Hello and welcome to Random StarLeague!

This tournament will be the opposite of everything you might've grown used to in terms of proper tournaments, Brood War or otherwise.

First and foremost:
THIS TOURNAMENT IS FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS (and for fun ^^).

So what is this "Random" StarLeague? Glad you asked:

In this true League, everything is RANDOM:

The players are RANDOM.
Their races are RANDOM.
Their aliases are RANDOM.

This is but a small sample of the randomness that lies within. Now you may ask, how will this shindig go down? Fear not, amidst the confusion, an answer appears:

This is the first stage of the tournament, the LADDER STAGE.

To sign up for this tournament you must PM THIS ACCOUNT.WITH SOME VARIATION OF "RSL APPLICATION" IN THE TITLE AND YOUR MOST WELL-KNOWN ALIAS IN THE BODY.
DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD SAYING YOU WANT TO PLAY OR YOU WILL BE BANNED FROM COMPETING.
It is fine however for participants and non-participants alike to post in this thread as long as they do not include information about who is participating.

After the Ladder Stage, there will be the Tournament Stage. Preliminary information on the Tournament Stage:

The Tournament Stage will take the top 32 players (by ICCup rating) and put them them into RANDOM groups of 4. Within these groups of 4, the following format will be used:

RANDOM Player 1 <RANDOM ICCup Map> RANDOM Player 2
RANDOM Player 3 <RANDOM ICCup Map> RANDOM Player 4
WINNER 1v2 <RANDOM ICCup Map> WINNER 3v4
LOSER 1v2 <RANDOM ICCup Map> LOSER 3v4
WINNER of Game 3 <RANDOM ICCup Map> WINNER of Game 4

After the Ro32, the winners of each group's Game 3 and Game 5 will be RANDOMLY (T/N: NO SEEDS) pitted against other groups' winners.

The same method for picking opponents will be used all the way until there is but 2 players left in the finals.

The rest of the rules for the Tournament Stage will be revealed before the Tournament Stage is due to begin.

Games in the Ro32 and up WILL BE CASTED. The casters are TBD.

So amidst all this randomness, you may ask yourself: "Where is the law and order that I've grown accustomed to? How can we remain sane under such conditions? Where are the RULES?"

ALL PLAYERS MUST ONLY PLAY OTHER [RSL] PLAYERS IN THE LADDER STAGE!!!
All players must use RANDOM in all of their matches. Compliance with this rule will be judged by SCIENCE, also knows as statistical standard deviation properly scaled to one's game count. More details on this rule can be found in this post: On random
Players can agree to reveal their races at the start of the game or not, both are perfectly legal. If Player 1 wants to shout and Player 2 wants to scout, there is no necessity of Player 2 to reveal their race.
Dodging is NOT allowed. If you see someone dodging, please take a screen shot and send it to me.
Clarification: If you play one game with the opponent that day, declining further games is NOT dodging. More details on this rule can be found in this post: On dodging
The Ladder Stage will begin on Saturday 15th, 0:00 KST, and end on a (probably) randomly-generated date at some point in the future that will be revealed at LEAST 1 week before its termination. The Tournament Stage will follow soon after. Any games played outside of this range will be counted as requests for withdrawal from the league.
There can be no revealing in any way, shape, or form of smurfs by any party, both the smurf involved or by an outside detective. Any such activity will result in you being BANNED from the tourney and I will bookmark the incident and use it as evidence to forever stain your name in BW, making sure that I do my best in order to prevent you from participating in anything ever again, ever. Yes, this means that SMURFING IS A REQUIREMENT.
Similarly, if you are aware of anyone violating any of these rules and do not inform the organizer, you will also be banned.
There can be no giving of free wins, intentional losses, or other such nonsense.
Consequently, match lists will be scrutinized in order to determine who is in violation of the above rules. There is a limit of 650 points WON vs. any player on any given day. However...
Replays may be asked for prematurely in cases that require further examination (such as conspicuous cheating and point donating.)
Another consequence of the nature of this ladder is that THERE MAY BE NO RESETTING OF POINTS.
All ICCup maps are allowed. If it gets you points on ICCup, it's valid.
All players must agree to send their replays in at the end of the ladder stage in order to participate in the Ro32 if they are eligible.
All players must ABSTAIN FROM WHINING at any point in this tournament, for fear of being banned.
However, BM is allowed. Any BM. No disconnecting intentionally though, that's lame.
The smurfs of all players will be revealed at AN [INTENTIONALLY] UNDISCLOSED POINT IN THE TOURNAMENT.
Rules are subject to change based on harsh reality or whim of the administrator, me.
All players must recommend this tournament to their friends and peers.

The prizepool will include a minimum of $100 supplied by TL user and admin of this tournament, Jealous. The prizepool division for the winners will be discussed closer to the time of the finals.

The first day of registration is over and we currently have 17 confirmed players and 2 applicants that require further information in order to be eligible (you know who you are!). Just 6 more days to go! I'm very excited and look forward to more applicants as well as more suggestions for this league. Because this league isn't super-duper serious and is RANDOM, I think it's okay to be flexible in matters that could benefit the league.

That being said, this is one thing I wanted to spring on you all by surprise (somewhat; it's mentioned in the OP), but I think it might be better if I get your input first. At least once a week during the ladder stage there will be a random event. The random event will work like this: I will have a few options number 1 through X, and then I will randomly generate a number and that event will occur. Instead of forcing them upon you and suffering the chance that they might be universally hated (although that might put a dark twist on this league haha xD), I will let you vote and make suggestions!

