps here
  • Winners league format(same as GSTL except it's bo7 isntead of bo9)
  • All maps are predetermined; teams won't get to counterpick maps.
  • Round will last from 1/5 to 1/27
  • Matches will be played Saturday-Tues, same as last round.
  • There will be 3 and 1/2 weeks of play(half week is only weekend games).
  • Removed players: Horang2, Sea
  • Added players: BBatta, Demuslim, Major, Revival, sSak
  • Revival will be available to play from match one. You are free to pick him on either your main or anti-team.
  • Stephano will be available to play from week 2 onward. This means that once again, you cannot initially pick Stephano to be on your anti-team. He will be available to trade in week two, however.
  • Demuslim will be available to play from week 3 onward. He will be disabled on the anti-team until right before week 3.
  • No idea about Major, pick at your own risk. You are free to pick him on either your main or anti-team.
  • Make sure you check out the new scoring rules for winners league! Major changes include:
    • Streak Break rules changed
    • No more ace matches, so no more ace match rules
  • Team scoring has changed slightly in order to ensure it's not as possible to dominate just by picking one entire team.(Our version of a balance patch)

How to Play
  • You choose 6 players and 1 Pro Team that score points when they play well.
  • You pick 3 players for your Anti-team as well. They lose you points when they play well.
  • Players and teams can be traded between weeks for those valued less than them.

Team Selection

Main Team
+ Show Spoiler [Click to Show] +
  • Pick 6 players for your Main Team, including a captain who will be a tiebreaker
  • Pick 1 Proleague team (i.e. STX, CJ, SKT, etc.)
  • You cannot trade your captain (more on trading later)
  • Your 6 players and 1 Proleague team cannot exceed 30 points in cost
  • Your Main Team must contain at least one of each race at all times

Anti Team
+ Show Spoiler [Click to Show] +
  • Pick 3 players for your Anti Team
  • These players score points like Main Team players, but their score counts against you
  • Your Anti Team must have a value of at least 13 points (minimum)

Basic Team Selection Strategy
+ Show Spoiler [Click to Show] +
  • Pick players for your Main Team who you believe will exceed their point value from before (underrated or rising players)
  • Pick players for your Anti Team who you believe will do worse than they did previously (overrated or slumping players)
  • Designate as Captain a player who you believe will be a lock to be good throughout the season, because you can't trade him

Trading

Trading Rules
+ Show Spoiler [Click to Show] +
  • Each week you can trade players (swap a player for someone you don't have)
  • Every player has a trade value, and you can only trade for players of lower value
  • You will be limited to a maximum 2 Main Team and 1 Anti Team trades per week
  • Trades do not carry over if unused
  • Each time you trade, your team will be assessed a -1 point trade tax

Basic Trading Strategy
+ Show Spoiler [Click to Show] +
  • Check lineups each week! Players facing weak teams are generally more valuable.
  • Don't make trades just for sake of making trades, as they cost you trade tax points and you may get stuck with a player you don't want
  • The trade price formula takes into account number of matches remaining -- so players with more matches remaining will have higher prices
  • You must trade for players with less value, but try to minimize the value loss. For example, if you trade someone worth 30 for someone worth 20, next week you can only trade the 20 for someone less. It's much better to trade the 30 for someone worth 29.

Groups

You will be able to create and join groups so you can compare your results with a smaller subset of the players, for example there might be a Staff Group, a First Time FPL Group, a USA Players Group, or a group created by you with just your friends.

Good luck, and tell your friends!

A player can get 12 points with a reverse all-kill, seems like a good enough bonus .

Thanks. A mistake cause I copied the example from last round where I had EG-TL win. Thought it was time for KT to win. =P

I'm really really tempted to put a 9+ pointer on my anti team so I can get both huk and idra ( who I think won't play any games, and if they do, lose every one. )

always thought we were carrying our team for every round, i guess having stephano as a long term investment was a really bad idea

I put Effort on my anti team. He's worth an 8. Might be suicide tbh
