Bearing arms is not only a fundamental human right, but it is also a civic duty. The Founding Fathers realized this and even made laws that required all able-bodied citizens to own firearms. They did this not only for personal protection, but also to keep the state in check and to discourage foreign invaders. In more recent times local governments have made it mandatory for all citizens to own guns and fined those who violated the law.
In Vermont a new law has been proposed that will require all non-gun owners to register with the state and face fines. Do you believe that people who refuse to perform their civic duties should be fined?

As a proud owner of two guns and longtime citizen of Texas.
You're fucking nuts if you think this is a good idea.

The appeal to the Founding Fathers is bound to rub everyone the wrong way too. This is a well formulated post, but I think he should have eased in to it a bit more. Lots of people won't take it seriously because he came on too heavy in the beginning. (Trolling advice)
Voted that they should be fined and listed, of course.

I disagree with this. A state shouldn't force someone to buy something that doesn't have a negative externality on others. This is not the same as a state-mandated healthcare purchase.
Guns are a right, not an obligation. It should stay that way.

It's shockingly awful idea at first glance, but honestly it would probably work for Vermont. Of course only enforce over a certain yearly income but with America falling apart in the next 10 years I suggest everyone get armed. Before you freak out and spit your bs let's just decide to wait those years and see if you actually wish you had a gun ~~~~

It was introduced in a state legislature, not passed. Big difference here. There are a number of random crazies scattered throughout state governments as representatives. It only takes one bad apple to introduce it. In Wisconsin we had a legislator suggest arming school teachers a while ago, and he was widely laughed at when he introduced it.

On another note, when are those Chinese going to finish that damn wall. Do they still doubt the Mongols?

I .. guys .. your responses ...
dont tell me this is
uh
real ?

maybe if we had like, orc invasions every day or something. or if there was giant ape people that fucked shit up every full moon.
otherwise... I'm not so sure I want everyone to have guns. I mean, I'm all for more people carrying guns, but forcing people who don't want them (and can't shoot straight) to have them... yeah, we'd all better have eyes in the backs of our heads if that ever happens.

he's trolling he posted same thread on another forum he just joined.

This law makes no sense. They(people being fined) should probably take it to the federal court system to challenge this decision. But if this bill is there to keep the federal government from ever trying to take over the state or town, then I could see this being a good law to have from an anti-tyrannical perspective.
I say its unconstitutional to force such a law, it never said it was mandatory to bare arms. Its your freedom to choose.

Conspiracy theorists would claim that the guns industry would arrange this kind of laws :-)