** = Please consider the fact that having too many super-strong events could alter the league too much, and that having weaker events dilutes the chances of the stronger ones occurring, making them more special!!

As today is the first day of the Ladder Stage, I have randomly decided to make the day upon which this first random event occurs to be non-random, in other words, today. [PS: You have no idea how hard it is to structure sentences with so much randomness x_x]

Today's randomly generated event is 3, the Poll Event (would have been random removal of points, good thing we snipped that in the bud!). For this first event, I would like you to all choose what your favorite randomly generated alias is! I find etymology and words to be very interesting, and I am also interested in what words appeal to people. It can be the most badass, the silliest, or the most random one; whichever is your favorite! There will be two polls, and then the top 2-3 names of each poll will be put in one poll later, with the winning name receiving a full etymology and definition.

Vibrator

Definition

Etymology: First used in 1862, it naturally meant "that which vibrates," and conveniently originates from the Latin verb "vibratile".

In 1888 this word was ascribed to multiple devices (one of which being an oscillator for a sewing machines).

The word first took on a sexual connotation in 1953 when it was associated with battery-operated devices for sexual stimulation. This time period marked a time of post-WWII optimism, which in turn led to the liberal "hippie" movement of the 60's. This invention was very controversial at the time but its presence was also a sign of the changing times.

Mustachio

Definition: a mustache.

Etymology: Most sources point to the mid-16th century as the time of origin for this variant of the word, originating in Spain. Before Spain, the previous carriers of the word being Italian (mostaccio), although all of these words are derivative of the Doric Greek (time period) word "mystax". The root of this word is "mystak-" which means upper lip or, as you may have guessed, mustache.

Temptress

Definition: a woman who tempts, entices, or allures.

Etymology: The word is commonly cited to have been first used in the late 16th century in England. Its immediate predecessor is "tempter" which when capitalized was a common alias for Satan. This word came into use somewere in the 14th century, which gained favor over the Middle English "temptour". As with many words, it was originally a Latin word, "temptator" (although its roots originate from the time when Latin was already in its decline).

Viscount

Definition: a nobleman, immediately under an earl or count and immediately above a baron. Commonly took the roll of sheriff.

Etymology: First used in the latter half of the 15th century, as the feudal system began to expand in response to the increasing population of post-plague Europe. With the rising need for lesser servants of the various kingdoms to do their lord's bidding onto a growing populace, the title of "Viscount" was created as an additional non-royal class. Its roots lie in French's "visconte" (or more recently, "vicomte"), which again is preceded by Latin's prefix "vis" (vice) + "counte" (count).

The time has come, everyone! Today is the day of the first official [RSL] tournament! Because it is on short notice that this tournament is being posted, I have accounted for only 8 player slots, so sign up soon! I don't think I should have to say this, but all players must play random for the duration of this tournament.

There were check-in/ICCup issues so this tour was run manually.
Tournament begins at 06:00 KST. That is 21:00 GMT (+00:00) locally for you.

Today's random event is "12. Random player revealed no alias." What this means is that I will be revealing that a certain player is participating in the tournament, but not what their AKA is.

The implications of this event are as follows:

The player's participation is revealed (obviously xD)
That player can post freely in the thread without worrying about revealing his participation (but he should still be aware of the other rules, such as not revealing his AKA)
Any other player whose participation is revealed can guess about his AKA (so no one yet), and he can guess about AKAs of other players publicly.

I'm very excited about this caster being potentially available to cast games during the tournament. He has a high-energy approach to casting, with a great mastery of the English language and clean enunciation, with occasional funny konglish-sounding pronounciations like 'plaguuuuuu' and 'probu'. casters should be random, better yet at any point in any random cast you can randomly swap out a caster for another random caster.

haha this would be awesome (random caster part), i think swapping mid cast would be fairly impossible

Clarification: If you play one game with the opponent that day, declining further games is NOT dodging.

How will you be able to distinguish between dodging and simply having no time to play? If someone in this league writes "Hey guy wanna play?" so you have to reply "Hey dear Sir. I am sincerly sorry that I cannot apply to your wish to play. It is impossible for me to play now since I have other obligations. This obligations include [insert any reasoning]."? to not get banned?

It is just not possible to tell if someone is dodging or if he actually has no time.

Obviously I'm not going to kick people out for having jobs or going to sleep. It's also not like it'd be an instaban from the league either, probably warning then (random) point deduction THEN something more serious. In such cases the best way to check if it's sincere or not is if they log off/go inactive shortly after - evidence to the contrary (screenshots of /whois of them in a different game, or them chatting for an extended period of time after, something along those lines) that would have to be provided for a complaint to hold water.

However, I expect this rule to enforce self-policing; I don't expect many complaints to come in. I don't expect people to dodge in a fun league and I don't expect people to log on just to chat/not play. I put the rule in so that it's written that dodging is frowned upon by the organizer, so that if there were any players with a desire to do so, there would be a way of handling it.

Postponements are also encouraged ("hey wanna play?" "no sorry I just finished a game and gotta go, how about next time?" = NOT a dodge).

I seriously do not understand!!! all kinds tours(D rank, C ranks, zvz pvp tvt, bwmn Which suddenly occurred to me) My question is why? more people to watch?(no) (I do not think) Slowly we get to the point that it is not here a good tour. T.T

UPDATE TO RULES:
Added the following rule:

Players can agree to reveal their races at the start of the game or not, both are perfectly legal. If Player 1 wants to shout and Player 2 wants to scout, there is no necessity of Player 2 to reveal their race.
